Philly-by-way-of-South-Jersey rhyme-slinger Rich Quick recently signed a distribution deal with NYC music imprint Soulspazm. Check out the titled track from his upcoming album The Everywhere Man! It was produced by the gifted German hip-hop production crew, Snowgoons, whom some of you may be familiar with through their rad collaborations with Philly’s own Reef The Lost Cauze.
New Track: “Fear the Fall” – The Ghost In You
Up until now, Billy Polard, a.k.a. The Ghost In You, has recorded his entire catalogue in the cozy confines of his bedroom. However, he recently shared with us that he’s been going through a transition period, and his latest single, "Fear the Fall," was actually recorded in his car. And judging by the song’s lyrics, he seems to also be struggling through some relationship issues. Well, hopefully everything will work itself out, and we all know that whether it does or not, Polard should have plenty of material to work with for his next album.
Allison Crutchfield Opening for Porches & Frankie Cosmos at FUC Sept. 13
The summer festival season is quickly coming to a close, and with it, the drunken/drugged-out swarms of EDM obsessed twenty-somethings will slink back home to wait for next June. Now, at the brink of autumn, the anticipation for a more diverse sonic palette – less sunny pop ballads and antiquated bass drops and more provoking exercises in musical conflation – is palpable. It seems quite appropriate then, that Allison Crutchfield (Swearin’), along with Frankie Cosmos and Porches, will be performing at the First Unitarian Church this evening. Drenched with fuzzy guitar riffs and bedroom pop vocals, Crutchfield’s "sound" may be voyeuristic and dynamic, but she fits seamlessly into the night’s set – one of dreamy pop sensibilities and clever lyricism. Go, and enjoy! First Unitarian Church, 2125 Chestnut St., 8pm, $12, All Ages – Blake Oetting
CRUISR, Cold Fronts, Cheerleader & More at the TLA Sept. 12
CRUISR headlines a show this evening at the TLA, which showcases a triumvirate of locally-centric pop rockers. The quartet fortifies virulent melodies with enticing, penetrating all-inclusive grooves. Those casual, carefree vibes and polished, crowd participation-inducing vocals are just the right recipe for the weekend as one releases the tension and momentarily lets it go. With their highly anticipated debut LP Forever Whatever scheduled for release on October 23 via Sire, Cold Fronts mesh robust, universal pop-rock anthems with stick-to-your-ribs thumping backend and white-hot guitar interplay. The endearing warmth of power-pop Cheerleader sunkisses your ears with rich harmonies and a cozy haze, while the merger of pouncing electro-percussive and magnetizing vocals mesh in New York’s VÉRITÉ. TLA, 334 South St., 7:30pm, $15, All Ages – Michael Colavita
Weekend Warrior, September 11 – 13
New Track: “Suicide” – STS & Truck North
A pair of gifted Philly emcees in STS and Truck North brings the lyrical heat on their new collaboration “Suicide.” Sampling Phantogram’s “K.Y.S.A.” (found on The Alchemist & Oh No’s compilation Welcome to Los Santos), STS taps into his accustomed, free-flowing word wizardry, handing it off to Truck North, whose confidence authoritatively seals the deal. Combining lyrical urgency with an at ease bravado, the track is helping us glide toward the weekend.
Commonwealth Choir Debuting New Material at Everybody Hits Sept. 11
Commonwealth Choir has demonstrated a penchant for producing loose yearning songs that move in a tight but not restrictive musical space, blanketing listeners in infectious break-out-of-your-shell mentality and ushering in a get down and sing-along scenario. That bubbly crooning bounce steps up to the plate at Everybody Hits this evening debuting some new material to the repertoire. It will be the band’s last Philly show before they head into the studio. The self-aware surf-punk of Roof Doctor comes with tapes of their album Mobile Home Freedom in hand. The band hits a personal chord with anecdotal lyrics accentuated with instrumentation that opens the windows and allows those tales to stretch. New Jersey trio Night Windows bring a pensive lyrical approach with a rock foundation, while emotively forward psych/folk/pop combo of Oklahoma’s Deerpeople completes a lineup that hits home. Everybody Hits, 529 W. Girard Ave., 8pm, $10, All Ages – Michael Colavita
Daytrotter Session – Son Little
As Daytrotter begins to expand beyond the studio walls of Rock Island, you find its session with soul/blues dynamo Son Little, a.k.a. Aaron Livingston, repping Philly in all the right ways at Gentleman of the Road Stopover in Waverly, Iowa at Wartburg College. You’ll also find a lovely cover of Bob Dylan’s "The Man In Me" off 1970’s New Morning and of course, the soundtrack to The Big Lebowski. You can stream the session and download in its entirety HERE (w/membership). Enjoy!

New Trophy Wife EP Available for Streaming & Purchase
Diane Foglizzo and Katy Otto merge in the affecting hardcore punk of Trophy Wife, and they just released a new two-song EP Body Camera/Where is North. “Body Camera” stirs in a grey-clouded melodic anticipation with vocal harmony easing the heart rate as the well-honed instrumental tirade rolls in overhead, crisply shaking the foundation. “Where is North” is a measure of controlled restraint, momentarily demonstrating turbulent potential with a steady hand. You can stream and purchase both tracks below.
Frances Quinlan Opening for Lou Barlow at JB’s Sept. 10
New Track: “Dwell” – Die Choking
The forecast of rain all day has us feeling some kind of way. So we’d like to release some pent-up frustration by sharing the latest from Philly grindcore outfit Die Choking, called "Dwell," which you can stream HERE. The trio is made up of former and current members of Cop Problem, Total Fucking Destruction, and Burden – Josh Cohen (drums), Paul Herzog (bass/vocals), and Jeffrey Daniels (guitar). The group recorded its forthcoming LP, III, with Will Yip at Studio 4, and will be releasing it on October 8 via The Compound Records.
