Nicky Egan releases sophomore album ‘The 45 Homestead Project’

Posted on:

Soul crooner Nicky Egan’s sophomore full length release ‘The 45 Homestead Project,’ brings the singer even closer to the kind of sultry journeys she began exorcising on her last album. With a kind of Reba McEntire drawl, and an honest intimacy ready to lick any wound, new single ‘Left Unsaid’ comes on like a torch song tell-all. Set in the most sensual of hotel rooms (and its implied potential for sexy things to happen, as if in a separate world) the single’s video needs to be seen to be best appreciated. Check it out below and find our if Egan can recreate that magic atmosphere next time she plays live in NYC (dates here). – Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets)

Stream: Tic Tic Boom! “These Motions”

Posted on:

Unabashedly flaunting the striking synths of the eighties, Tic Tic Boom!, are bringing some life to the party with "These Motions". The duo of real-life couple Mike DeLay and Leilani Francisco illuminate the dance floor with sprightly, pulsing beats and jovial choruses, and they’re intent on making sure that no one leaves the night with a frown. They’re just about to release Their 4th EP It’s the Heart That’s a Fool on October 8, which should make any house gathering playlist all the more colorful.

Slushy

Posted on:

It seems to be the season of Slushy. Just last month they released the much praised debut 7" "Candy" via the local Randy Records, and this week are releasing their new tape "Five Little Leaves" (Tripp Tapes).

The duo of Chris Kramer and Brent Zmrhal have building a fan base with their fuzzed out DIY indie punk sound over the last year and have two solid offerings to enjoy this fall.

From The NYC submissions: Hannah & Maggie play Fat Baby on 10.09

Posted on:

The blue-eyed soul of folk-country duo Hannah & Maggie has as clear a vision for their sound as anything we’ve come across yet in New York’s unplugged circuit. Taking cues from the soft soul of Simon & Garfunkel, coupled with the ‘countrier’ moments of The Indigo Girls, these two singer-songwriters blend their voices together in a harmonious upshot to all things we can still admirably claim to love about America. From last record ‘Muscle & Bone’ comes the short stories found in the steel string dance of ‘Burlington, VT,’ or the softly lilting poetry dedicated to their friend in ‘Sara.’ Catch these ladies when they come around to Fat Baby to play on Wed, Oct 9th at 11pm. – Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets)

Posted on:

After releasing a full-length album, Something Wild (Salinas), this past summer, Radiator Hospital is already back with a new EP entitled MALL OF AMERICA. The four originals and two covers were recorded this summer and early autumn in Sam Cook-Parrott’s bedroom. Here’s his lovely rendition of Sacred Strays’ "Detroit Diamonds."

Misay Day Birthday Bash Show w/ Michael Kiwanuka @ Parish Underground, 10/4/13

Posted on:

Misay Day‘s Kate Robberson is turning another year older and celebrating with quite a few musician friends at Parish Underground on October 4th, 2013. Sharing the stage will be Michael Kiwanuka, Chave Do Mar and Attic Ted. It’s a special lineup for a special singer songwriter that we featured a few months back.

Like so many other bands, Misay Day has recently undergone some changes. But unlike a lot of bands, they pulled through the tough times and got back onstage as soon as they could to prevent losing momentum. In case you missed our first write up, here’s a sample of their sweet and simply lovable folk music. –Written by Charise Sowells

Mary Lattimore and Jeff Zeigler Opening for Ed Askew at PhilaMOCA Sept. 29

Posted on:
The skillset and indie street cred of a team like Mary Lattimore and Jeff Zeigler scores pretty high if one were to keep it. Together, they instinctively play off each other’s plucks and drones weaving them into otherworldly soundscapes while rendering audiences silent and captivated, already strapped in to accompany them on their journey. For fans of avant-garde ambient drone, the wait for their debut release will probably be too long. However, until then, I am sure that you’ll find them as the go-to support act on interesting bills such as the one tonight at PhilaMOCA opening psych-folk vet Ed Askew’s record release show. After all, no show is ever really the same with the improvising duo. Also on the lineup will be one half of The Baird Sisters, Laura Baird. PhilaMOCA, 531 N. 12th St., 8pm, $7 – $10 Donation, All Ages – Alexis V.
