FREE Music for Headphones Show w/The Vandelles, The Foreign Resort & Last Remaining Pinnacles at Teri’s Diner & Bar Oct. 10

Posted on:

Music for Headphones is working on their debut release for XD Records which is scheduled to be due out in early 2012. But until then, they have a seriously kick-ass FREE show tonight at Teri’s Diner & Bar with The Vandelles, The Foreign Resort, and Last Remaining Pinnacles. You really don’t want to miss any of these bands. BTW: The last time I saw The Vandelles was when they opened for Creepoid at Tritone. They looked a little shell-shocked that evening. It was the classic Creepoid show where they had the drunken punk rock meltdown on stage. Glad to see that my rock ‘n’ roll crush Suzanne “Honey” Pagliorola and the rest of The Vandelles weren’t scared away from Philly! Teri’s Diner & Bar, 1126 S. 9th St., 8pm, 21+ – Q.D. Tran

New Performance Video: Swimmers Ear at KFN & Educational Video on Why You Shouldn’t Get Sooooo Effed Up at a Show

Posted on:

The great thing sometimes about live shows is that you never know what you’ll experience in the moment. Well, below is some video footage of newest Reading Rainbow member Al Creedon shredding it up with his other project Swimmers Ear at the Far-Out Fangtooth Record Release Party on October 1, 2011 at Kung Fu Necktie that we co-presented with YVYNYL. You’ll also see one extremely fucked up female attendee get kicked out, but not before breaking a bass, screaming an apology from stage, and dancing for the crowd. Reading Rainbow also tweeted a little more insight into the spectacle – “u can see her throw the mike into the audience which hit Rachel @sluteverforever ‘s hand & u can he(a)r her yell ‘ow!’ & ‘fuck you bitch!’” Woah – get that gal to rehab! (Special thanks to Tiffany Yoon for sharing the video and Reading Rainbow & Far-Out Fangtooth for bringing it to our attention.) Enjoy! (Photo by Brandee Nichols)

Harsh Vibes Ready to Harsh Your Mellow at KFN Oct. 9

Posted on:

Harsh Vibes mastermind Ragnar Bergan came up with the band’s name when trying to describe to the rest of the group his concept for their sound. It was also the initial title for a song that is now called “Good Times”. Well, the shoegazey acid rock outfit lives up to their name with ferociously noisy guitar licks and static-y synths that could harsh anyone’s mellow. They’ll be opening for psych rock lovers The Tweeds and Dead People at Kung Fu Necktie tonight so get ready to “turn on, tune in, and drop out.” Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 8pm, $5, 21+ – Alexis V.

Get Nostalgic w/The Eeries at Tritone Oct. 8

Posted on:

If you’re like me, you have a love/hate relationship with the fall. Fall weather is a mistress with a split personality: one day you can wear short sleeves and pants, the next you have to bundle up. But you know what always makes me feel better this time of year? Good ol’ ’60s garage-pop throwbacks. That’s where Philly’s The Eeries comes in. There’s something special and cozy about their vintage sweet-tooth melodies that you just want to cuddle up to their sonic nostalgia. And, if you’re free tonight, you can totally do so at Tritone, where they’ll transport you back to a time of free love and mod sounds. Tritone, 1508 South St., 9pm, $7, 21+ – Annamarya Scaccia

Tonight is the night – it’s our 3rd Anniversary Bash, and we’ll be celebrating it at Kung Fu Necktie with Dangerous Ponies, Orbit to Leslie, The Homophones, Power Animal, and Botany! Yes, POWER ANIMAL was added to the lineup to bring even more joy to your life, and he brought along his current tour mate Botany to warp your mind. The Deli’s own Adam G. (XPN2) will also be helping to build the soundtrack for our evening. It’s going to be rad. We know. You should be there. We will be (of course). Fun things are in the works. That’s our plan, and we are sticking to it. Hope to see you sooner than later. Cheers!

BTW: Kung Fu Necktie was nice enough to purchase a postseason package for this evening so we will have the Phillies game on tonight at the show if you were worried!!!

Auctioneer EP Release Show at JB’s Oct. 6

Posted on:

Craig Hendrix, like many Philly music scene vets, has been around. There’s his work with Birdie Busch and Aderbat (and its offspring, Mammal of Paradise), his status as founder & composer of the music-meets-visuals collective The Agave Opera Company, and his position as musical director of the Puppetyranny performance group. He also spearheads Auctioneer, his latest project featuring fellow Mammal of Paradise/Aderbat bandmate Todd Schied, Birdie Busch/Hoots & Hellmouth‘s Todd Erk, and Ladies Auxilary‘s Jesse Moore. The outfit’s self-titled debut EP, which was released digitally in August, is a minimalist dream of indie delight – a sunny day bitterness with elements of art-house world and stripped-down power-pop. Tonight, Auctioneer will celebrate the physical release of the debut, which drops today, at Johnny Brenda’s, along with fellow minimalist weirdo-folk animals Norwegian Arms (who released the EPs Сибирь (Sibir’), and Trimmings of Hides in August and March respectively). In other words: get ready for a night of ironic pleasantness. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 8pm, $10, 21+ – Annamarya Scaccia

Work Drugs & Power Animal Performing at WQHS Fall 2011 Showcase w/Tony Castles & Botany at The Rotunda Oct. 6

Posted on:

WQHS (Penn Student Radio) are ready to kick off what will hopefully be one of many seasonal concerts at The Rotunda tonight. And they have definitely used those Ivy League funds to put together a buzz-worthy lineup to help you forget that the event is dry. Brooklyn’s Tony Castles will be headlining the bill, but Philly’s own Work Drugs may be the one piquing the student body’s interest. The local act will be performing their last all ages show of the year so all our under 21 readers should swing by this evening. You’ll also be treated to another Deli fave Power Animal (a.k.a. Keith Hampson). He’ll be performing as a two-piece for the very first time with biological bro Matt Hampson. (But we are definitely sure that it won’t be last time – nudge, nudge, wink, wink ;o) Breakout Austin musician Spencer Stephenson, who is better known as Botany, is on tour with Keith, and will be opening the shindig. It’s an early show so all the 21+ folks should get nice and toasty at happy hour before you head on over. The Rotunda, 4014 Walnut St., 7pm, $8 adv/$10 door, All Ages – Bill McThrill

New Music Video: “Hondora” – White Birds

Posted on:

Check out the new music video for “Hondora” by White Birds from their debut cassette which was released via Grizzly Records. It premiered yesterday at I Guess I’m Floating blog, and here is a little something that they had to say about the video – “complete with warm and hazy imagery complimenting their drifting melodies oh so well.” Now, we usually enjoy using our own words, but we absolutely agree with their sentiments. Enjoy!
