When Lightninging Comes at Ortlieb’s July 22
The brooding, impending storm of sound known as Lightninging is one that gradually develops, marinating in subtle layers of psychedelic tones that service as warnings for when the rains are going to come. Tonight, that downpour occurs at Ortlieb’s, bringing with it forays of melodic guitar runs, while engulfing you in an excursion which naturally pushes further as the quintet digs down into a jammed-out sweet spot that hits a spot on the musical map which they desire. The experimental rock of local four-piece Purples combines harmonious vocals, groove-thumping backend, and guitar heat with cinematic scene-shaping sonic twists. The genre-spanning, NYC-residing Gladshot offers joyfully smooth, casual, bouncing tunes that give off a folky-funky, lyrically inquisitive vibe. Ortlieb’s, 847 N. Third St., 9pm, $10, 21+ – Michael Colavita
