Avery Rosewater Opening for People Get Ready at JB’s July 30

Posted on:
It feels like it’s been a moment since we’ve come across Avery Rosewater in a live setting. The local outfit, fronted by Arches’ Julien Rossow-Greenberg, is a freewheelin’ rock ‘n’ roll band that doesn’t shy away from dreamy reverb on the vocals. They shared a digital single, “Jeff 24,” this past spring, which felt reminiscent of earlier War on Drugs tracks. Avery Rosewater will be opening tonight at Johnny Brenda’s for former Deli NYC print cover boys and girl, People Get Ready, who are particularly known for their entertaining live performances. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 9pm, $12, 21+ – H.M. Kauffman

We have to say that we support this occurrence happening more often than not. Oaks will be getting wicked in Philly on Friday, September 19 and Saturday, September 20 when he performs at back-to-back sold-out shows at The Boot & Saddle with Chris Denny.

New Music Video: “Crickets” – Shorty boy-boy

Posted on:

Multi-instrumentalist Josh Pannepacker has been lending out his drumming skills over the last few years to notable acts like Streetwalkers, Sun Airway, and now Cheerleader. We first encountered Pannepacker as mastermind and frontman for Shorty boy-boy. Well, he has a new/old music video (which was actually shot two years ago) that he wanted to share for his track, "Crickets," which you can check out below. The psyched-out footage was edited and shot by Jon Applebaum, with help from Kevin Howley. (Photo by Grace Dickinson)

A Sunny Day in Glasgow w/Pattern is Movement & Myrrias at JB’s July 27

Posted on:

A Sunny Day in Glasgow released their first album in four years, the Jeff Zeigler-produced Sea Went Absent, earlier this week via Lefse Records, and this evening, they’ll headline a triad of local artists that know how to push the envelope. The six-piece develops an ethereal state of affairs, capturing soft siren-esque vocals combined with floating layers of instrumentation, pieces of keys/synth, strings percussion, guitar etc., fitting them together to form a beautiful musical portrait that somehow slightly drifts out there yet, for the most part, remains within reach. On a similar note, the experimental-pop pairing of Andrew Thiboldeaux and Chris Ward, a.k.a. Pattern is Movement, delivers its intricately groovy, multi-instrumental R&B, fusing a variety of musical textures while the end product appears seamless. Myrrias a newly formed quartet, which includes Mikele Edwards (Arc in Round), Amy Harkanson (Downtown Club), Casey Bell (Break It Up), and Emily Robb (Lantern), opens the show weaving together vocals with a darker edge, industrial instrumental tone. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 9pm, $14, 21+ – Michael Colavita

Amanda X Record Release Show at Philadelphia Record Exchange July 26

Posted on:

Cat Park, Kat Bean, and Tiff Yoon, the garage-pop punk trio otherwise known as Amanda X, celebrates the release of their debut full-length album Amnesia, via local beloved indie label Siltbreeze Records, this evening at Philadelphia Record Exchange in Fishtown. The group’s tight-knit attitude transfers over to their songs, demonstrating a well-rehearsed, all-on-the-same-page focus, which is an inherent strength. Amanda X continues to evolve, grow and gain strength, displaying an honest emotional side, vocally and with those wicked, sneaky guitar lines. Amnesia was recorded by Uniform Recording’s Jeff Zeigler (The War on Drugs, Kurt Vile, Nothing, etc.).
