Below is a new live performance video of Buried Beds playing "Stars," the lead single from their forthcoming LP In Spirit, which will be out on September 24 via Devinyl Records. It was recorded for AltarTV. Buried Beds will be celebrating the album’s release on Thursday, October 10 at The Boot & Saddle.
Here’s Waxahatchee, a.k.a. Katie Crutchfield, showing of her tap-dancing skills in a new music video for "Misery Over Dispute." Yeah, you read that right. The black and white video was directed by Joshua Mikel. Waxahatchee will be performing next in Philly on September 29 at the First Unitarian Church with Screaming Females so grab your tix because that’s going to be a rad show.
Check out the new single from gothic psych-punks Far-Out Fangtooth called "Bow Your Head"! It’s off their forthcoming LP Borrowed Time, which will be available on October 29 via Siltbreeze. They’ll be celebrating its release on November 2 at South Philly’s newly re-opened Boot & Saddle. (Photo by Adam Wallacavage)
Tonight Y-Not Radio continues its curation of this month’s Tuesday Tune-Out at PhilaMOCA. On the bill this evening will be the sweet baritone vocals of Univox frontman Josh Jones, and all-female power trio Cayetana, who are signed to Tiny Engines. They’ll be screening a Cher/Nicolas Cage 80’s classic that we’ll keep under wraps for legal reasons. “Snap out of it,” and get on over to the Moz. PhilaMOCA, 531 N. 12th St., 8pm, $5, All Ages – H.M. rjd2 is dropping his new album More Is Than Isn’t on October 8 via his own imprint Electrical Connections. We already shared with you its first single, the heavy guitar-laden "Her Majesty’s Socialist Request," earlier this summer. Now, here’s a smooth, funked-out remix from Candy Panther featuring J-Live, who manages to bring the intensity level back up to match the original. You can download it for free below, well, for the price of your email, but we all should have that outdated junk AOL or Hotmail account that only exists for these types of things. Enjoy!
Toy Soldiers just premiered an upbeat, bluesy new tune called "Forget How It Used to Be" earlier today via Guitar World. Their LP The Maybe Boys officially drops tomorrow, and they’ll be celebrating its release this Friday, September 13 at Johnny Brenda’s.
Kate Faust (formerly of Toy Soldiers) recently shared a mystical music video for the title track to her latest EP Crucial Companion. It contains a choreographed dance routine with Faust and featured dancer Kingsley Ibeneche as the "companion." Its was filmed in her hometown of Denver, PA and directed by Herman Jean-Noel and Tafadza Chiriga of Naglakay Productions. She’ll be performing next in Philly this Saturday, September 14 at MilkBoy Philly with Elegant Animals and former Toy Soldiers bandmate Vichelle Woods. Special thanks to The Key for bringing it to our attention.
The world of EDM continues to grow in popularity, and now, the kids have a new venue in Philly to freak out at with their glow toys and over-the-top club outfits. Starlight Ballrom will be re-opening and reinventing itself as District Nine with a lauch party this Friday featuring a set by DJ Shadow. Expect to see upgrades with lighting and decor in the former roller rink. We’re guessing that it’s about to get even louder and weirder in the Eraserhood.
It’s hard to ignore when two legendary acts like Elvis Costello and Philly’s own The Roots join forces. Born from their collaborative work on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, their forthcoming album Wise Up Ghost is due out on September 17 via Blue Note Records; however, you can stream the reord in its entirety over at NPR’s First Listen.
In honor of the beginning of football season (we really missed ya), here’s the latest music video from STS (a.k.a. Sugar Toungue Slim) where he makes a guest appearance on Joywave’s track "Ray Lewis (Slappers Only)." The video was directed by Kyle "@YungYle" Lloyd, and you can find the song on Joywave’s mixtape 88888 as well as STS’s GOLDRUSH III. Enjoy!
