Alex G, a.k.a. Alexander Giannascoli, just released a new music for the track "Harvey." It’s off his latest LP DSU, and was directed by Colin Acchione. He’ll be bringing his brand of introspective pop to Johnny Brenda’s this Thursday, December 11 opening for Cymbals Eat Guitars.
Caitlin Canty, “Get Up”
Caitlin Canty straddles a few lines: folk and bluegrass, country and rock. She put out "Get Up," a tense, ghostly cross-section of her influences in anticipation of the January 20th release date of her third full-length album "Reckless Skyline." Canty’s history of collaboration has lead her to cull a band comprised of members from Morphine, Booker T, Satellite and Ray Lamontagne’s Pariah Dogs. This team was so white-hot in their chemistry that it took only four days to record. Canty is bottling lightning by taking the same band on the road with her as she tours to support "Reckless Sky." She’s in Europe right now, but returns for a Northeast tour in January, with more dates to be added, hopefully a show in her part-time homebase of Music City is in the works. -Terra James-Jura
From the NYC submissions: Noble Kids’ roots music
Brooklyn is perceived as the home of indie, psych and garage artists, but the community of musicians inspired by the roots of American music is large, and probably bound to expand in the years to come. Noble Kids, whose four-song EP “Kingdom,” released in November of 2013, is deeply rooted in lyrical imagery and compositional intricacy. The record is quite an interesting collection and manages to accomplish much in just four tracks. While opener “Pine” emplyoys dynamic variations on an overall droney atmosphere, “James Gabriel” (streaming) and “Disregard” offer up the simple, crooning heartbreak of true folk songs. All in all, the five members, which recently expanded from the original duo, have come together to create something quite unique, and we are curious to see what else they have coming. Word on the street is they are recording their first full-length as we speak – keep an ear out. – Jillian Dooley

Preview: Sons of Huns at Club 21 on 12.12
Sons of Huns and Glitter Wizard will be conjuring evil spirits on Friday December 12 at Club 21. It might as well be Friday the 13th. Club 21, a local favorite could not be a more fitting venue for an evening of evil stoner metal filled with precision fuzz riffs and high caliber musicianship.
Making their way from San Francisco is Glitter Wizard. Their sound pairs so well with Sons of Huns that I wouldn’t be surprised if they did a split release or toured the Netherlands together. Carrying the torch of 70s heavy metal, Glitter Wizard dip heavy into some dark psych sounds that I recommend for your next spin with a Ouija. Not sure if an acoustic guitar will be riding up from San Francisco with them, but the track from their 2012 release Hunter Gathers, “Sunlit Wolves”, would make it well worth it. It’s a standout track and departure from their self-described “pink metal” that channels from some Forever Changes era Arthur Lee.
Local favorites Sons of Huns need no introduction. Pete Hughes riffs conduct mini dark art symphonies. Here is hoping their track “Rollin’ the Dice” gets put on the next Guitar Hero game and helps pave the wave for a new generation of face melting shredders.

Mystery NYC band catches our ear: Simon Doom
We just stumbled upon this great rock’n’roller entitled "My Baby’s a Baby" by NYC’s Simon Doom, a band we don’t know much about, apart from the fact that they played Glasslands on November 30 with Fort Lean, and that they have a singer with an incredible voice and attitude. Check them out.
We added this song to The Deli’s playlist of Best songs by emerging NYC "punkish" artists – check it out!

Saturday Samurais – Wavey
Remember what it felt like to discover dope hip-hop? The ominous tones this track open with immediately captivate the listener’s attention, leaving us wondering what’s coming next. Featuring dope production by Flying Lotus, Saturday Samurais transform "Wavey" into a smooth, hip-hop masterpiece. With lyrics floating easily over intricately sampled production, we’re introduced to their carefully constructed sound. Their flow reminds me of elements of Mos Def and Q-tip, bringing hip-hop back to a place of story-telling as the song explores the definition of "Wavey" according to Saturday Samurais. Press play and get lost in this cool collaboration. –Opal Rose
New Track: “Out of My Head” – Mike Pays Heat
Mike Pays Heat recently shared a new EP entitled Headspace that is made up of older material from their catalogue. "Out of My Head" is the standout from the three-song release. The band is beginning work on a full-length album that the group feels will be more representative of its sound as of late. The record is being produced by Modern Baseball‘s Ian Farmer.
Brooklyn teenage indie band to keep an ear on: Petalwar
For a band that just came out of high school, Brooklyn’s Petalwar have an incredible potential. They just released their “Purple Faced Winter” split single, and it’s got the emotional backing and tonal versatility of a band in their mid-twenties. The single is apparently PetalWar’s first release as a quartet, having started, and released their S/T EP as just a duo: Alex Ruiz on guitar/vocals, and Abbie Jones on drums. Lena Mandolina and Esme Ashley White joined later on lead guitar and bass, respectively, only adding to what was already a tremendous sound. Not necessarily tremendous in decibel-level (though they can get loud), but tremendous in weight and depth. They play (and play well) a grunge-infused indie rock that teeters between atonal uneasiness at certain times, breaking into roaring upheavals at others, often coupled with a surprising soothing solemnity. – JP Basileo
Free Download: “Someday, Some Morning, Sometime” (Billy Bragg/Wilco/Woody Guthrie Cover) – The Chairman Dances

You can stream and download it for free below. The Chairman Dances are scheduled to record an EP this winter, enlisting the services of Daniel Smith (of Danielson) whom has recorded with mewithoutYou and Sufjan Stevens among others. Show Alert: Switchmen, Hot Action Cop, Asheira and Regulation Nine at Exit/In 12.18
Nothing assuages the stress of impending travel and social obligations of the holidays like some premium rock’n’roll. Which is why The Deli Nashville is happy to be joining Kustom Thrills Tattoo and Bluegrass Hollywood Records as a sponsor for Sad Spaceman Promotions second showcase at Exit/In on December 18th. Quioxtic II’s lineup is a wallop of Nashville talent, with headliners Hot Action Cop supported by Switchmen, Asheira, and Regulation Nine. We’re especially excited for Hot Action Cop, and band that’s built a 10+ year career on their cheeky, hook-y brand of rock. We appreciate a band with longevity, and we’re also glad that, from the looks of their recent video for "House of Pain," Billy Blanks is finding work as a backup dancer. Stay tuned for more information on this night! -Terra James-Jura
Terrorista Purple Tape
Already a collectors item, Terrorista is back with their second release “ROR” Purple Tape in a four cassette single series. This wicked post-post-post punk band rocks us purple with Darren vs Bag and Double Negative. The entire listen is like riding a roller coaster! From the beginning of Darren vs. Bag you are rushed over with the tidal wave of excitement, as if flying down the first drop of a roaring wooden roller coaster, gently coasting into Double Negative, having you screaming the rest of the way. Cant wait for their upcoming release of Blue Tape & Green Tape in the upcoming months.
