Goodfight’s Florida Room packs all the sunshine-y goodness you’d imagine for an album with that title. The indie pop group’s latest effort is 8 tracks of upbeat tunes that manage to be fun, sweet, and earnest, but never saccharine. Human People become vampires in new video
Human People’s Haley Livingston has a growl to her voice, something a little sinister. In the band’s latest video for new single “Radiator Water” the truth is revealed: she’s a vampire. In less than two and a half minutes she sucks the life out of two of her bandmates, turning them from goth to prep before a final brunchtime faceoff. Following two strong EPs introducing the band, “Radiator Water” marks Human People’s return with a quick cut of spirited garage punk. It’s the first track from the group’s upcoming album, though no title or release date has been announced yet. Check out the video below. – Cameron Carr
Cale and the Gravity Well release EP “Creation Myths”, play PIANOS on 12.11
Hearken back to the already long-gone days of mid-2000s alt-rock with the new EP from Cale and the Gravity Well, Creation Myths. With eclectic instrumentation that sounds like the synth-tinged soft jams of Yeasayer or the Magnetic Fields, the five tracks of the EP showcase the production of Modest Mouse’s Jim Fairchild, as well as the knowledge of Sun Kil Moon engineer Mike Cresswell. Cale and the Gravity Well strike a balance between thunderous rock and soothing indie dream pop, especially on the track "Zambia", which you can stream below. The band’s toured throughout the fall to promote Creation Myths; they’ll play their final show of the tour on December 11th at PIANOS in the Lower East Side. – Will Sisskind
Alt-folker Seldomo drops new release, “Probably Cool”
"When things seem hard Seldomo is there to remind you that things are probably cool and you’ll be alright." So reads the blurb from Seldomo’s Bandcamp page, and man, if there’s something that we need to hear at the end of 2017, it’s that even when it seems like the world is crashing down, in all likelihood, in the end, we can still find a way to make (most) things work. Alt-folk artist, Seldomo, aims to express just that sentiment in his latest album, Probably Cool. The release is no-fuss folk-inspired music that at times can feel lax in its execution, but perhaps that’s one of the things that makes it so charming. Check out "Probably Cool" streaming below. – Olivia Sisinni
Quicksilver Daydream releases hazy psych track “Ferryman”
It’s hard to listen to Quicksilver Daydream‘s latest single, "Ferryman," and not feel as if you’re transported to the River Styx, slowly gliding along dark waters. The Brooklyn-based psych-rocker’s new song is dreamy and deliberate; slow instruments punctuated by drawling, echoing vocals. Listen to "Ferryman" streaming below. – Olivia Sisinni
Pop-Punk band The Steward Dolly drops new EP
Ain’t No Gas Station Gon Sell You City Boys No Grenadine can really only be the title of a pop punk record, one in which NJ’s The Steward Dolly deliver upbeat, fuzz propelled tunes. The 5 tracks that make up the album invite a certain sense of doggednesss instead of typical pop-punk angst, for a more mature take on the genre, but make no mistake–the EP still have all of the infectiously catchy trappings you’d expect. Brother Roy releases piano soul-rock debut LP “Last Man Standing”
With a gruff voice that delivers storybook lyrics in the spirit of James Taylor and heavy piano-based arrangements that smack of Seventies songwriting greats like Elton or Billy, Brother Roy unleashes his debut LP Last Man Standing. Filled with soul and inspired by jazz and classical composers, the tracks on the album flow from driving rockers such as "Heartbreaker" to orchestral crooners such as "Sunshine Lady". Brother Roy has already released a few music videos from Last Man Standing, the latest being a B-movie clipshow set to the head-bopper "Brother Sam." Check it out below and don’t miss the record release "extravaganza" at Rockwood Music Hall on December 10th. – Will Sisskind
Hnry Flwr drops new video for “As Above, So Below”
Hnry Flwr is back with a new video for his track "As Above, So Below." With his signature spidery makeup framing his poker-face vocal delivery, Hnry Flwr traverses multiple outdoor landscapes before cutting to footage of deer, altars and other heavily allegorical imagery that the song’s title may imply. The result is a dark, challenging clip that’s well worth multiple watches. Check out the video streaming below.-Olivia Sisinni
Haunting new dream folk project Panteon drops video for “White Jaguar”
Panteon (aka Yvonne Ambree) writes soft, haunting indie folk tunes that linger long after the music stops. Her new EP, Travel Log 1, (out January 19th) documents her world travels through music. In anticipation of the release, the Brooklyn-based artist has dropped a video for single "White Jaguar." The video showcases dream-like visuals that compliment the haziness of Panteon’s music, and keeping in theme with the EP, the song was developed after a visit to Columbia’s Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta–offering an impressionistic view of the indigenous KOGI peoples. Stream White Jaguar below, and check out Panteon at Rockwood Music Hall 1/28.-Olivia Sisinni
ZEBEDEE take their berserk garage rock to Pianos on 11/25
ZEBEDEE, the project of Australian transplant Zebedee Row, serves up crunchy, saxed-up garage rock that seems to dangerously flirt with the edge of madness. Their songs are rollicking romps through 70s-era rock ‘n’ roll, without ever feeling canned or over baked. Check out the band at Pianos 11/25 and stream them below.-Olivia Sisinni
Stuyedeyed drops new single and plays Brooklyn Bazaar 12/17
We’ve covered Brooklyn-based garage/psych quartet, Stuyedeyed, before on the Deli, but the band keeps churning out new music to keep us excited. Their latest? A track called "Believer" off a recent split with fellow Brooklynites Birds. The song features the band’s signature brand of bluesy psych rock, with vocals that seems to edge closer and closer to an inevitable freakout. The accompanying video is a visual treat–a kaleidoscopic display that manages to be fun instead of tropey, with it’s light-hearted, tongue-in-cheek approach. Check out "Believer" streaming below and catch the band live at Brooklyn Bazaar 12/17.-Olivia Sisinni
Revival rockers Stone Giant play Communion showcase at Rockwood on 12.05
Brooklyn-based rockers Stone Giant make you question what decade you’re in. With their late ’60s/early ’70s swagger, hippie hair, and Sebastian Fernandez’s crunch-tastic vocals, you’d think Led Zeppelin and Soundgarden finally had a baby. They enjoy a healthy following in South America, having toured extensively in Brazil and Argentina, but they remain underappreciated in the New York scene. If you attend one of their live shows, you’ll feel their infectious energy and probably also see a few die-hard fans rolling in the mud Woodstock-style. Or maybe that will be just an hallucination caused by the non exactly legal substances floating in the air… The group will be performing at the upcoming Communion residency at Rockwood Music Hall – old style rockers shouldn’t miss it! – Meghan Rose
