New Music Video: “The Lighthouse” – The Burgeoning

Posted on:

Below is a new music video from Bensalem pop-rock quartet The Burgeoning. It’s for their track "The Lighthouse" off the group’s debut EP "Love Alchemy, Life Algorithm." The video was shot by Will Toms, Lou Peluyera, and Kevin Smith, and it captures glimpses of a young band having fun on the road together intermingled with live performances and backdrops of them and friends along the Atlantic shore.

New Track: “Blue Note Entendre” – Asaad

Posted on:

It feels like it has certainly been a minute since we revisited music from Asaad. That’s not to say that we weren’t feelin’ him. It just seemed like the madness of the music industry had finally gotten to the boisterous emcee who is prone to controversy, and he decided to take down most of his recordings. Well, he’s been back for a bit now, and on his latest single, "Blue Note Entendre," the jazz instrumentals hint at an artist possibly coming closer to some inner peace (as well as being influenced by the iconic record label); however, you can still feel the flames from Asaad’s diction. There is the sound of a young man maturing on this one.

New Track: “Panama” – Dream Safari

Posted on:

Dream Safari, the electro-pop project from Chris Coulton, recently dropped a new single entitled "Panama." The intricate polyrhythmic beats add a complexity to the track that feels almost effortless amidst its vibrant pop melodies. Coulton will be translating his studio magic to a live setting this Friday, November 14 at local batting cages/music space Everyone Hits.

Cold Fronts EP Release Show at The Barbary Nov. 9

Posted on:

If Cold Fronts’ now infamous shows at the Rathaus are any indicator of what to expect for their record release party at The Barbary, it’s going to get dangerously rowdy. However, while Craig Almquist and Al Smith (who founded the band) may have cultivated a dedicated fan base playing late-night shows at the 40-littered, broken-down, University City warehouse nicknamed the Rat, they’ve since scored a Warner Bros Records deal after impressing Sire Records founder Seymour Stein at an impromptu show at SXSW. True to their style, the new high-energy EP, Forever, incites that kind of wild, bouncy, whip-your-head like a maniac dancing (just take a listen to its single "Hit Me"), which sounds like a romcom theme song that’s stuck in your head weeks after you saw the movie. Cold Fronts are opening for Chicago-based Empires, and are currently supporting them on a string of dates this month. Get there early for the all-ages performance, and get ratty. Amanda X Opening for Parkay Quarts at PhilaMOCA Nov. 8

Posted on:

Amnesia, the debut LP the trio of Amanda X, is a record that immediately caught my attention, and with each successive listen, that sonic bond grows stronger. It gives off a close to the vest personal vibe that varies in tone from grey and ominous to bright and promising, consistently moving free in a pop-punk environment in which the individual instrumental elements are tightly woven developing a cohesive sound that’s easy to gravitate toward and rough enough to sink into with enough air to emerge from. Tonight, Amanda X opens for the street-level, dirt-under-your-nails, earnest, sludgy melodic punk of Parkay Quarts; however, the event at PhilaMOCA is sold out so hopefully you planned ahead. As R5 shows begin to wind down at the First Unitarian Church, we find this weekend packed with sold-out ones. The Menzingers will get things nice and sweaty in the basement this Saturday with help from locals The Weaks, which features ex-Dangerous Ponies Evan Bernard and Chris Baglivo. And on Sunday in the Side Chapel, things will get really intimate with a doubleheader from Waxahatchee, a.k.a. Psychic Teens & Hound Release Show at Boot & Saddle Nov. 7

Posted on:

The prospects for tonight’s SRA Records-oriented dual release show at Boot & Saddle are righteous. "Face," one-side of tormenting psych-death rockers Psychic Teens, is a menacing energetic tune littered with jagged, attacking instrumentations and a dose of commanding growl driven vocals that will crawl into your ear waves in a hauntingly pleasant manner. The heavy-footed pedal to the floor classic metal with garage grit of Perry Shall, Colin Mcginus and Chris Wilson combine as a bona fide rocking force, as Hound, and this show will also serve as the record release for their debut LP Out of Time. The show will also feature renowned hardcore outfit Flag Of Democracy, a.k.a. F.O.D., and the high-speed intensity of Spectrum Disorder. Be prepared for Boot & Saddle to rain sweat and ooze with unrelenting, raucous intensity. In other words, be there. Boot & Saddle, 1131 S. Broad St., 8pm, $10, 21+ – Michael Colavita

Little Big League Record Release Show at JB’s Nov. 7

Posted on:
Tropical Jinx, the beautifully crafted new album by Little Big League, was conceived during a time when singer/guitarist Michelle Zauner was coming to grips with her parents struggles through their marriage – a partners infidelity, sexual issues, and then some. While the collection’s lyrical content is inspired by familial struggles and lost childhood, the instrumental backdrop is vibrant indie music at its finest, and the combination is very worthy of the celebration that will ensue at Johnny Brenda’s tonight. Sadly, the show is somewhat bittersweet as the band will be taking a bit of a hiatus after tonight so Michelle can move back to Oregon for a while to support her father after her mother passed away due to cancer. So this evening will be a good opportunity to show your support by relishing in the good times. Since Jesse Radlow and Asher Brooks of Tutlie played a supporting role in the creation of Tropical Jinx, it’s fitting for them to take part in the celebration. And they’ll be joined by alt-shoegazers The Spirit of the Beehive and New York’s LVL UP. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 9pm, $10, 21+ (Photo by Kara Milstein) – Bill McThrill

Far-Out Fangtooth Bon Voyage Show at JB’s Nov. 6

Posted on:

Hypnotic, experimental goth-punk outfit Far-Out Fangtooth are in for a huge November as they get ready to embark on their first ever European tour on Friday. But before the incendiary avant-psych group leaves, they’re all set to throw a bon voyage party at Johnny Brenda’s tonight, where they’ll be joined by Brooklyn’s LODRO. The show will be opened by fast-paced art-noise group Taiwan Housing Project, which is a collaboration between Mark Feehan of Harry Pussy and Kilynn Lunsford of Little Claw. Expect things to get tripped-out and creepy once these three bands take the stage on the same night! Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N Frankford Ave., 9pm, $10, 21+ – Bill McThrill

Free Download: “Nice To Be” – Circadian Rhythms

Posted on:

Circadian Rhythms have posted another track called "Nice To Be," the third song that has seen the light of day from their forthcoming EP A Passing Thought. The seven-piece coaxes airy, up-tempo grooves that, while reminiscent of a vintage sound, maintain a fresh energetic tone, utilizing a plethora of instrumentation (including accent punctuating horns) and coupling that with clear peaceful, Beatle-esque vocals. The single is sure to brighten your day. You can stream and download "Nice To Be" for free below.
