Profligate Opening for Ciara Black at Berks Warehouse Nov. 12

Posted on:
Folks happening to walk a few blocks west of the Berks station this Saturday night may find themselves stumbling upon a cathartic congregation of experimental techno and acid house at Berks Warehouse. Profligate’s music spans from minimal to extreme, from the mellow aesthetics of lo-fi bedroom pop to an intensity of presence found at industrial raves. The solo project from Noah Anthony has most recently collaborated with Elaine Kahn to achieve a sound reminiscent to Australian electronic outfit Severed Heads. Profligate will be joined by fellow Philadelphian, Speaking Parts, who will be celebrating the release of a new album available on cassette via No-Tech. The NYC-based experimental label was co-founded by Ciara Black, who will be in town headlining this evening’s bill. She’ll also be supported by Boston’s Isabella, a.k.a. Isabella Koen. According to the show’s co-organizers, All Mutable and Embalming Lately, all profits from the event will be donated, so those in attendance will get to enjoy partying in the name of altruism and artistic integrity. Berks Warehouse, (Please contact one of the acts or venue for more info.), 10pm, $10, All Ages – Josh Kelly

Weekend Warrior, November 11 – 13

Posted on:
The assemblage of Mike McGinnis, Jon DeHart, and Dan Smith, otherwise known as Fight Amp, announced a few months back that they are going on an indefinite hiatus. So tonight’s show at Kung Fu Necktie may represent the trio’s final Philly performance. One thing is certain; the band will be bringing their focused brand of heaviness – the type that oozes with deep, churning, rhythmic discontent. That purposeful, pulsating, noisy instrumentation quakes, teaming with an ominous vocal snarl that brews a strong batch of sludge-rock. The unfiltered, raucous rattling of post-hardcore quartet Legendary Divorce ushers in an air of intensity to open the proceedings. Fellow Reptilian Records brethren and Baltimore-based noise-rock trio Multicult bridge the gap. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 7pm, $10, 21+ (Photo by Steve Perrong) – Michael Colavita

Queen Jesus Record Release Show at The Storefront Nov. 10

Posted on:

The quintet of Queen Jesus celebrates their sophomore release, Tar Ranch, this evening at the Storefront. Step into the subdued, slow-burning songs nestled in a semi-psych-folk cabin. Slide guitar wafts over the cozy compact backend groove, and the heady conscious reflections of vocals that stickily expand in harmony. Maintaining that seductive somber state, the duo of Zack Robbins (Superheaven) & Josh Mackie (Idiot Forever), a.k.a. DARK MTNS, bathe in brisk but refreshing waters. Nina Ryser (of Palberta) shifts the perspective with the quirky, looming twists of a dream in discovery, and steaming from strength, the momentous songs of Madalean Gauze complete this billing. The Storefront, (Please contact one of the acts or venue for more info.), 8pm, All Ages – Michael Colavita

New King Azaz Album Available for Streaming & Purchase

Posted on:

Post-punk duo King Azaz has released a new record, entitled Spiritus Mundi. Christopher Johnson and Sarah Schardt explore emotively personal places, with a gritty, jangly instrumental dichotomy. Tearing down the exterior security of walls, the strength of earnest exposure with the noisy punch of uninhibited, unified percussion and guitar emerges. The album was recorded and mixed by Kyle Pulley at The Headroom Philadelphia.

New Music Video: “Oversteeped” – Littler

Posted on:

While Littler might have officially gone on hiatus this past summer, the band has shed some light at the end of the tunnel with their new music video for "Oversteeped". The single is off the four-piece’s upcoming EP Bad Hands, which was produced by Swearin‘s Kyle Gilbride and is slated for release in 2017. The group’s latest video was shot on 16mm film by Kenny Suleimanagich, and directed by Dylan Hansen-Fliedner. Guitarist Dan Colanduno spends a day at the shore, and makes a serious effort to protect himself from those harmful UV rays. (Photo by Emily Burtner)

New Track: “Bart To The Future, Pt. 2: The Musical” – Modern Baseball

Posted on:

Philly’s own Modern Baseball just contributed a new track to 30 Days, 30 Songs (now 50 songs), a compilation written & recorded by artists for a Trump-free America. "Bart To The Future, Pt. 2: The Musical" is named after a Simpsons episode that humorously foretold of a Trump presidency. Well, we’re not really laughing now, but hopefully we will be come Wednesday morning. So get out to vote tomorrow & FUCK TRUMP!
