This Is Jazz Is Not Jazz at KFN Oct. 13

Posted on:

Don’t be fooled by their name, This Is Jazz  is not some wimpy lounge act. The North Philly four-piece plays fast and heavy hardcore with caustic growling vocals compliments of OX conspirator Jorgan Krug. They’ll be bringing their blistering jams to the stage at Kung Fu Necktie tonight alongside fellow local natives Celebrations, What Why Wherewolf and 2 Wheels 1. Be sure to check out This Is Jazz’s debut EP, Warehouse, which was recorded at our beloved defunct DIY space. You can also download it for free HERE. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front Street, $5, 8 pm, 21+ – Dan Brightcliffe

New Performance Video: “At the Formerly British Council Supported English Center” (BITBY – BKSTG) – Norwegian Arms

Posted on:

We’re pretty much urbanites here at The Deli Philly, but the video below of Norwegian Arms performing an unreleased song called “At the Formerly British Council Supported English Center” (wow, say that three times fast) in a tent makes camping actually look more fun. However, we happen to know that it was filmed in a backyard in Philly by our pals at BITBY (Bands in the Backyard). So we guess that really doesn’t count as camping, right? (Photo by Justin Roman)

Giant Mind Opening for Nurses at KFN Oct. 12

Posted on:

This year has been an interesting one for Giant Mind. It started out with the band recording a new EP in Two Frames, and mastering it over at JLM Sound who has worked with the likes of Animal Collective and Dirty Projectors. Shortly afterwards, the band went through some major creative changes by going from a five-piece to a trio. But the remaining members have persevered through the changes and have managed to hone their sound moving in a new direction. Giant Mind will be right in their element at Kung Fu Necktie tonight when they open up for Portland’s Nurses, who are touring in support of their latest album Dracula. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 8pm, $10, 21+ – Bill McThrill

Photo Recap: The Deli Philly’s 3rd Anniversary Bash!!!

Posted on:

This past Friday was The Deli Philly’s 3rd Anniversary Bash at Kung Fu Necktie with Dangerous Ponies, Orbit to Leslie, The Homophones, Power Animal, and Botany. We promised you a rad time, and it was delivered! Though it was a shame that the Phillies couldn’t hold up their end of the bargain, the celebration went on fueled by a little Jameson and cake. Thank you all who participated! We hope that you had as much fun as we did. The lights were low keeping the conspirators in the shadows, but you can check out some of our pics from the evening HERE.

Cuddle Magic Casting Spells at JB’s Oct. 11

Posted on:

Cuddle Magic is on tour, and will be making a pit stop tonight at Johnny Brenda’s. The chamber folk-pop outfit will be filling the stage with a multitude of instruments like a vibraphone, acoustic bass, trumpet, bass clarinet, and many others to blend with their gently flowing vocals creating an elegant sound even more adorable than their band name. They’ll most likely be sharing tunes that will be making an appearance on their upcoming third album Info Nympho that is scheduled for release in early 2012. Joining them this evening will be former New Yorkers now local natives The Powder Kegs and Is And Of The, the project of 20 year old experimental musician Drew Bandos. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N.
