Below is the first sampling from the upcoming release; Circa Survive sharing their explosive cover of "Love Buzz".

Sing, Bird of Prey masterfully takes us back in time with the band’s new track, "Diamond Marrow." The wonderfully-crafted psych-pop/rock ditty is the first single off the group’s upcoming LP, and it originally appeared on the Seagreen Records compilation Singles on Valentine’s Day 2016 earlier this year. Sing, Bird of Prey’s full-length album was recorded and produced by Kyle Pulley at Headroom Philadelphia.

Rosu Lup Album Release Show at JB’s March 20

Posted on:

What began through a Craigslist meet-up between Jonathan Stewart and Josh Marsh has resulted in the creation and celebration of their recently released debut album, Is Anything Real. Tonight, Rosu Lup will be anchoring a Philly-forward show at Johnny Brenda’s after the band took the new album on the road, performing the atmospheric indie-folk tracks from the group’s latest effort. The tone of their music shifts from soaring Tom Petty stadium-style rock to blooming, wandering folk with lush arrangements that recall The Acorn and Lord Huron. Jonathan Stewart has a gentle, pleasing voice that, at times, sounds more than just a little like Adam Granduciel from The War On Drugs; not that being reminiscent of one of Philly’s biggest musical exports is a bad thing. Longtime Deli favorites, Levee Drivers, led by the grinding and gritty voiced August John Lutz II, will be warming up the crowd this evening. Rounding out the show is Hemming, the acoustic project of singer-songwriter Candice Martello, who we know from the rollicking and too short-lived project Omar, with drummer/manager Nick Fanelli. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 Frankford Ave., 8pm, $10, 21+ – Adam G.

Ecstatic Vision Opening for Earthless at Underground Arts March 19

Posted on:

The entrancing power of psych-rockers Ecstatic Vision pulls listeners into a mind-warping vortex. Possessing a primal grip, the band’s gravitational pull is rooted in the inertia of its interlocking, tone-setting backend, consuming the surroundings in a tunnel of momentum. With that foundation laid, the internal, tormenting temperature is constantly on the rise. As shards of scorching guitar rip through the sonic tapestry, the vocals serve as thunderous proclamations, guiding you into unfamiliar territory. Tonight at Underground Arts, they’re paired with San Diego’s Earthless, who will be blasting off and stamping the cosmos with their personal brand of raunchy psych-rock. Underground Arts, 1200 Callowhill St., 8pm, $16, 21+ – Michael Colavita

Weekend Warrior, March 18 – 20

Posted on:
Tonight is the Planned Parenthood fundraiser at First Unitarian Church, featuring some of the most rippin’ female-fronted bands the Northeast has to offer. Screaming Females, a band who is impossible to describe without some variation of the word “shred,” is headlining the event along with Cayetana, the indie punk trio whose sincerity will mend your soul, Amanda X, the post-something power-gaze band with a flair for fuzzy melody, Dark Thoughts, who play so fast they make pacemakers combust, and Littler, who will open the night with a healthy dosage of grunge-twee feels. If you have secured a ticket to the sold-out event, you should know that the screaming deal you got on it was in order to promote inclusivity; if you want to support PP further, then there will be an area in the venue to donate those extra bills. All money raised at the event will go to Planned Parenthood Southeastern PA and the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, and all the rockin’ tunes and memories are yours to keep. First Unitarian Church, 2125 Chestnut St., 7pm, Sold Out, All Ages – Bryce Woodcock

New Track: “Jawbreaker” – Laser Background

Posted on:

Below is the latest dreamy composition from Laser Background, a.k.a. Andy Molholt,  called "Jawbreaker." It’s the first single from Molholt’s upcoming full-length album, and was co-produced with Ava Luna’s Carlos Hernandez and Julian Fader at Gravesend Recordings, which resides inside Brooklyn DIY space The Silent Barn. Andy shared, "This song is for all the people who feel helpless. This song is a shattering call to free yourself from the toxic boundaries that we create for ourselves. Life is too short! Don’t waste it." Laser Background will be welcoming the arrival of the hand-cut lathe 7" single at Johnny Brenda’s tomorrow night, along with Mock Suns, who also recently dropped a new LP Stay True, and Sun Hat.

New Music Video: “Energy Waster” – Cold Fronts

Posted on:

Jamming in the van, cruising playfully on "hoverboards," and hitting city after city with their infectious power pop, Cold Fronts‘s “Energy Waster” video by CJ Harvey captures a glimpse of it all. The footage embraces a silly, fun side of the band, while chronicling a bit of tour life. Speaking of touring, the band is currently at SXSW (their fateful location of a few years back where they were discovered by Sire Records’s Seymour Stein), before heading out on separate runs with DMA’s and later Har Mar Superstar. In the Cut: Jo Kusy

Posted on:
For over a decade, Jo Kusy has been crafting dreamy, lo-fi recordings. Since 2009 his output has only increased, but his focus on refining his bedroom sound is fully apparent. While earlier material sounds, at times, like sketches and demos of ideas, on You Break Me, Kusy’s newest effort, he has polished his songs just enough, while still maintaining his homespun charm. And while continually writing for his own project, he has also been part of a pack. Most recently, Kusy has been performing with garage-rock outfit The Whips. Previous to that, he played guitar in the much darker psych-goth group Far-Out Fangtooth; however, when Nicky Kulp left the group to join Creepoid, this gave Kusy more time to focus on his own music, and You Break Me shows off his dexterity – both as a musician and vocalist. It is a fun album evoking Ariel Pink and hazy 80’s new wave, while exploring all the corners of Kusy’s mind. We had a chance to chat with the multi-talented artist about the recording of You Break Me (The Deli Philly’s February Record of the Month), his past and current bands, and a whole bunch more HERE.

Hop Along & Dr. Dog Return Home at The Fillmore March 17

Posted on:

Touring compatriots, Hop Along and Dr. Dog, return home tonight for the evening to perform at The Fillmore. The Psychedelic Swamp continues with Dr. Dog’s psych-pop rock trek, lacing infectious harmonies with reinforced surf-textured tunes to ease you into an undeniable groove. This crew peppers its songs with elements of oddity, in an accessible rejoicing art-pop manner. Further fueling the home cooking for the evening, the quartet of Hop Along balance memorable storytelling with raw yet refined instrumentation that sinks into the cut, breaking loose when the moment is just right ,as the gut-shorn ferocity of Frances Quinlan’s vocals catapult forward. They’re constantly on the move, so let’ss welcome them home. The Fillmore Philadelphia, 1000 Frankford Ave., $32, All Ages (Hop Along Photo by Ryan Muir) – Michael Colavita
