The exclamation point at the end of "The Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt!" is there for a reason: the band (recently signed by David Byrne’s Luaka Bop) produces songs fueled with excitement, and choruses that sound like dance-inducing war cries. The song Snowday in particular screams "fun, fun, FUN!" with its fast-fluttering keyboard parts and youthful acclamations of playing in white wintry powder. This song (along with nine others) is part of the band’s upcoming LP bearing the concise and poignant title: “I LOVE YOU! I LOVE YOU! I LOVE YOU AND I’M IN LOVE WITH YOU! HAVE AN AWESOME DAY! HAVE THE BEST DAY OF YOUR LIFE!!” – which could have also simply been called "WE ALL LOVE TO SCREAM!!! AND TO USE EXCLAMATION POINTS!!!. Expect the members of the band to refer to the finer things in life, like cute girls. In the meantime, The Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt! will tour and fly its way around the US starting at the end of February. – Abigail Devora
Hurricane Bells release video + tour… India???
Hurricane Bells is a new project from Steve Schiltz, singer and guitarist of Longwave for nearly ten years. After touring the better part of last year around Longwave’s fourth album Secrets Are Sinister, Schiltz set up shop to create a new project with little else than his MacBook and an Mbox. He wrote, played, recorded and mixed every note himself, arranging what would become Tonight Is The Ghost. Some songs were fully crafted within the past 18 months, while others are newly architected from pieces written throughout his years as a songwriter. Vagrant Records released Tonight Is The Ghost digitally on November 10, 2009. Today the band premiered this new video for their song "Monsters". Currently Hurricane Bells is across the globe finishing a two-week tour in India.
Live Review: The Picture + Tab the Band, Deadbeat Darling and Black Taxi
On January 28, 2010, Black Taxi and Deadbeat Darling (in the picture) sold out the Bowery Ballroom for their second time in eight months, collaborating with TAB the Band, who celebrated their release of “Zoo Noises,” and The Picture, who performed for their final time. Half brothers, all rock ‘n roll, TAB the Band treated the audience to a dozen playful, gritty tunes, including their latest single “She Said No (I Love You).” A photo montage of The Picture, illuminating the venue, set the stage for their delicate, angst-ridden, nostalgic sound. Overwrought with anticipation, the crowd welcomed Black Taxi with non-stop dancing to favorites from “Things of That Nature” and new songs that showcased the band’s consistently masterful songwriting. Frontman Ezra Huleatt’s glockenspiel, decorated with parasol and faux plants, met its demise during a zealous on-stage smashing. Dapper and dynamic, Deadbeat Darling dove into “Weight of Wandering” and unreleased tracks, closing the evening with swirling lights and a “picture perfect” performance. -Meijin Bruttomesso
Let’s Talk About That Dossier, Shearwater
First of all, we never get to use the word ‘dossier’ enough, and in this case, it’s actually news-related: in addition to dropping The Golden Archipelago on 2/23 (out digitally one week earlier), the boys and girls of Shearwater are also unveiling "a limited edition, full-color, 75-page, 8 x 10.5” "Dossier" companion piece to The Golden Archipelago" called, of course, The Golden Dossier. You can check it out at Kickstarter.com. Seventy-five pages! Get comfy. You can also grab the "Black Eyes" track right now from Matador here. There’s a conspicuous SXSW-shaped hole in their touring schedule, but Jonathan Meiburg (member) is slated for Red 7 on March 13th, in support of Xiu Xiu. Now peruse your dossier.
Joe Pug Preorder and New Track
Messenger, the debut full-length from Joe Pug, will be released on February 16th. In preparation Joe just released another track from the album called “The Sharpest Crown”. The track is a somber love story about the struggles we all face. Joe also announced that his debut ep, Nation of Heat, will be re-released on 10" colored vinyl later this month. You can preorder Messenger here and you can catch Joe at Lincoln Hall on Feb. 27th.

Introducing Young Man
Young Man is fantastic project by 20-year-old Chicago based songwriter, Colin Caulfield. With a sound reminiscent to Panda Bear or Deerhunter, Colin seems to keep things simple, yet with the addition of some exceptional layers, giving him some major promise for 2010. A debut "concept" album, Boy, is planned for a spring/summer release. Here’s a lovely demo called, "Just A Growin’," however head on over to his YouTube page to watch some great clips/covers and to grab some mp3s. – Brendan Losch

Band of the Month Nominee Spotlight: Pegasus Dream
Pegasus Dream – Lady Luck from Andy Carlson on Vimeo.
With a guitar and a keyboard, J.T. Lindsey and Andy Carlson make up yet another fantastic electro-pop duo hailing from the fine City of Roses. This one’s called Pegasus Dream, and the name is fitting for the psychedelic, spacey dance tunes produced by this twosome.
Lindsey’s high-pitched croons layered with poppy keyboard riffs and effect pedal-laden guitar chords create a sound much larger than two people, not to mention a sound that makes its listener involuntarily break out in dance.
Though the drum machine saturated, electro beat loving pair has yet to be signed, the boys have had the privilege to perform with such acts as Mew, Hockey, Boy Eats Drum Machine, Japanther, Pyramiddd, and my favorite local electro duo, The Helio Sequence. So they must be doing something right, right?
Pegasus Dream will be playing at The Parlour February 17th before embarking on a small Washington tour with our favorite little arsonists Housefire in March, so mark your calendar! The band’s music video for “Lady Luck,” will give you a good idea of the duo’s sound, but if this isn’t enough, you can download Pegasus Dream’s EP, Miles of Sound, here, and if you dig it, you can give them your vote on our Band of the Month poll.

“Don’t Quit Your Day Job” Features Reporter’s Michael aka Mr. Potato Head
Into the Woods TV has unleashed yet another awesome Portland-based insider anomaly with the first episode in their series "Don’t Quit Your Day Job." The series goes behind the scenes into the working week of PDX rockers and rollers in a candid, often hilarious overview of their careers offstage.
The first episode was uploaded today, and features Mike from ambient-poppers Reporter and his uber-popular Potato Champion french fry cart, located on SE 12th and Hawthorne – one of many fantastic late-night wheeled eateries on the corner.
Also be sure to check out the additional video series’ being produced by the guys from Into the Woods, including the site’s namesake, which documents bands playing intimate performances (where else?) in the woods; "Learning Curve," which are tech-y tutorials led by various Portland musicians; or "Feels Like Home," a series documenting bands playing in their own homes.
And if you haven’t been to Potato Champion yet, you’re doing it wrong.
