New Video: “Go Away” (Live – Feat. Frances Quinlan) – Weezer
Hop Along‘s Frances Quinlan had an amazing weekend. She was asked to join Weezer on stage at their sold-out concert this past Saturday at The Troc. They performed the song "Go Away," which can be found on the new Weezer album, Everything Will Be Alright In The End. Check out the footage below! On the record, you’ll find that the track features Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino. Hop Along has plans to go into the studio next month to record the follow-up to 2012’s Get Disowned.
Weekend Warrior, October 24 – 26
So the most important thing to know for this weekend is that The Deli Philly will be celebrating its 6th Anniversary/Halloween Party on Saturday, October 25 at PhilaMOCA. We’re excited to be returning to one of our favorite spaces in Philly with a co-headlining bill where you’ll find the likes of a true rising star in the local hip-hop community and obvouisly one of our favorites, S.T.S., a.k.a. Sugar Tongue Slim, who will be joined by the nasty beats and mind-warping sounds of our old friends, Grimace Federation. It’s definitely going be a rad night of music in the ole mausoleum! And don’t forget your costume because it’s also our Halloween bash, and we didn’t forget the drinks. We’d like to thank the good folks at Sixpoint Brewery, Star Hill Brewery, Balantine IPA, Narragansett, and La Colombe (Different Drum Pennsylvania Rum & cold-brew Pure Black) for sponsoring the fun. I think that you can tell where we’ll be taking things. Come join the debauchery! PhilaMOCA, 531 N. 12th St., 8pm, $10, All Ages – Q.D. Tran
Hurry Record Release Show at FUC Oct. 24
Hurry to First Unitarian Church this evening. Matt Scottoline (of Everyone Everywhere) bookended by Joe (Psychic Teens) and Rob (ex-Univox) DeCarolis, a.k.a. the band Hurry, are celebrating the release of their new LP Everything/Nothing via Hot Green Records. The album injects bright, punchy rockers approached from an intimate point of view; balancing infectious songs with a strong instrumental backbone, Hurry’s blend of personal exuberance is an excellent way to jumpstart your weekend. Tonight, they will be joined by the tight-sounding, pop-punk-inflected Algernon Cadwallader offshoot, Dogs on Acid. An additional twist thrown into the mix is that Bleeding Rainbow will be performing in a throwback two-piece setup, which we hear might be be a more common occurrence with the departure of guitarist Al Creedon and drummer Ashley Arnwine. The unabashed, attitude-expressive rock of The Cats opens the celebration. First Unitarian Church, 2125 Chestnut St., 8pm, $8, All Ages (Photo by Ally Newbold) – Michael Colavita
New Track: “Jean-Louise” – Nicos Gun
Yeah, Nicos Gun‘s Barney Cortez often sounds like Prince, but we love Prince Rogers Nelson. No man can shred harder in the rain and high heels than that guy. Here’s the band’s latest Princetastic single "Jean-Louise."
New Track: “Undertow” – DRGN King
With their new album Baltimore Crush due out on October 28 via Bar None Records, DRGN King just premiered the single “Undertow” over at Pancakes and Whiskey. The steady thudding basslines and casual vocals provide a calming atmosphere before shifting into higher gear, allowing the instruments and vocals to open up. The song finishes in a decidedly different place from where it started – much like the latest incarnation of the DRGN King project.
Ecstatic Vision Opening for Creepoid at Underground Arts Oct. 23
If the idea of heart-pounding, trance-inducing, raucous rock that temporarily encases listeners in an alternative sonic dimension is the remedy you’ve been looking for, Ecstatic Vision is serving it up at Underground Arts tonight. The band recently signed to Relapse Records, and has plans for releasing its debut early next year. With extended, heavy vibes filled with sweaty fuzzed guitars, relentless backend and scorcher-inspired vocals, be prepared to be sucked in. However, you’ll want to be at UA all night anyway with a lineup that includes the soothing cosmic navigation of neo-psych outfit Drone Ranger, whom are consistently changing speeds as they traverse farther out. Then, there’s Ruby The Hatchet, whose rough-edge 70’s hard rock sound, isn’t so much a throw back but rather a timeless tradition with its interlocked thick, rolling groove and guitar lines that take that step ahead, letting the flames emerge bigger, all while Jillian Taylor’s vocals provide a calming fervor. All this will set the stage for the earthy noise-rock of Creepoid that seeps into your pores and finds a home there. Underground Arts, 1200 Callowhill St., 8pm, $10, 21+ – Michael Colavita
New Track: “Face” – Psychic Teens
We’re excited to share a new track with you from Psychic Teens. It certainly has been a while since we’ve heard from the post-punk power trio, and "Face" doesn’t disappoint with its combustible guitar licks and Larry Ragone’s ominously macabre diction. The single is the A-side to the forthcoming 7" that the group will drop on November 7 via Reptilian Records. They’ll also have a big release show that same evening at Boot & Saddle with legendary hardcore outfit F.O.D., a.k.a. Flag of Democracy, and Hound, who will also be celebrating their new album with SRA Records.
New Track: “Easily” – Circadian Rhythms
Below is the latest track from Circadian Rhythms called "Easily." The breezy single is the second offering from their upcoming EP A Passsing Thought. Enjoy!
Shape Breaker Opening for OBN IIIs at Underground Arts Oct. 22
New Music Video: “Hit Me” (Acid Test Lyric Video) – Cold Fronts
Cold Fronts has been rather dormant since signing to Sire Records. Well, they’re gearing up to hit the road in support of their first label release. The four-song EP entitled Forever will be available on Novemeber 4, and the band just shared its first single "Hit Me." The track is also accompanied by a trippy lyric video, which was filmed and edited by Joe Lee and can be viewed below. They’ll be performing next in Philly on November 9 at The Barbary opening for Empire.
