Gardener

Posted on:

It’s getting harder and harder find someone who hasn’t at least heard about noise-rock band Gardener. From house shows to dive bars to PDX Pop Now, the band has found themselves on more than a few lineups. Most recently, they joined Nick Normal for a fall tour of the (mostly) West Coast. While their Bandcamp only has one song, “Self Rapture,” it’s uniquely polished and layered. The vocals are surprisingly gentle, even for a psychedelic song. They float smoothly over the high-wired electronic chords. Hints of gospel inspirations dance in and out of the song. The guitar solos are phenomenal, wonderful explosions reminiscent of rock legends such as Queen. The song pays homage to early psychedelic-rock acts while also showing us who Gardener is as a band. Make sure you give it a listen below.

Riley Parker releases debut single “Vandalized”

Posted on:

Songwriter Riley Parker has released a debut single called "Vandalized", the first recorded sample of what the artist’s Facebook page touts as "queer-dreamy indie rock". Imagine a Nashville version of Adult Mom, or perhaps a mellow Laura Stevenson. Parker has played a few shows around Nashville over the past year, and has even gone down to Atlanta to play Porchfest, which promoted itself as "Georgia’s largest organic free-range crowd-sourced music festival". "Vandalized" is now available on all music streaming sites; take a listen to it below. – Will Sisskind

New Track: “Saddle Soap RMX II” (Feat. Da Buze Bruvaz) – Buddy Leezle

Originally found on 2014’s Bishop, another remix of Buddy Leezle‘s "Saddle Soap" (featuring Da Buze Bruvaz) is out now. Produced by TCOR (The Custodian of Records), the alternative take stews under the streetlight before jumping off. Splicing operatic vocals amid the aggressive yet composed lyrical flow gives the track a timeless appeal.

Fat Heaven release “Crybaby” EP, plays secret show on 11.16

Posted on:

Punk rock has taken on a number of forms since it’s emergence in the late 70’s. While some artists have celebrated its more abrasive aspects, many others embraced the speed and energy while adding melodic elements to it. Brooklyn’s Fat Heaven‘s new two-minute-long single “Crybaby”, with its aggressive and punchy power trio sound, clearly falls within the genre, with the band’s penchant for catchy vocal melodies placing them closer to poppier acts like Jimmy Eat World and Green Day. That said, there’s certainly enough edge on “Crybaby” to fuel a mosh pit.  The band’s lyrics, included on each of the four videos linked to the EP’s tracks, indicate thought behind the rhymes. “Suburban Nightmare” doubles-down on that approach with a high-powered lament on the working life. “Never Needed You” provides the perfect break-up song for those who’ve been in (and then out of) a relationship. Final cut “Fashionista” adds a 50’s feel to the progression while calling out style appropriation when it’s merely a pose. The band is promoting a live show on 11/16 at a “secret location” (DM them for address). – Dave Cromwell

New Music Video: “I Found a Woman” – Scotty

Posted on:

A new video for “I Found a Woman,” featured on Scotty’s latest EP Goodbye, has emerged. Palm trees and gently pulsating, vibrant colors mirror the song’s laidback aesthetic. Animated lips mouthing the lyrics and the injection of various strange cartoon characters completes the eccentric set of imagery. It’s just the right amount of odd to help brighten your day. Ha…maybe.

Stewards of Shoegaze, Blushing, Release “The Truth” In Advance of Debut Album

Posted on:

Momentum is the elusive ingredient that local Austin bands crave going into a new release or kicking off a new tour. Thankfully that crucial element is directly correlated to the amount of effort put forth, and local shoegaze quartet, Blushing, are generating awareness with a slew of live shows on a variety of stages. The two husband and wife duos have been playing together since 2015, and their chemisty is uniquely cohesive and powerful for obvious reasons. Bassist/vocalist, Christina Carmona, is a classically trained singer who elevates each track into a celestial soundscape while guitarist/vocalist, Michelle Soto, reverberates an ethereal passion that blends perfectly into each heavenly track. "The Truth" is the first single off of their upcoming debut album, which  is scheduled to be released in early 2019. The single demonstrates a deft mix of distortion, melodic swings and jangled guitars that create a beautiful volute of shoegazed bliss. The female-fronted quartet does not hide in a fugue state of druggy reverb like other shoegazers but, instead opts to slice through the fuzzy pedal effects with dynamic guitar riffs and pounding percussion that proves more epic than meandering. The band’s dedication to getting in as many shows as possible before the new album release gives you the opportunity to see Blushing play with Holy Golden at Hotel Vegas on November 14th or you can catch them at Cheer Up Charlies on December 7th!

Indie-pop newcomers Nobody But You release debut single “Echo Park Bar”

Posted on:

Nobody But You recount a memorable meet cute on "Echo Park Bar." With their mix of R&B and pop, the self-described emo-pop quintet delivers a soulful, good-natured take on the classic bar pickup that strikes a dim-lit mood with its mellow richness. The sultry track does have a jam-like quality despite its songwriting focus, which doesn’t come as a surprise given that singer-songwriter Michael Escañuelas and drummer Ryan Ohanessian first laid the foundation of the band by spending hours perfecting their craft in their practice space.

Gabby’s World unveils new album, plays Elsewhere on 11.15

With digital releases dating as far back as 2008, Gabby’s World has always been a little more than a side project for Eskimaux‘s Gabrielle Smith. But the artist decided to make it her main outlet when the previous band name proved controversial for PC reasonsBeast on Beast is the first full length to come out under the new moniker, but still delivers all the goods Ms. Smith has gotten us accustomed to: her delicate melodies, introspective lyrics, and fragile voice. Single Winter Withdraw, streaming below, feels particularly appropriate at this time of year.
Be ready to catch Gabby’s World live at Zone One on November 15 befor she leaves on a US tour with like-minded Philly artist Yowler.
