New Track: “Predict Country” – The Fantastic Imagination
The Fantastic Imagination‘s latest single “Predict Country” has an excellent duality. The communal harmony and acoustic instrumentation breathe an airy closeness, and then the song ventures outward stretching its legs in an adventurous manner. That propensity to reach further and still retain close ties makes the journey memorable.
New Music Video: “Know Your Glow” – The Ghost In You
Billy Polard, a.k.a. The Ghost In You, just released a new music video for “Know Your Glow,” which is found on his 2012 release Wet Wood. The video by Bob Sweeney illuminates the lives of several individuals offering a glimpse into their worlds. Toward the song’s conclusion, its ethereal qualities unite these individuals in singing the chorus.

The Goodbye Party Intersects at The Mothership Aug. 3
The Mothership beckons this evening, where The Goodbye Party’s ability to connect a pensive catharsis, simultaneously crafting catchy rumbling rockers comes to an intersection. Tonight, the pairing of Michael Cantor (ex-Ambulars) and Sam Cook-Parrott (Radiator Hospital) may offer a glimpse into a new bag of material, while also pulling from our January Record of the Month – Silver Blues. The quick-jabbing, melodic New York punk trio Arm Candy, whose new self-titled album was recorded by Kyle Gilbride (Swearin’), and the fuzz –adorned Ohio pop-rock quartet Didi complete a lineup that’ll knock that weekend rust off. The Mothership, (Please contact one of the acts or venue for more info.) 8pm, $5-$7, All Ages – Michael Colavita

Catch the Wave w/Del Sur at The Fire Aug. 2
Those tight waxed surf guitar licks and smattering of drums develop a cozy island aesthetic. Del Sur transports you to the tropics or provides a soundtrack to the recent heat spell. There’s a relaxing yet constant wave-hitting-the-shore groove as youthful intimate lyrics splash against your ears. Del Sur opens at the Fire this evening setting the table for the jazz-inflected, electropop of Novelty Daughter. Melding an electronic hip-hop musicality with close confines vocal harmonies, TV Girl headlines. The Fire, 412 W. Girard Ave., 7pm, $8, All Ages – Michael Colavita
Grimace Federation Vinyl Release Party at KFN Aug. 1
Seismic Thrust Tape Release Show at Venue Boy Aug. 1
Seismic Thrust generates a potent mixture of sound with their new EP Be Cool, which will be available on cassette, via King Pizza Records, this evening at Venue Boy. The band delivers that thick, sludgy, engulfing cloud of haze as snarling bass and residual-ringing guitar are cooled and mellowed by vocals, which are unearthed from a guttural place and still stretched in a soothing manner. It’s grungy, smoke-filled psych with a crisp fresh percussive snap and a lingering jangle that peers through to the other side. Tonight, Seismic Thrust begins a nine-date run with New York psych-punk quartet Chimes, who blends alluring vocals and instrumental raw force. The sincere, emotively-exposed songs of Pill Friends kick of the evening. Venue Boy, (Please contact one of the acts or venue for more info.), 8pm, Donation, All Ages – Michael Colavita

A Special Evening w/The Dean Ween Group at Union Transfer July 31
I am sure that there were many of our readers (especially those who grew up in Philadelphia/Bucks County area), who were heartbroken to hear the announcement by Gene Ween, a.k.a. Aaron Freeman/Gener, regarding the demise of iconic alt-rock outfit Ween. And considering that he failed to discuss the disbandment with his songwriting brethren Dean Ween, a.k.a. Mickey Melchiondo, Jr./Deaner, I’m guessing that there might still be some unsettled business for all. Well, this evening at Union Transfer, strapped with his new modified Stratocaster, Deaner will have the opportunity to join the rest of the remaining Ween band members once again, which include Claude Coleman, Dave Dreiwitz, and Glenn McClelland, as The Dean Ween Group. Also joining the crew on this special night will be Scott Rednor. Deaner has been in the studio lately working on new material so expect the unexpected, along with some of your favorite classics. Union Transfer, 1026 Spring Garden St., 8pm, $25, All Ages – Alexis V.
The Stammer Album Release Show at The Fire July 31
With a calm, consistent advance, post-punk trio The Stammer continue its march forward. Steady, spoken vocals, delivered by Brian Brotman, offers an air of calm despite the sometimes melancholy narrative, as a clean siren of guitar rings true and the percussion provides that persistent push forward towards the surrounding setting. Tonight, at The Fire, the band celebrates its new release Days in Between, with the comforting psych-pop charge of Mock Suns, who impose a pleasant atmosphere that accelerates at specific instrumental intervals, asserting force onto a gentle peaceful wave. The frenzied synth-friendly gloom-pop of Blood Sound has that knack for keeping you on your toes, and since you’re on your feet, one might as well embrace it. Brooklyn lo-fi dream-pop crew Exiles helps to usher in an evening that pleasantly clouds headspace with a constant rolling current. The Fire, 412 W. Girard Ave., 8pm, $8, 21+ – Michael Colavita
