Powerpop quartet Spelling Reform’s debut full-length, No One’s Ever Changed, produced by Joe Reinhart (Hop Along), will be released via Black Rd Records on November 18. Currently streaming via Consequence of Sound, these songs drop one into a bubbling yet contemplative conundrum of narratives. The band will be holding its record release show this Saturday, November 19 at Johnny Brenda’s with support from Cherry and Night Windows.

New Track: “Qiet” – Vita and the Woolf
Jennifer Pague’s vocal usher in an air of commanding power, while touching on the softer, slightly fragile context provided in Vita and the Woolf’s latest single “Qiet.” Anticipatory percussions open the song as Pague’s voice accompanies varying instrumental tones, sitting in a strong, rough-around-the-edges, synthpop power ballad that is elegantly exposed and reassuringly resilient. Their new album, Tunnels, is slated for a January 20th release. However, they’ll be performing at Everybody Hits on Thursday, December 8, as part of lineup that also includes Grayling.
New Music Video: “Bad Catholics” – The Menzingers
The Menzingers forthcoming album, After The Party, is scheduled to arrive on February 3, 2017 via Epitaph. The video for its single "Bad Catholics" was directed by Kevin Haus, and begins at an innocent church picnic, before a few rowdy youngsters crash the affair, stirring things up and culminating with an all out food fight. The band will be rolling back into town on Friday, March 31 at The Fillmore in support of the new record.
New Video: Sounds Local (Mapquest Series) – Creepoid
A few months ago, grunge-psych rockers Creepoid took the folks at Mapquest on a tour of Philly’s "Fish Town" area for their Sounds Local video series. Members of the group hung out with the crew at some of their favorite local spots like Everybody Hits, Johnny Brenda’s, and Kung Fu Necktie. The band also met up at Graffiti Pier, a.k.a. Port Richmond Coal Pier, for a live performance of the yet-to-be-released "Gutter Jeweler". You can check out the entire video HERE! Creepoid also has a new self-produced EP, Burner, coming out via WavePOP Records, and they’ll be celebrating its release on Friday, November 25 at KFN.
New Track: “The Bar Is Low” – Pissed Jeans
It’s been a moment since we’ve gotten any new music from beloved noise-punks Pissed Jeans, since 2013’s Honeys, in fact. Well, we are happy to learn that they just announced plans for the release of a new album, titled Why Love Now, to come out in the new year. The LP was co-produced by no-wave legend Lydia Lunch and Philly metalhead Arthur Rizk, and is scheduled for release on February 27, 2017 via Sub Pop. The band also shared the record’s lead single "The Bar Is Low," which is about "how every guy seems to be revealing themselves as a shithead. It seems like every guy is getting outed, across every board of entertainment and politics and music." Unfortunately, it’s bitterly appropriate for these trying times.
New Music Video: “Sinning Tree” – Cave People
Cave People recently released their full-length debut, Sinning Tree, via Stereophonodon Records. In the video for the title-track, directed by Sarah Trad and Kevin Tomasura, Dave Tomaine encounters a troll in the woods, and proceeds to exchange cash for a seed. However, the planting process takes an unexpected turn as Tomaine ultimately ends up in the ground.

A Benefit For A Friend In Need w/Sheer Mag at PhilaMOCA Nov. 14
The Deli Philly 2014 Best Emerging Artist Poll Winner, Sheer Mag recently announced that they’ll be combining their first three seven-inches into one LP, entitled Compilation. They have also remastered the EPs I & II for the collection. Tonight is the hard-rockin’, riff-lovin’ quintet’s last scheduled show in Philly before heading out on their tour of Australia and New Zealand so you want to make it out to PhilaMOCA this evening where they’ll be holding A Benefit For A Friend In Need. Sheer Mag will be joined at this charitable R5-presented event by Philly punks Wild at Heart, whom we are expecting some good things from in the near future, and gutter-pop trio Metalleg. PhilaMOCA, 531 N. 12th St., 8pm, $12, All Ages – Alexis V.
New Track: “Not In The Sun” – Lunacy
Lunacy, the solo project from Nick Kulp (ex-Far-Out Fangtooth, ex-Creepoid), shared its second single off the forthcoming record, Life We Choose To Follow (Funeral Party Records). The EP’s opener, "Not In The Sun," hides in the shadows of what feels like now a bleek future as a blanket of static haze is pulled over our heads to block out life. The album was recorded on a portable 4-track, with the help of vintage equipment, and will be available on cassette via Funeral Party Records on November 25, but you can pre-order it digitally below.
Taiwan Housing Project Sign to Kill Rock Stars
Congrats to noise-punks Taiwan Housing Project for signing to Kill Rock Stars! The revered indie label announced that they’ll be releasing the band’s EP Three Song Record, which originally surfaced via M’Lady’s Records as a self-titled seven-inch. Willfully inaccessible and unapologetically harsh, feel free to take the album for a spin (once again) below. It just might be what you need today to shake off the recent horrific Trump announcement of white nationalist/antisemite/"alleged" domestic abuser Steve Bannon’s appointment to the position of White House Chief Strategist. We haven’t been overreacting. This isn’t normal. Don’t let them fool you into thinking that it is. Let’s get ready for a battle, folks.
