It sounds like Mimi Gallagher (ex-Nona) is fronting a new band called Year Of Glad (which is not to be mistaken for the Montreal project from A.P. Bergeron with the same name). Below is the Philly power-pop four-piece’s emo-tinged debut single "Flowers." It was recorded and mixed at Big Mama’s Studio with The Weaks‘s Evan Bernard and Chris Baglivo. They’re live performance debut will be on Wednesday, May 20 at Kung Fu Necktie with Loose Tooth, The Cats, and Jake Simmons.

Free Download: “Babes” – Needle Points
We’ve been seriously soaking in the summertime vibes lately, and the good times for us always come with a soundtrack. Needle Points capture it perfectly with their latest single "Babes," as we sit back with a haze of the sticky icky in our eyes and a cold frosty beverage in hand. Come join the fun tomorrow night when they take the stage with Brooklyn’s Spires at Ortlieb’s!

Sandcastle Co-headline w/Mystic Braves at JB’s May 13
Creeping up on Philly this evening is psych-pop/rock quartet Sandcastle, who will be co-headlining Johnny Brenda’s. The group released The Deli Philly’s April Record of the Month, Skull Cauldron, which you should definitely take a listen to below. In fact, they’ve been making some eerily captivating albums for years now. I highly suggest taking Wild Legend for a spin, if you haven’t already. Reps from the LA psych community will be in the house tonight with the polished, throwback sounds of co-headliner, Mystic Braves, and The Blank Tapes. Smoke ’em if ya got ’em, folks! Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 9pm, $12, 21+ – H.M. Kauffman
New Track: “Submission” – NAH
In American music history, the formerly underground genres of hip hop and punk/new wave found themselves as unlikely bedfellows, heavily influencing each other’s cultures in the late 70s and early 80s in NYC, as reggae and punk/new wave did in England. Now, with hip hop already embedded into the mainstream and punk’s resurgence noticeably changing the landscape of our society, it’s certainly not peculiar to find former 1994! drummer Mike Kuhn, a.k.a. NAH, impressively melding the genres together once again. Check out one of his newest tracks, "Submission," below!
Debut Cheerleader LP Available for Streaming
While The Sunshine of Your Youth, the debut LP from power-pop five-piece Cheerleader, won’t be released until May 19, via Bright Antenna Records, you can stream it now at SPIN. Cheerleader crafts energizingly warm atmospheric rock that is loose and tightly rolling at the same time. Their sound is ideal as the temperatures begin to rise and the nights begin to linger. You’ll be able to find Cheerleader this summer at Firefly and XPoNential Fest.
New On the Water LP Available for Streaming & Purchase
Our favorite oddball West Philly folk troupe On the Water has a new album out entitled Cordelia, which you can stream and purchase below. You might also notice that the lineup has expanded once again with the addition of Jesse Sparhawk, Evan McGonagill, and Aubrey Van Vliet since the group’s last EP Baptism. They’ll be having a record release party on Saturday, May 23 at PhilaMOCA, and you’ll be able to grab your copy of Cordelia on vinyl.
Mark Lanky Opening for Eddie Spaghetti at Ortlieb’s May 12
There are those moments when as individuals we choose to bathe in the comfort of sadness. Tonight at Ortlieb’s, Mark Lanky allows you to wade into that melancholy pool, soaking up those unpleasant feelings and temporarily placing them out in the open. It’s draped in acoustic guitar, and delivered in that serious baritone. Lanky sets the stage for Eddie Spaghetti (of The Supersuckers), whose brand of amusing slacker rock anthems have countrified footprints in a crisp yet explosively relatable manner. Plenty of weed and whiskey will be consumed this evening. Ortlieb’s, 847 N. Third St., $12, 9pm, 21+ (Image by Ryan Shafer) – Michael Colavita
New Track: “Survival Is Strange” – Fight Amp
Below is a brusing new track from Philly post-hardcore power trio Fight Amp called "Survival Is Strange." The album was produced by the band and Steve Poponi (Ladder Devils, American Heritage), and will be officially released on June 9 via Brutal Panda Records. They’ll also be heading out on the road in June with Ken mode, and will be stopping back in Philly on Friday, June 19 at Kung Fu Necktie.
