New Nick Millevoi Split Available for Streaming & Purchase

Posted on:

When it comes to the local avant-garde music community, we can’t think of a harder-working musician, who is making Philly prouder, than guitarist Nick Millevoi. With his mutiple collaborations in the past few years, it’s amazing that he has any time to work on his own material, but he does. Below is his latest solo effort entitled Number on the Side, which was recorded by Eric Carbonara on July 7, 2013 at The Rotunda. It is also being released as a split CD with the band Onibaba via Ivory Antler Records, and Millevoi will be celebrating its release on Saturday, April 26 at Pageant Soloveev Gallery. Also look out for Many Arms‘ second album for John Zorn’s label Tzadik Records, Suspended Definition, scheduled for release on April 29.

The Deli Philly’s Featured Artist(s) Poll Winner: future/primitive

Posted on:
We have to admit that a bunch of us at The Deli are former skate rats and huge fans of the Bones Brigade crew so there was definitely a group of us secretly rooting for punk outfit future/primitive. In our recent Featured Artist(s) Poll interview with the band’s guitarist, Jaime Herrera, which you can read HERE, we really learned a lot about the passionate group, whose members span multiple decades and music scenes. They’ll be performing next in Philly on Friday, May 16 at one of our favorite local haunts The Boot & Saddle, and you can check out future/primitive’s debut self-titled 12” below.

Cinedelphia Fest: The Shining, Forwards and Backwards, Simultaneously Superimposed w/Psychic Teens at PhilaMOCA April 22

Posted on:

Tonight, Cinedelphia Festival puts a soundtrack to its experimental theater at PhilaMOCA. Inspired by the production of Brooklyn artist and film enthusiast John Fell Ryan, Cinedelphia plans to re-create his The Shining, Forwards and Backwards, Simultaneously Superimposed, a re-imagining of the classic Kubrick-Nicholson movie, based on a critical analysis of The Shining as being "a film organized with logic that flows both backwards and forwards." The evening will be scored by Philly faves, gothic post-punk trio Psychic Teens, who had also created their own instrumental soundtrack for the film Dementia, as part of last October’s WKDU-curated Tuesday Tune-Out. With some of my favorite things under one roof, this event falls under the "must attend" category! PhilaMOCA, 531 N. 12th St., 8pm, $10, All Ages – Alexis V.

Moon Bounce Getting Down at Silk City April 20th

Posted on:

Local knob-turning maestro Moon Bounce is having a 4/20 blowout tonight at Silk City.  Moon Bounce has been creating warped, multi-faceted and finely tuned electronic music for a couple years now.  The R&B informed producer has released a series of increasingly impressive EP’s leading up to his most recent, Dress Rehearsal, out now on his own label Grind Select. This rare show will also include mind-bending visuals by Jason Hsu, making the trippy set that much more trippy. Joining Moon Bounce is the chill, spacey electronic artist Telequanta, who is prepping his newest release, Metaverse, which is slated to come out on Data Garden next month.  Filling out the bill is synthwaver Lapses.  Come get down and work all that food off. Silk City, 435 Spring Garden St., 8pm, $7, 21+ – Adam G.

New Album: “Dream Vacation” – Nicos Gun

Posted on:

The funky, dance-rock party-starters in Nicos Gun have a new album that they just released on the world. Their newest LP, “Dream Vacation” is certainly a great soundtrack for chillin’ outside and sippin’ some cold ones this summer, as well as just closing your eyes and drifting to your happy place if you are stuck inside. The Prince-informed, sexified vibe can be experienced in full below.  These cats are about to move to LA in May, so enjoy them now before we lose them for good.

Weekend Warrior, April 18-20

There’s a battle-tested, charred aspect in Dan Bruskewicz ‘s singing ; as if his vocal chords have been marinated in whiskey, and touched with smoke giving the words he sings an experienced time-tested appeal.  His voice is coupled with heavy, heart-thumping bass, guitar that picks opportune moments to demonstrate force, but knows when to lay back and play with flow, and harmonica that lets out a charging run when called upon.  TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb blend traditional folk with an untamed country-blues revealing their internal core in the process. Tonight, they celebrate the release of their new Bill Moriarty produced EP Kong. Joining in on the festivities is Pine Barons whose exploratory folk wrap its roots around you and the ever-interesting combination of soulful siren Alison Wadsworth and the heavy blues-rocking Satellite Hearts– Johnny Brenda’s 1201 N. Goodnight Lights and Monday Appreciation Society Play The Fire April 18th

Posted on:

A very hip and all-local lineup graces The Fire’s stage tonight to start up a busy weekend of warm weather and live music. Planning the release of their upcoming June album If You Were Here I’d Be Home Now (in homage to the 51st and Market Love Letter mural), Monday Appreciation Society has released two catchy and smart singles under their signature lo-fi filters. Drummer/Singer Mark Rybaltowski and guitarist Dan Wisniewski joined forces and have been picking up speed since the breakup of their band The Quelle Source last year, and tonight’s show will be the duo’s first-ever performance featuring their “full band” including members of The Chairman Dances, Bird Watcher, and The Quelle Source. Headlining the show is the indie quintet Goodnight Lights playing one hit after another with their smooth alternative rock sound. Also recently added to the bill are the “post-modestmousecore” Bone Bats and the innovative folk-star Thom McCarthyThe Fire, 412 W. Girard Ave., 9pm, $8, 21+ -Maggie Grabmeier

Where Is My Mind?: Moon Bounce

Posted on:

Moon Bounce has been making a name for himself with juicy, R&B-informed electronic music that is impossible to pin down. Corey Regensburg aka Moon Bounce, is a classically trained musician who creates all of his own samples, something that is quite uncommon among electronic contemporaries. The musical shape shifter recently released his newest EP Dress Rehersal, as well as a slew of disturbing videos. Moon Bounce has a show coming up on April 20th at Silk City, so in anticipation we chatted with him about his vast influences, the new record label he started, and what the future holds for the promising young chap. Check out the entire thing HERE. – Adam G.
