PINKWASH Opening for Naomi Punk at Golden Tea House Sept. 9

Posted on:

Ashley Arnwine (Bleeding Rainbow) and Joey Doubek (Hume) combine forces tonight at Golden Tea House as PINKWASH, with a sound that comes at you in a relentless, hard-driving, precise yet explosive punk aggression, which is evident in their EP Your Cure Your Soil. The album is purposeful unabashed, forward-attacking style, incorporating noise-oriented tweaks and augmentations, while demonstrating an instrumental prowess. They are currently working on new material with Fancy Time Studio’s Kyle "Slick" Johnson. This evening, PINKWASH will be joined by local rock quartet Littler (who won The Deli Philly’s Featured Artist(s) Poll when they were formerly known as Calamity Jane). The intriguing eclectic sound of Olympia/Seattle-based garage-punk trio Naomi Punk, who released their sophomore LP Television Man via Captured Tracks last month, are also set to perform as well as grungy, psych-punk New York outfit PC Worship, who just released their new record Social Rust on Northern Spy Records today. Cayetana Record Release Show at Golden Tea House Sept. 7

Posted on:

With their debut album Nervous Like Me set for release on Tuesday via Tiny Engines, the pop-punk trio of Cayetana headline a record release show presented by The Guild this evening at Golden Tea House. The tight-knit group of ladies lock into a unifying sound that touches on intimate moments and memories lyrically as the vocals express an ever emotive, unprotected side. However, they find a solid manner to measure levels of raw unfiltered snapshots and intense bursts of instrumentation, while also developing songs that capture an infectious relatable element. Punk rock four-piece Albondigas, who recently released a new single, “In The Eyes,” will serve as an appetizer. The moody, melodic pop-punk of The Spirit of the Beehive is also slated to perform as is New York power-pop outfit Chumped. The 9th Annual GreenFest Philly at Headhouse Square Sept. 7

Posted on:

Clean Air Council’s GreenFest Philly returns to Headhouse Square for its ninth year today, and this year is set to be the biggest one yet. Victory Brewing will be hosting a ping pong-filled beer garden, and local, organic foods will be provided by a few of the city’s favorite food trucks. There will be a rest and recharge station with free coffee and solar-powered chargers, and 100+ exhibitors will be on hand to sell eco-friendly fashion and homemade arts & crafts. You’ll find plenty of educational seminars for young and old as well as children’s activities, and advocacy groups will be teaching awareness about environmental causes. The festival will also feature musical entertainment in the form of Balkan dance beats by Slavic soul masters West Philadelphia Orchestra. Former Toy Soldiers frontman Ron Gallo will be laying down tunes from his latest album RONNY on this beautiful day, and Pine Barons might just preview some of the new songs that they’ve been recording in the studio. Rounding out the music lineup will be No Stranger. Headhouse Square, 2nd St. (between Lombard & South Sts.), 10am, Free, All Ages – Bill McThrill

Bardo Pond Luring You Into Places Unknown at KFN Aug. 6

Posted on:

Sometimes, drifting is the best move. Bardo Pond is a band whose musical structure dictates and in fact, may suggest drifting as a policy; gradually picking up the threshold and inching it further from the starting point. In the process, stirring a wicked brew of cutting, dungeon-painting guitar countered by enchanting vocals, they’ll lure you into places unknown. Bardo Pond will be prefaced tonight at Kung Fu Necktie by the heavy-psych vibes of Gondola, hard-rocking trio The Company Corvette, and the searing rock ‘n’ roll guitar riffs of Carousel. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., $8, 8pm, 21+ – Michael Colavita

Weekend Warrior, September 5 – 7

Posted on:
With the release of their forthcoming album, Pretty Music for Pretty People, happening in early October, autumn is going to be the season of The Dead Milkmen. Alas, the band will be touring the western part of the United States during the bulk of fall, giving Philly little opportunity to see them. But before they go, the beloved satirical punk band has lined up a fitting venue for a sendoff celebration – Laurel Hill Cemetery. Join the veteran rock outfit as they entertain the living and the dead with the classics that you know all the words to, and preview some new material from next month’s release. However, be sure to arrive early to do a tour of the historic cemetery, and catch the opening performance from cyber art rockers S.T.A.R.W.O.O.D. Laurel Hill Cemetery, 3822 Ridge Ave., 7pm, $15, All Ages – Bill McThrill
