Below is a dark new music video for The War on Drugs’ track “Brothers” off one of our favorite albums last year Slave Ambient. Do you think that she got away? We guess that it depends if you’re an optimist or pessimist. Enjoy!

Learn More About Philly’s Folklore at KFN Jan. 26
With a name like Folklore, you can expect tales to be weaved from lead songwriter Jimmy Hughes. A veteran of the Athens, Georgia music scene where Hughes performed with acts like Elf Power and Vic Chesnutt, he began writing songs under the moniker in 2005 as an outlet for unfinished fiction of connected stories that he had been working on which led to two conceptual albums, 2007’s The Ghost Of H.W. Beaverman and 2008’s Carpenter’s Falls, that blended a mini-orchestra with different vocalist for each song to tell his tale. Hughes moved to Philadelphia in 2009, and managed to regroup and recruit a new cast of players made up of talented musicians from our beloved local music scene. Tonight at Kung Fu Necktie you’ll get a chance to hear what he’s been up to lately when he is joined by the always hauntingly beautiful On the Water and Savannah’s Dare Dukes. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 8pm, $5, 21+ – H.M. Kauffman

Not Just Your Average Streetwalkers at Silk City Jan. 25
If you want to find info about local indie rock outfit Streetwalkers, you might discover a lot more than you bargained for when googling the words “streetwalkers” and “Philadelphia.” But the search would be well worth it for some rad, minimalistically-named tunes like “Song One” and “Song Two.” Honestly, I’m already rather addicted to the handful of tracks that they currently have online. Tonight the young up-and-comers will be bringing those dark, seductive gems to life at Silk City. Streetwalkers will also be joined by Lefft, the side project from Far-Out Fangtooth’s Nick Kulp, and experimental noise act Combine. Silk City, 435 Spring Garden St., 9pm, $6, 21+ – Q.D. Tran

Check out the beautiful short film Small Stories (which is also accompanied by an EP) from Buried Beds. The video (which is 30+ minutes long) was directed by Nate Johnson, and its sound was recorded and mixed by The Spinto Band’s Nick Krill. Enjoy!
New Video: “Cocaine Bill” (BITBY – BKSTG) – Heyward Howkins
We honestly can’t say that we mind this freak weather when it goes in our favor like today. Below is a video from just this past weekend of Heyward Howkins performing “Cocaine Bill” with a snowy backdrop in the BITBY backyard. Don’t take this weather for granted. Go outside. (Photo by Kyle Costill)

Photo Recap: Matt Gallagher’s “Downward Years To Come” w/Creepoid & Nothing at The Level Room
There was a nice turnout this past Friday for Matt Gallagher’s photography exhibit “Downward Years To Come,” which included a crowd of friends, fans and collaborators. Available for purchase were his original photo collages and latest zine entitled Heaven Can’t Get Us as well as free editions of Megawords. Attendees were also treated to a serene acoustic set by Nothing and a rockin’ semi-acoustic performance from Creepoid (ha…no instruments were destroyed – this time). You can check out some of our pics from the enjoyable evening of underground arts colliding HERE.
