New Video: Out Of Town Films Pop-up Show – The Districts

Posted on:

The Districts recently performed an intimate pop-up show at Out Of Town Films headquarters to roughly 50 onlookers. This video captures the 3 songs performed as part of full set that evening which included “Hounds,” “Heavy Begs,” and “Bold” – all found on A Flourish and a Spoil. The band, which is currently in the midst of a European tour, consistently pushes the threshold between unveiled, up-close honesty and hard-driving rockers, working that seesaw game of highs and lows.

New Track: “Before The World Was Big” – Girlpool

Posted on:

LA transplants Girlpool just released the title track to their forthcoming Wichita Recordings LP Before The World Was Big, due out June 2. With tongue-twisting interlaced vocals recalling nostalgic lyrics compounded by their strolling bass-guitar lines, the song becomes almost immediately familiar. The duo will take part in a Record Store Day performance at Repo Records this Saturday on a bill that also includes Sad Actor, Cheerbleeders, Easy Creatures, Gondola, Tough Shits, and Witch Fist. Girlpool will be heading out on tour with labelmate Waxahatchee later this month. (Photo by Alice Baxley)

Follow Mohican at Boot & Saddle April 14

Posted on:

Instrumental soundscapes will be in full bloom this evening at Boot & Saddle. The trio of Mohican pushes their sonic tools; stretching over the long haul, that journey results in a crisp and at times heavy sound. The band works in and out of defined areas often changing tempo, slowing down, and allowing a pensive tone to ruminate or progressively build, gaining traction so that it can rain down upon reaching the summit. There is definitely an expansive vibe, but it’s delivered by precise hands. So, although it may be appear easy to get lost in the musical scenery, the group knows exactly where it’s going. The duo of Jeff Lucci & Josh Aptner, a.k.a. Air is Human, continues to explore the stratosphere with their latest EP EQ1, whose wandering ambient songs will be performed tonight – a captivating series of twists and turns that gravitationally draw one in allowing them to ever so briefly shed that earthly weight. Endor Endor allows your thoughts to marinate in the sonic ventures of Matt Weber (Young Statues/Bacio) and Tom Ryan (Young Statues/Atomic Square) to start things off. Boot & Saddle, 1131 S. Broad St., 8pm, $10, 21+ – Michael Colavita

NAH Opening for Babelfishh at KFN April 13

Posted on:

Experimental hip hop comes out of the basements of Philly’s DIY scene and onto the stage of Kung Fu Necktie this evening. One-man wrecking crew NAH, a.k.a. Mike Kunh (formerly of 1994!), creates a nightmarish warzone environment with his bombastic drumbeats and unpredictable, mind-scrambling electronic noise samples, beating you into submission. It’s a white flag that you gladly raise in the end. Kuhn will be joined by local grimy grit-hop trio MCs A Dead Fox, Riff Quantum, and DJ Dick Muscles, better known as Static Brothers, and "the bad boyz of noize" Drums Like Machine Guns. They’ll play host to Houston doom-hop artist Babelfishh, a.k.a. Scott Humer. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 7pm, $6, 21+ (Photo by Gabe Coffey) – Alexis V.
