Tonight, the combination of Al Creedon (Bleeding Rainbow) and Sean Hamilton (Spacin’, Acid Kicks), a.k.a. I IM EYE MY, opens what should be an entertaining sonic exploration at The Boot & Saddle. The duo, intricately layers textures of sound, creating perpetually on the move batches of animated music, warping you into a hypnotic groove that’s part Casio, fuzz, and tribal percussion. Stacking up together on stages, that could alter your mind’s eye. Speaking of shape shifting, Chris Forsyth & the Solar Motel may be just what the doctor ordered as the launch into guitar-driven orbits on spiritual quests that peacefully place you further out there, setting the stage for the consistently evolving experimental psych noise rock of Brooklyn’s Oneida. It’s been quite some time since we last saw Circadian Rhythms rocking a stage with their jazzy, melodic vibrations. But it’s all been for good reason, as they’ve utilized the long hibernation to the fullest by expanding to a seven-piece band and working on new material that will lead to their upcoming EP A Passing Thought. And if the first single, “In the Flowers,” that they recently unveiled is an indication of where their next release is headed, it should be in for a treat tonight at Bourbon & Branch. They’ll be joined by good buddies Laser Background, who have also been working on new material for their upcoming album, CORRECT. This evening will also be a good chance to catch Vermont transplants Hello Shark, whom we’re quite enamored with these days here at The Deli, before they go on a mini-tour with Attic Abasement. Garage-pop trio Amanda X is getting ready for the release of its debut LP Amnesia, which was with Uniform Recording’s Jeff Zeigler and will be available this Saturday, June 28 via Siltbreeze Records. They’ll also be celebrating the momentous occasion the same evening at the Philadelphia Record Exchange, which is run by Siltbreeze head honcho Tom Lax. This evening, the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation will erect a stage at Spruce Street Harbor Park for a free pop-up concert that will be benefit Vox Populi Gallery and will include video projections and sculptures from some of its artist-members. The show features a duel-headed juggernaut of local psych-rock in Purling Hiss as well as Chris Forsyth & the Solar Motel. The trio of Purling Hiss explores and bends the boundaries, placing themselves somewhere that pulls elements from the noise, shoegaze, psych scenarios, while also incorporating delicate melodies with a take it or leave it garage aesthetic and raunchy instrumentation that include monsterous extended guitar jams. It’s a complex sound that when boiled down tastes like what rock ‘n’ roll is all about. Speaking of going out there, Chris Forsyth and company dare (guitar in hand) to push those concepts. Tearing down artificial walls as part of what becomes a sonic journey organically stretching the fabric of convention with elongated instrumental charges, revealing what lies just beyond the edge. This will be nice warm-up for their set tomorrow night at The Boot & Saddle opening for Oneida. (If necessary, the rain date is scheduled for this Sunday, July 27th at 7:30pm.) Homegrown This Is Hardcore Fest kicks off today! Going on its 9th year, the brainchild of Joe Hardcore has blossomed into the premier hardcore event in the world. (Yeah, I said it – WORLD!) It will also be the first year that the fest will be presented by Noisey. TIH will be taking place over the next four days (July 24 – 27) at the Electric Factory and Voltage Lounge with after-parties around the city if you feel like you haven’t released enough aggression yet. PA acts that you’ll want to check out are Blacklisted (of course), Title Fight, Turmoil, and Code Orange Kids with plethora of badass transient groups like Converge, Madball, UltraMantis Black, and Ringworm to help send the pits into a frenzy. The Electric Factory’s parking lot will also host a gathering of food vendors and booths featuring eclectic goods and social causes to get involve with. And yes, there is re-entry you jagaloons!

Philly production trio Les Professionnels (consisting of Drew Kramer, Daniel Reizes, and Christopher Schor) just announced that it has signed to NYC label Nurvous Records, and will be releasing an EP entitled Pure Love (Endless Love). Well, with his latest seven-track EP We Can Talk Politics & World Affairs, Sugar Tongue Slim tackles such topics and more that we tend to shy away from in public conversations. The different look at one of Philly’s finest emcees was produced by Grammy-nominated, multi-talented Khari Mateen with a feature from S.T.S.’s favorite collaborative partner, DJ BearOne.

With their second LP Everything/Nothing on the horizon, the Matthew Scottoline (Everyone Everywhere) led trio, Hurry, heads into Johnny Brenda’s this evening. Bookended by cousins Joe DeCarolis (Psychic Teens) and Rob DeCarolis (Univox), Hurry’s songs almost immediately assimilates to one’s ear. There’s an easy-going nature to Scottoline’s semi-spoken vocals, melding with crisp snap and pop instrumentation, which are given an additional texture by the presence of fiery fuzzed guitar. As we await the new release (whose contents could be showcased tonight), Hurry effectively hovers the threshold of pop-rock, capturing a smoothness that makes your head bob, while retaining a harder edge that keeps listeners on their toes. DC pop-punk trio Ex Hex, who will release their debut LP Rips via Merge Records, bridges the gap to headliners and fellow labelmates Brooklyn-based pop trio Hospitality. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. YIKES the ZERO recently dropped his latest full-length album Yikey The Giant Slayer. The experimental producer/emcee simply doesn’t sound like any artist coming out of Philly’s underground hip-hop scene, and that’s obviously a good thing to us. YIKES will be celebrating the record’s release this Thursday, July 24 at Kung Fu Necktie with support from Old Hands, Hang-Up to Flat, and Carl Kavorkian.

Tonight’s Kung Fu Necktie lineup will allow you to unleash your inner beast. Co-headlined by the heavy-rock artillery of locals Ecstatic Vision and Serpent Throne, whom respectively drip with raunchy guitars and intense decibel levels. Ecstatic Vision collectively piece together a living-breathing psychedelic atmosphere that jars the senses with its all-encompassing combination of pounding spaced-out preaching vocals and searing guitar, linking to generate energy rather than overcrowding and suffocating the room. Serpent Throne fuse dual guitar leads, slick extended solos that one up via the space created by a steady pumping back end that lays the foundation for their explosive outbursts. It could be considered a throwback to the unrelenting guitar gods of yesteryear exploring the indulgent while exhibiting finesse and control. Gloomy Chicago rock outfit Mount Salem should fit nicely on this bill, which will be opened by a new local act, containing members of Far-Out Fangtooth & Gondola, called Ancient Creature.
