New Music Video: “Mesa” – Cayetana

Posted on:

Cayetana make their dreams come to reality in the new music video for their single "Mesa". Directed by Adam Peditto, Augusta Koch, Allegra Anka, and Kelly Olsen walk through an Alice in Wonderland-type door, transporting the ladies into a vibrantly colorful, beautiful scene that simply jumps off the screen. (Serious props go out to the video’s set designer!) "Mesa" originally appeared on the group’s split release with Melbourne’s Camp Cope, and the track will also find a home on their upcoming album, New Kind of Normal, due out May 5 via the band’s own label Plum Records. Cayetana are currently on the road supporting Lemuria during their 10th Anniversary celebration tour of Get Better.

No Thank You, the fledgling project from Kaytee Della-Monica, teeters between reflective open spaces and rambuctious, revealing powerpop on her first label release, Jump Ship. It’s another gem of a discovery from Philly’s own Lame-O Records. The record officially comes out this Friday, February 24, but you can now stream Jump Ship in its entirety below. Clocking in at under twenty minutes, it might end much sooner than you’d like; however, a lasting impression remains long after the music has stopped. You can also join Della-Monica and friends on the evening of her release at Everybody Hits, before she heads out on tour this weekend with The Superweaks in support of her latest.

New Sandcastle EP Available for Streaming & Download

Philly’s own Sandcastle emerge from their musical lair to traverse across a psych-folk/pop terrain on their new album Netherodes. Nomadic riffs and fragile sometimes eerie vocals complement each other, creating a mystical air around the latest batch of recordings. The EP is made up of five original tracks, accompanied by opener, "How Sweet I Roam’d," which contains the words of William Blake laid over the traditional Scottish folk composition of "The Water Is Wide". You can stream and download Netherodes for free below.

New Pissed Jeans LP Available for Streaming

Posted on:

Sub Pop mainstays Pissed Jeans recently premiered their fifth album, Why Love Now, over at Noisey. The Philly via Allentown four-piece recruited the help of Sumerlands‘ Arthur Rizk and punk/no-wave legend Lydia Lunch to produce its latest. The band’s innate ability to come together to create cathartic anthems spotlighting the soul-crushing, mundane aspects of life keeps us dialed in – that and the fact that Pissed Jeans is one of the best live bands out there. Why Love Now officially comes out this Friday, February 24, and Pissed Jeans will be hosting a couple of intimate hometown shows at Boot & Saddle on Friday, March 10 and PhilaMOCA on Saturday, March 10. You need to grab your tix immediately before both shows eventually sell out.

New Sun Organ Album Available for Streaming & Purchase

Posted on:

While all of us have had to bear the brunt of bewildering winter climates and the regular barrage of perplexing national news, Sun Organ’s Timothy Jordan has been hard at work putting together their newest album, Something Doesn’t Feel Right. The EP wastes no time showing off its ability to transport listeners to a world of undulating tones, swaying behind mellow machine drumming, acoustic guitar, and melancholic verbal ruminations. Whereas previous releases operated within a larger group dynamic, Something Doesn’t Feel Right carries the intimacy of a one on one conversation, stripped of a cautious revisionism often present in social dynamics. What lets this record stand out from their previous work is its ability to be forthcoming while not giving off an air of urgency, wounded from torment but insistent on addressing one’s woes with an unforgiving clarity. Sun Organ are currently on the road with fellow Philadelphians Clasp. (Photo by Jersey Boy Photo)

New Track: “Greyhound” (Kississippi Cover) – Tombo Crush

Posted on:

Tombo Crush puts an airy, ghostly spin on their rendition of Kississippi‘s "Greyhound". The track was recorded for Heart Hitter Vol. 1, a covers compilation that will give 100% of its proceeds to The Trevor Project, "the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) young people ages 13-24." Your donation will go towards running suicide-prevention hotlines, text lines, training/workshops, and community centers. You can take a listen to the rest of the compilation HERE, and give what you can.

New Track: “Cross That Line” – Coal Mine Canaries

Posted on:

"Cross That Line," the closing song on Coal Mine Canaries newly released EP We Poor Devils, leaves a lasting impression. The dreamy sparkle of xylophone steps into the soulful, inebriated sway. The song takes on the appeal of an evening shared with a close group or significant other, when everyone reaches that slightly tired but united buzz, thus allowing his or her exterior guard or pretension to drop and embrace the moment. Lyrically describing an unfortunate misstep, the track retains an inherent but slightly mournful fondness.
