Choice/Cuts: Lushlife – “Still I Hear The Word Progress”

Posted on:

We are so proud to share with you The Deli’s latest collaboration with the uber-talented crew at HotBox Studios called Choice/Cuts! It’s our new live in-studio video series that will feature rising artists in a two-part episode performing some of their latest material (and possibly old favorites) as well as talking about their gear and music experiences. We were partly inspired to do Choice/Cuts because of the fact that practically anyone in this day and age can record a performer with their iPhone, smartphone or whatever, and while it is great to have something to remember the moment and share with others, many of the recordings that have flooded the Internet are not really doing the artists and their music justice. We simply just wanted to do something that would showcase their talents in a proper light. We hope that we’ve accomplished that.

The Deli and HotBox Studios are honored that Lushlife, who is such an obviously gifted musician and performer, was nice enough to be part of this little recording experiment of ours. We’ve been big fans of his work for quite some time now, and we hope that if you aren’t already one too, then you will be after viewing the first half of this session where he (in our humble opinion) straight-up destroyed it on “Still I Hear The Word Progress” from his latest way rad album Plateau Vision (Western Vinyl). If you like what you hear and see, then he’ll be performing next in town on July 26 at MilkBoy Philly with THEESatisfaction. They also have a show just before that one on July 23 at Middle East in Boston with the phenomenal Shabazz Palaces. Extra special thanks to HotBox Studios for being awesome dudes and helping to make Choice/Cuts happen the way that we envisioned it! Please contact them if you want to work with a passionate crew of good peeps who know what they are doing. We look forward to sharing more great music, videos, performances, stories and info with you. Much love and respect to all! Cheers!

Lantern Tour Kick-off at KFN July 11

Posted on:

Hide your children because the nasty, evil psych-garage rock of Lantern is back, and the trio will be headlining tonight at Kung Fu Necktie. They recently wrapped up work with producer extraordinaire Jeff Zeigler at Uniform Recording finishing up their first full-length album, and this evening will be the kick-off to a string of shows that will conclude in leading shredder Zachary Fairbrother’s former hometown of Montreal, Canada. (You can check out deets for the dates as well as stay abreast of the new release by hitting up their Tumblr and/or Facebook.) They will also have new drummer in tow. Lantern will be joined this evening by Dong Johnson (consisting of members who perform with Blood Feathers, Ted Leo and The Apostles) and Streetwalkers (who just returned from shows with The Men). Tuesday Tune-Out w/Pet Milk at PhilaMOCA July 10

Posted on:

After taking a break last Tuesday in honor of Independence Day, PhilaMOCA is back with Tuesday Tune-Out tonight. They also have a new curator this month at the helm. Philly-based musician, filmmaker, curator and DIY booker Herbie Shellenberger will be handling the duties for the rest of July. You may be familiar with his work as a guitarist/songwriter for Pet Milk, Brown Recluse (Slumberland Records) and Amateur Party. He has worked at the Ibrahim Theater at International House Philadelphia since 2008, where he curates both film and music programs. He has also booked DIY concerts (with Grace Ambrose) as No Wavelength since 2010, and has been involved in the collectively-run studio/performance space Cha-Cha’Razzi since early 2012. Black Circle Cinema is his new project, where he’ll be curating and presenting film and video screenings in Philadelphia. This evening, Shellenberger will be performing with his noise-pop band Pet Milk, and he has chosen Future Shock, the 1972 Orson Wells narrated/Alexander Grasshoff directed pseudo-documentary film inspired by the book of the same name, for your viewing pleasure. Come tune-out life for the night – you deserve it! PhilaMOCA, 541 N. 12th St., Music at 8pm/Movie at 9pm, $5, All Ages (Photo by Madeleine Lesperance) – Q.D. Tran

Free Download: “Disco Town” – Plumes

Posted on:

Check out this new feel good track to pickup your Monday called “Disco Town” from Plumes! So we honestly don’t know much about this band, but we’ve been jammin’ out to this song for months now. We keep coming back to their Bandcamp profile hoping for more tracks, and googling their name to see if any new info has popped up about them. Alas, the only info that we still have is that they may or may not have an official release coming out December 21, 2012. Oh, and there is another Montreal/NYC chamber pop act that goes by the same name. Hopefully when the presumed release date comes around, we’ll have more music to share with you. Until then, enjoy the free download! BTW: Please feel free to leave any info you might have in the comment section of this post.

Woe Pushing Boundaries at KFN July 9

Posted on:

Woe will be supporting A Life Once Lost tonight for the second round of their July residency at Kung Fu Necktie. The black metal outfit fronted by Chris Griggs is currently working on their second album for Candlelight Records. Griggs’s last post to their website stated: “We have a title, we have quite a bit to say, but we are going to wait a little before saying more because everything is subject to change. What will not change, though, is that we are confident that the new material is our strongest to date, blending the best qualities of the past two albums and pushing the project into some new ground.” Hopefully Woe will share what they’ve been writing and demoing this evening when they push the boundaries of what KFN’s sound system and staff can handle.
