Gorgeous Porch Lands at The Fire Jan. 16

What can Gorgeous Porch, a.k.a. Christopher Wood (Grimace Federation, Orbit To Leslie), create with a Casio and some percussion? Well, the answer isn’t quite as simple as the question. It’s universally danceable songs with an omnipresent bobbing percussive beat and vocals that are softly spoken, retaining a sacred air. Sometimes those vocals lay in the back allowing the enthusiastic bounce to set the tone, tempering the friction with its cooling touch affects. However, at other times, the vocals feed off the momentum the instruments establish, steering the ship so to speak. Tonight, that ship lands at The Fire, where it fits nicely on bill that also features the groove-centric electronic experimentations of Willow Talk, taking the familiar and flipping it on its head so you hear it from a new perspective. Then, there’s qqq, whose electro-synth combinations seem to grab hold, leading you through an unlit threshold to a place where the music triggers movement. Brooklyn’s Goste completes a lineup geared to get you on your feet by pushing the envelope. The Fire, 412 W. Girard Ave., 9pm, $8, 21+ (Photo by Bob Cahill) – Michael Colavita
