New Music Video: “Hardcore Friends” – Lithuania

Posted on:

Directed by Miles Joris-Peyrafitte, Lithuania’s video for the title track off their forthcoming LP Hardcore Friends (which will available on August 14 via Lame-O Records on August 14) finds Eric Slick and Dominic Angelella oddly “hopping along” with a plant and ladder respectively, until they meet on a field and shake hands in a blood brothers union. The image is apropos given that Field Mouse’s Rachel Browne and Francis Quinlan (Hop Along) are featured on the song.

Cayetana Hosting Worriers at Boot & Saddle June 28

Posted on:

Cayetana’s brand of punk infuses that steady rolling thump and pop created by the unification of bass and percussion placing their songs in motion. Then, there are those vocals, which are equal parts ache and agitation – clean while still sounding worn in a completely endearing manner, showing that the lyrics come from a personal place allowing them to soak into your ears a little deeper. The trio has been in the studio recently, so new material may be on display this evening at Boot & Saddle with a bill that includes Brooklyn’s Worriers, who are currently on tour with UK grunge-infused punks, Caves. Boot & Saddle, 1131 S. Broad St., 8pm, $10, 21+ – Michael Colavita

Blue Smiley Opening for Girlpool at Nico Nico Mansion June 27

Posted on:

Describing Blue Smiley’s latest LP as ok works in name only. The trio has found a delicate balance, weaving in and out of the onslaught of fuzzed-out and soft-spoken, semi-muted vocals, peeling back that outer and revealing a calmer rhythmic-oriented foundation. That adaptable sense offers an up-close glance, and then steps into battle, ramping up at a blistering pace and then slowing down again – all while the constant contextual smattering of percussion serves as a stabilizing gauge. The trio is a part of an excellent billing tonight at Nico Nico Mansion, which also includes Free Cake For Every Creature, the Katie Bennett-fronted group, whose songs occupy the intimacy of a bedroom, lyrically exploring the adventures of an ever-changing perspective in a catchy honest manner. The duo of Cleo Tucker & Harmony Tividad, otherwise known as Girlpool, similarly captures a youthful essence that touches on innocence and simultaneously cuts deeper as a naturally catchy bass-guitar combination permeates. Californian folk-crooning outfit Watercolor Paintings/Drawing Water on tour with Dark Shrines (of The Color Green) tie together a balanced introspective billing. Weekend Warrior, June 26 – 28

Posted on:
Yes, there is plenty to do this weekend, but where you really need to be at is Johnny Brenda’s tonight for the double release celebration of Creepoid’s new LP Cemetery Highrise Slum (Collect Records) and Ecstatic Vision’s forthcoming EP Sonic Praise (Relapse Records). With Creepoid’s latest, you’ll find the band’s best work since Horse Heaven. Check out our review of Cemetery Highrise Slum HERE! And guitar lovers need to get wise to Ecstatic Vision’s debut release, a combination transcendental shreds and primal beats. Relapse was, at first, interested in putting out the band’s original demos, but the group wanted to go back into the studio to do their first label release proper, and it has been worth the wait. You really don’t want to miss how these fine albums play out live! Brooklyn post-hardcore quartet Sick Feeling will be kicking off the evening’s festivities. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 9pm, $12, 21+ (Creepoid Photo by Tom Cartmel) – Q.D. Tran
