Song Premiere: “Fire in the Sky” – OhBree

Posted on:

“Fire in the Sky” a cut off OhBree’s latest album Death By Broomstick (Due out April 15th) is a vibrantly intriguing, yet twisted tune. It begins with an eerily menacing spattering of percussion, and gloomy guitar with additional dramatic touches of ticking-clock piano. Bright bursts of trumpet cut through the forceful chant-like vocals, which retain a positive feeling despite the song’s grim/ tormented overall aesthetic. Throw in an explosive guitar solo and “Fire in the Sky” may creep its way into your head. Check out the exclusive track below. (Photo by Matthew Raspanti)

Avers release new album Empty Light

Posted on:

Avers morphs spacey guitar riffs and distant vocals into a surreal listening experience in their debut album Empty Light. The second half of the album continues the repetitive rock backbeat displayed in the beginning, continuing to add percussion to a more vocally centered, almost pop-like sound. Heavy guitar keeps Avers well within the rock range, as vivid overtones bring a mind-expanding taste to the heavily psychedelic album. You can get a copy of the album when you see them live at the Black Cat Backstage on April 23rd. –Hannah Brady

Dead Heart Bloom releases 3rd EP in a year

Posted on:

A series of recent EP releases by Dead Heart Bloom sees the New York City band expanding their sonic palette. Founding members Boris Skalsky and Paul Wood enlisted the recording services of Mercury Rev bassist Anthony Molina to produce three EPs over the last year. The most recent release “So It Goes,” showcases a shimmering ambiance proper of quality recordings, and leads off with the track “Broken Babylon” (streaming and free for download) which moves with a pace and sensation of flowing waves. Deliberate snare drum roll punctuation echo the style of Colm Ó Cíosóig in My Bloody Valentine, while guitars ultimately launch off into the stratosphere like a NASA space shot. Although the dense layers of keyboards and effects-heavy vocals fill the entire sonic field, every bit is audible and never feels crowded, making for a pure headphone/headtrip listing experience. The band is currently on tour, playing select shows around the east coast. – Dave Cromwell

Aaron Lee Tasjan EP Release Show at The Stone Fox 4.2.14

Posted on:

Aaron Lee Tasjan is holding a release party for his most recent EP, “Crooked River Burning”at the Stone Fox this Wednesday, April 2nd. Dropped March 25th, the EP swiftly climbed the Itunes Singer/Songwriter charts straight to the #1 slot. “Don’t Walk Away” is the first track off the album, and damned if some spots don’t hit with the same misty sentimentalism as a Loggins and Messina tune, while other parts maintain a Steve Earle sneer. Tasjan’s reputation as a ferociously clever musician is widely known, recently honored by ASCAP as one of America’s great songwriters of the next generation. He’s paid a lifetime of dues in touring and performing, and his guitar-picking, toe-tapping, open-hearted folk rock shows only growth. Tim Easton and Courtney Jaye join the bill Wednesday evening; the show starts at 9 and cover is $7. –Terra James-Jura
