Noleac Yahsin Releases New Music Video For “Par.T” Amidst Launch Of New Mixtape

Posted on:

Snippets of red ballons, party-goers, and a cosmic sky splice the images of a sullen girl singing “… she just wanna party” in Noleac Yasin’s latest music video for “Par.T.” DJ and producer, Devyn Symone, says Noleac Yahsin is a joint effort between her and singer/songwriter Caelon Reed. “When I’m creating beats, whatever flows out of [Reed’s] mouth, goes on the track. Whatever we both like.” That’s why the pair choose not categorize themselves into any particular genre. Influenced by Timbaland, James Blake, and Amy Winehouse, the duo create neyo-soul rhythms, interposed by driving trap lines, all under alluring, relaxed vocals in the latest single. “Par.T” tells the story of Reed in the aftermath of a break-up, looking to find peace in others, and finally finding it in herself. “Par.T” can be heard on Noleac Yahsin’s forthcoming mixtape, Maktub, to be released November 11th. For now, get hooked on the indie-esque music video for “Par.T” below. –Sade A. Spence

Sheer Mag Opening for Screaming Females at JB’s Nov. 5

Posted on:

The three-headed lineup this evening at Johnny Brenda’s has been marked on my calendar for quite some time. The show begins with Sheer Mag, whose 7’’ is currently our album of the month and for a good reason; it genuinely rocks! The relatively new Christina Halladay-fronted group packs a decisive punch, filling all four songs with a garage-rock sound littered with saucy guitar riffs. Halladay’s snarly-combative vocals mesh well with a heavier jangly groove, which falls into place and provides a smooth shape to otherwise tough sounding tunes. Exuberant Tennessee garage-rockers Pujol, whose songs hover that threshold where grit and catchy-hooks intermingle, bridge the gap to New Brunswick juggernaut trio Screaming Females, whose live shows are a sight and sound to behold, captivating with all-out sizzling guitar shreds and a relentless hard-charging backbeat that will have the building bouncing tonight. Punk NYC band EndAnd’s new EP “Fun Times with Shitty People”

Posted on:

Gowanus, Brooklyn’s local punk rockers EndAnd (a band we booked for on of our CMJ shows two years ago) have been embracing the NYHC punk sound since 2011 while giving it a softer, more melodic edge – somewhat reminiscent of Nightbirds. The trio’s sound is defined by Daniel Fern’s incredibly thick and raw distorted guitar and  by his powerful pipes. They’ve just released a 6-track EP entitled "Fun Times with Shitty People" that was recorded in just 7 hours to really give it that live, underproduced, fuzzy punk-rock feel – but boy, it’s so tight and explosive you wouldn’t think so. The EP’s intro song ‘Art #1‘ is an unrelenting, tense sonic attack with interesting math moments and a chorus that’s borderline grunge, while second track "Choked On Beer" (streaming) follows a more standard (and fun) punk rock script.  The band currently doesn’t have any tour dates scheduled, but after coming off a recent performance at Skate Brooklyn Skate Shop on 10.4, some are likely to emerge so stay tuned! -Michael Haskoor (@Tweetskoor)

We added this song to The Deli’s playlist of Best NYC songs by emerging NYC artists – check it out!

Weekly Feature: Blow Up Hollywood

Posted on:

I repeatedly struggle to find exactly the right words to describe Blow Up Hollywood, a New York-based rock band with over twelve years of music making under their belt. Emerging in 2002 with a self-titled debut release, they’ve since proven to be unrestricted by genre, their listeners, and the pressures of the music industry. While they admit to finding the business a bit corrupt (as their name suggests), they continue to create in spite of it, equipped with a special kind of persistence that has helped them build a loyal fan base over the years. The band offers Steve Messina’s raw, uninhibited vocals atop sophisticated instrumentals, with each album taking shape entirely independent of the others. – Read Jillian Dooley’s interview with Blow Up Hollywood.

The Deli Presents Roses at Bootleg HiFi

Posted on:

In the simplest terms, Roses can be described as eighties-leaning nostalgics with a penchant for dramatic flourishes that bristle with a somber tone. Their latest EP, Dreamlover, is filled with lush soundscapes reminiscent of The Wake, tempered synth-leaning ballads with textured keyboards that ache as much as they delight. For the entirety of this month, The Deli LA will be presenting their month-long residency every Sunday night. It kicks off this Sunday, November 9th, in which they’ll be joined by Dunes, Michael Vidal, and a DJ set with Bethany Consentino of Best Coast. Stream the upbeat, gleaming pop jam "It’s Over", and head to the Bootleg this Sunday night for a fun-packed night.

Chris Forsyth & The Solar Motel Band Record Release Show at Boot & Saddle Nov. 5

Posted on:
Chris Forsyth & The Solar Motel Band organically formed during the recording of the guitar virtuoso’s last breakthrough album, Solar Motel. Since then, the group has been pushing the boundaries of his compositions in live settings and impressing those who have been fortunate enough to be there when the four-piece merges into one cohesive unit, churning out time-bending psychedelic rock. It’s an experience well worth any exhaustion that you may feel the next morning at work. They’ll be celebrating the release of their latest triumph, Intensity Ghost, this evening at Boot & Saddle where they’ll be joined by cosmic journeyman Marshall Allen and neo-psychedelia outfit The Orange Drop. Boot & Saddle, 1131 S. Broad St., 8:30pm, $12, 21+ – H.M. Kauffman

New Music Video: “Diddle Coaster” (Eric Copeland Remix) – Aunt Dracula

Posted on:

Freak-out psych-pop project Aunt Dracula, a.k.a. Scott Daly, is coming out with a remix LP entitled Peel Face. Here’s "Diddle Coaster," a favorite of his from the collection that was reworked by Black Dice’s Eric Copeland. It also comes with a warped music video, directed by Logan Owlbeemoth featuring "professional mask making for beginners." Aunt Dracula is definitely keeping Philly weird.

Fable Cry, “Fancy Dancing”

Posted on:

File this one under "WTF?" and "YES." The first time we ever heard of Fable Cry was last night at 8 off 8th, when they we caught their set on the homestretch of the night. They set up and tore through their three songs with such gusto and conviction that we turned to our neighbor at the end of the set and said, "This kind of kicks ass." Which is not to say Fable Cry isn’t out there; they look like something Tim Burton coughed up, and sing like the villian’s bit in a vintage Disney movie. The band started out as brother/sister duo Zach and Kirstie Ferrin, and over four years morphed into the minature Trans Siberian Ochestra they are today. Per their behest to that evening’s crowd, we went home and checked out the video for "Fancy Dancing" that they had just released on October 24th. Clocking in at over six minutes and deploying enough ruffles and grease paint to outfit the cast of Sweeney Todd, its a rare glimpse into Fable Cry’s natural habitat. Warning: watching this video might suck you down the rabbit hole of their other material, and you might lose a good chunk of time to the band’s strange theatrics, including a video of a yeti and Poseidon playing chess. Fable Cry: bizarre, but we dig it. -Terra James-Jura
