NYCTaper recently offer up not one, but 2 sets from Chris Forsyth & The Solar Motel Band in Brooklyn. The first captures them at Rough Trade on October 24th, 2014 – only a handful of days before the release of Intensity Ghost, while the other occurred mere days ago on January 10 at Palisades. You can stream and download both sets for free HERE. Dig into the rich musical jamming terrain, and see what it unearths. For those who want to hear/see it live for themselves, the band will be performing on Friday, February 6 at Johnny Brenda’s. (Phot by Acidjack)

The Districts “Pop-up” Show & More
The Districts are gearing up for the release of their forthcoming full-length album A Flourish and a Spoil on February 10 via Fat Possum. They already closed out last year with a not-so-secret-show opening for mewithouYou (a.k.a. Thy Foes Profanely Rage) at the First Unitarian Church, under their alias Eight Legged Prawn. Tonight, The Districts will be doing a "pop-up" show for about 25 or so fans (guest list closed) that will double as a recording session with Out of Town Films. They also recently revisited HotBox Studios to re-capture a bit of magic that was found on their viral video for "Funeral Beds" so expect plenty of live versions of songs from the group’s new LP to be rolling out in the coming months.
New Video: “Plymouth” (Live) – Strand of Oaks
Strand of Oaks, a.k.a. Timothy Showalter, performed a stirring solo version of his song "Plymouth," off his latest album HEAL (Dead Oceans). It was recorded by Ace Hotel late last year in the lobby of their NYC location. Strand of Oaks is currently on a Midwestern tour, and will be making the rounds at festivals this summer with appearances at Bonnaroo, Governors Ball, and Hangout already announced.
New Track: “Hem” – Rosu Lup
It’s one of those days where you should just stay inside and hide out from the rain. Here’s a new single to curl up with from local indie-folk outfit Rosu Lup called "Hem." It was recorded at Miner Street Recordings, and was produced by Lou Rogai (of Lewis & Clarke). Rosu Lup will be performing this Tuesday, January 20 at World Cafe Live.
NAH & I IM EYE MY at Cha-Cha’Razzi Jan. 17
Mike Kuhn (of 1994!), a.k.a. NAH, hits you with a surprise attack of combative style hip hop. Seemingly using everything in his arsenal, NAH is a noise-oriented jolt to the nervous system. It’s unpredictable nature circulates adrenaline, while the heavy percussive techniques shake you into submission. There’s a particular edge associated with the unknown, as though anything can emerge around the bend. Tonight, at South Philly’s Cha-Cha’Razzi, I IM EYE MY the creative pairing of Sean Hamilton (Spacin’, ex-Acid Kicks) and Al Creedon (ex-Bleeding Rainbow) will continue their experimental endeavor, developing flowing textures of sound and erecting a living, breathing body of music destined for a place one’s never been but is enticed to see first hand. The jarring post-punk blast of Kerosene as well as Naked Pyramid’s laboratory of psych tones set the pace for a show that invites you in without fully telling you what’s behind the door. Cha-Cha’Razzi (Please contact one of the acts or venue for more info.), 8pm, $6-$8, All Ages – Michael Colavita

Gorgeous Porch Lands at The Fire Jan. 16
What can Gorgeous Porch, a.k.a. Christopher Wood (Grimace Federation, Orbit To Leslie), create with a Casio and some percussion? Well, the answer isn’t quite as simple as the question. It’s universally danceable songs with an omnipresent bobbing percussive beat and vocals that are softly spoken, retaining a sacred air. Sometimes those vocals lay in the back allowing the enthusiastic bounce to set the tone, tempering the friction with its cooling touch affects. However, at other times, the vocals feed off the momentum the instruments establish, steering the ship so to speak. Tonight, that ship lands at The Fire, where it fits nicely on bill that also features the groove-centric electronic experimentations of Willow Talk, taking the familiar and flipping it on its head so you hear it from a new perspective. Then, there’s qqq, whose electro-synth combinations seem to grab hold, leading you through an unlit threshold to a place where the music triggers movement. Brooklyn’s Goste completes a lineup geared to get you on your feet by pushing the envelope. The Fire, 412 W. Girard Ave., 9pm, $8, 21+ (Photo by Bob Cahill) – Michael Colavita

New Video: “Nothing Wild” (Space Jam Sessions) – Amanda X
For those headed to Johnny Brenda’s this evening to catch Amanda X and The Vaselines, the following video may wet your appetite. This new stripped-down Space Jam Sessions features two-thirds of the power trio Amanda X (Cat Park on guitar and Kat Bean on bass) performing “Nothing Wild,” off their album Amnesia. Without drummer Tiff Yoon, the song takes on a smooth, less gritty, intimate vibe bringing the vocals to the forefront.
New Video: “Miles On High” (Tiny Desk Edition) – Levee Drivers
This previous unreleased song "Miles On End" serves as the Levee Drivers‘ entry in NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert Contest, sponsored by Lagunitas Brewing Company. Filmed by Bob Sweeney, the song has that dark, on-the-run feel. August Lutz’s baritone takes on a serious tone as the roll and tumble backend pushes it through and the lap steel guitar warmly whines. Along with a "Tiny Desk Concert," the winner will also perform at the Lagunitas "CouchTrippin’ to Austin" showcase in March.
