Free Download: “Pickwick Average” – Loose Tooth

Posted on:

“Pickwick Average” is the first sampling offered from grungy punk quartet Loose Tooth’s upcoming debut LP Easy Easy East, which will be released on April 21 via Fleeting Youth. With a downhill tumbling percussion start, the song settles in a jogging balance of agitation. Then, there’s a shift, as the track instrumentally unpacks stretching out through its conclusion.

Dead Tenors Live at Bourbon & Branch March 25

Posted on:

Tonight, Dead Tenors headline a showcase at Bourbon & Branch. The four-piece launch into folk-rock arrangements with adventurous trailing instrumentals befitting the traveling troubadour. A steady, heavy throb of bass coupled with dirt kicking drums set the stage for deep, gloomy vocals as guitar lines protectively dance around the perimeter before busting loose into an extended freedom jam. The big band psych experience of Impressionist, whose Kyle Press is celebrating a birthday, takes vocals and submerges them in a musical well of horns and strings, orchestrating a loose yet diverse spectrum of sound. The hypnotic electronic groove of Willow Talk sucks you in as Laura Fisher’s cool, enchanting vocals offer an air of calm. When we last caught up with Lushlife (a.k.a. Raj Haldar), opening for Kooth Keith at Kung Fu Necktie, we learned that his upcoming album, which has been mostly produced by CSLSX, is inching closer to completion. He shared a new track during his set that was collaboration with Ariel Pink. And we’re guessing that we’ll also see a contribution from rapper Antwon, whom he just produced a single for and and spat a verse on. You can take a listen to the party vibes of "Jacuzzi" below, which will appear on Antwon’s forthcoming EP Double Ecstasy, scheduled for release this summer. (Photo by HotBox Studio)

New Track: “Powerful Man” – Hop Along

Posted on:

Take a listen to “Powerful Man,” the latest song revealed from Hop Along’s upcoming LP Painted Shut, which will be released on May 5 via Saddle Creek. Despite the song’s distressing narrative that depicts Francis Quinlan witnessing a father hitting a child outside of school and her subsequent reaction, the song also carries an all out contagious groove and clean tearing guitar work, playing into her ability to vocally balance beauty and then reaching down and tearing your heart out. Hop Along performs alongside Thin Lips on May 9 at Union Transfer.

Ecstatic Vision Opening for Enslaved at Union Transfer March 22

Posted on:

As we await Ecstatic Vision’s debut LP via Relapse Records, they setup shop this evening at Union Transfer. The group relishes in the aura of heavy psych, stomping through in thick engulfing waves that takeover one’s headspace in that pleasant surrender of raunchy rock. Riffs soar in a melodic nature as a prominent primal freakout is formed by the consuming backend thrust and the vocals cut through like a demonic sermon. You’ll want to buy it hook line and sinker. Tonight, they will be joined by a pair of Oregon groups that similarly serve rock cultivated from the dark sludgy corners of the mind. YOB crafts extended doom-y sorcerer tracks, while Witch Mountain is cut from a similar cloth embracing a classic hard-rock core as blunt bass and percussion clear a path through the wilderness. Having just released a new album In Times, Norwegian metal veterans Enslaved complete the circuit with their controlled attack of thunder.
