When it comes to beautifully orchestrated/improvised post-rock, Philly power trio Mohican is a hidden gem proudly keeping the genre alive and well. Chris Markley (guitar), Aaron Agresta (bass), and Ray Beck (drum) powerfully yet gracefully intertwine their weapons of choice on the group’s new self-titled album, which you can now stream and purchase below. It was recorded on two-inch tape by Matt Weber.
Static Mountain Lift Off at Boot & Saddle Nov. 3
Psych-rock quartet Static Mountain lift off from an earthly summit through the upper atmosphere and into the unknown. However, the launch isn’t a rough rocket blast that shakes your core. It’s a smooth venture – harmony-rich that gently spirals into the void, instilling confidence at cruising speed before ratcheting into a heavier gear. Thick, tightly-sprung, heavy grooves propel this long-term expedition, jamming toward a new frontier. Tonight, the launch site is located at Boot & Saddle, where a pair of freshly sprouted local outfits in Cherry and Comb will join the ride, while the joy-inspired, self-described “baby punk” of Boston trio Free Pizza is certain to shake off those workday blues, releasing the tension in an exuberantly loose flourish. Boot & Saddle, 1131 S. Broad St., 7:30pm, $10, 21+ – Michael Colavita

New Track: “Hotline Bling” – Son Little
Son Little, a.k.a. Aaron Livingston, has put his personal spin on Drake’s “Hotline Bling.” The results deliver a soulful aching approach as Livingston’s wandering guitar licks and vocals meld, turning the lyrics inward. The drafty resonance shifts the tempo in a personal direction. Son Little is set to perform at Johnny Brenda’s on Friday, November 13 on a bill that also includes Xenia Rubinos.
New Video: “Soup” (Live) – Girlpool
Below is a new unreleased song from Girlpool called "Soup." It was recorded on October 24, 2015 at The Bunker in San Francisco by PressureDrop.tv.
