Alex G Opening for Unknown Mortal Orchestra at Boot & Saddle June 16 & 17

Posted on:

Alex G’s music finds that special way of washing over you, embodying that up close bedroom approach. The lo-fi melodics and his brand of simple yet twisting narrative lyricism create a welcoming personal sound that’s hypnotically soothing while occupying a somewhat warped headspace. It can be densely layered while creating an airy cathartic experience, floating as it spaces out and still connects to home. Over the next two nights at Boot & Saddle, the former The Deli Philly’s Year End Readers’/Fans’ Poll Winner opens a pair of sold-out shows for Unknown Mortal Orchestra, whose new record is a melting pot of synth-friendly R&Bthat takes a hold of you while still exploring a psychedelic side. Boot & Saddle, 1131 S. Broad St., 8pm, $15 (Sold Out), 21+ – Michael Colavita

New Track: “Sick of It All” – The Guests

Posted on:

Fledgling four-piece The Guests find comfort in the gloomy, danceable sounds of politically-charged gothic new wave on their debut EP Red Scare ’15. Below is the heart-palpitating standout track from the album, "Sick of It All." It features the record’s producer Ronnie Stone laying down some Thomas Dolby-esque synths.

Legendary Divorce Opening for Dax Riggs at KFN June 15

Posted on:

Local post-hardcore four-piece Legendary Divorce make visceral anthems that are palpable to the soul. Made up of members from Ladder Devils, The Starting Line, and The Minor Times, who came together as a Nirvana tribute band in 2012, the group is driven by the raw intensity of its full-steam-ahead instrumentation and Itarya Leo’s in-your-face vocals. Yes – yet another female-fronted act from Philly to keep your eye on! They’ll be the direct support this evening at Kung Fu Necktie for Dax Riggs, the talented former frontman of sludgy Louisianna metal outfit Acid Bath. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 7pm, $12, 21+ – Alexis V.

New Music Video: “Fur Lined Harvest” – E. Grizzly

Posted on:

Alt hip-hop artist E. Grizzly has a new music video for the track "Fur Lined Harvest." It was directed, shot and edited by himself and photographer Alex Halpin, and is the 5th installment from his video series "Generation A." In his previous video for "Back Check," E. Grizzly was left to die, and the latest, which is a sequel, "symbolizes resurrecting, getting back on your feet, cleaning yourself up, and becoming even more determined than before." The single is off his upcoming release entitled How to Destroy Everything, which is composed of Trent Reznor samples.

Luther Opening for Timeshares at The Fire June 14

Posted on:

Rambunctious melodic punk rockers Luther serve it up tonight at The Fire with that steep incline downhill musical momentum gathering speed from the collection of roll and tumble percussion and guitar that functionally bubbles in concise licks, choosing the opportune moment to raise the heat. That full-head-of-steam sound gets the blood flowing, giving rise to vocals that you’ll find caught in your head on Monday. Tonight, they’ll help celebrate Already Dead (SideOneDummy), the latest release from like-minded New York compatriots Timeshares (with whom Luther released a split 7’’ late last year). The stampeding rock of The Holy Mess infuse slices of melody, while still coming at you ever so hard and fast. The Fire, 412 W. Girard Ave., 8:30pm, $7, 21+ – Michael Colavita

Josh Jones Opening for Warehouse & Scott Yoder at Eris Temple Arts June 13

Posted on:

Performing at Eris Temple Arts this evening, former Univox frontman Josh Jones finds a manner to deliver serious yet danceable songs on his solo album It’s a Terrible World. Capturing a heart-beating sense of percussion and keys that absorbs listeners in a persistent sense of movement and balance with those moving parts and the darker undertones that the lyrics present, there’s an interesting dynamic at play – the outward flow of the instrumentation and the inward reflection that the lyrics suggest. Joining in on this Spazz Presents showcase are hosts Radio Eris. The noir folk of Seattle’s Scott Yoder (formerly of The Pharmacy), whom released an EP Sisters Under the Mink this past spring, and the odd yet measured art-punk of Atlanta’s Warehouse solidify a lineup that pulls you in multiple directions. Eris Temple Arts, 602 S. 52nd St., 8pm, $5-$10, All Ages – Michael Colavita

Weekend Warrior, June 12 – 14

Posted on:
Embace the slow-bake of this summertime weather, and come to Vox Populi this Sunday! After releasing The Deli Philly’s June Record of the Month and her last album as a Philly resident, Megan Biscieglia, a.k.a. Bad Braids, will be saying farewell (for now) by serenading us with that powerful angelic voice and her mystical compositions, as she gets ready to set sail for sunny, beautiful (drought-ridden) California. This will obviously be bittersweet. Well, our favorite garage-psych rockers Spacin’ will cut through all that with their live-now-while-you-can rock anthems. They’ll be playing host to Young Widows frontman Evan Patterson, whom performs under the moniker Jaye Jayle, and the shadowy fantasy-pop drone of Zell Row, a.k.a. Amanda Martinez, will be kicking things off. Vox Populi Gallery, 319 N. 11th St., 3rd Floor, 8pm, All Ages – Q.D. Tran

Hello Shark Radiates at Everybody Hits June 12

Posted on:

There’s internal strength that radiates from Hello Shark’s ability to create songs that provide a truly personal point of view. That ability to expose vulnerability and spin it out of the dark corners of one’s mind into a better, brighter space in those odd yet beautiful lyrical images is a rare gift. Tonight, at Everybody Hits, Hello Shark will be joined in by Peter Gill’s alt-country-folk sound known as Friendship, coating engaging narratives in sparse instrumentation. Abi Reimold’s haunting folk that takes on elements of an imposing storm is also set to perform, potentially showcasing new material, while psych-pop trio Seismic Thrust completes the evening of local talent.
