Storm the Gates & Empty the Reserves w/Legendary Divorce at Everybody Hits Aug. 9

Posted on:

Let that pent up agitation loose when Legendary Divorce steps up to the plate at Everybody Hits. Converging members of Ladder Devils, The Starting Line and The Minor Times enacts a grimey grunge-punk combination with raw emotions at its core as searing guitar and pouncing percussion stir up that cauldron in one’s gut, giving rise to pressure-defusing, spirited vocals. It’s coming at you hard and fast, storming the gates and emptying the reserve in the process. The sludgy steamroller of a hardcore outfit The Cloth and Philly-via-Virginia punk quartet Left & Right are also on the card. Delaware trio Worth, who will release a new EP this month, lead things off. Everybody Hits, 529 West Girard Ave., 6pm, All Ages – Michael Colavita

On the Go w/The Tough Shits at Boot & Saddle Aug. 8

Posted on:

A three-pronged, locally-flavored punk billing hits Boot & Saddle tonight. Retro-fitted for that classic, catchy, brimming-with-energy vibe that spills over into the audience, The Tough Shits capture a chilled-out yet constantly-on-the-go garage sound. Their playful partying injects enough unfiltered attitude to create a raw edge, balancing things out with that bubbly surfing backdrop – crisp and yet still loose in a way that fits one’s weekend needs. Upon rolling up to Boot & Saddle this evening, they’ll be joined by the fuzzed-out, sprinting-out-of-the-blocks punk of Cheerbleeders, while the snarling, full-steam-ahead, melodically balanced tunes of The Prisoners get things started. Boot & Saddle, 1131 S. Broad St., 8pm, $10, 21+ – Michael Colavita

Blood Sound Album Release Show at Ortlieb’s Aug. 7

Posted on:

Darkwave trio Blood Sound can provide some shade from the unrelenting heat of summer. The group dishes kinetic, inspiring songs propelled by heart-thumping bass lines that team up with synths that reach past the known perimeters and percussion that steadily ties it together. The collective sound is bathed in the murky unknown of what lies in the cavern of one’s mind, yet the lure to explore that area persists. Tonight at Ortlieb’s, they celebrate the release of their new record Too Much Sun and Not Enough Gloom at the Beach. The Morelings, with a Jeff Zeigler-produced debut LP in the works, perform this evening as a chilling under current lies in wait amid their the hypnotic dream of sound. The cinematic, tension-teasing synth of Nearest and the tormenting calm of chaotic noise that is New York’s Winkie complete a bill that offers a guiding hand, daring you to venture into the darkness. Ortlieb’s, 847 N. Third St., 9pm, $10, 21+ – Michael Colavita

This latest video for “Trunk of My Computer,” off the dynamic RJD2 x STS collaboration, delves into the hustling DIY underground music aesthetic. STS flashes back to the days of pushing his demos to establish himself. As we’ve grown accustomed to his sharp-spitting rhymes, they mingle with that layered, cinematic instrumentation of one of our favorite producers in a classic yet fresh manner.

Stay for the Long Haul w/Sheer Mag at Second Empire Aug. 5

Posted on:

With riffs that heat up in short explosive dashes meeting up with that rough-and-tumble backend and those vocals that ache and roar in a passionately committed display, that’s what Sheer Mag does. Tonight, as they prepare for a slate of tour dates, they’re at Second Empire, ready to unleash a tenacious, unrelenting brand of garage rock that rips, wails and stays with you for the long haul. A trio of Toronto-based punk bands are also on the docket, including the hardcore blitz of Mocoso, the garage-punk of Tonkapuma, and VCR, whom released a new EP 3D last week. Austin Latin-punk hybrid Detestados round out a lineup that’ll certainly curb that midweek attitude and gear you toward the week’s end.
