New Music Video: “Twenty First Road Trip” – The Spirit of the Beehive

Posted on:

The Spirit of the Beehive’s long-awaited new album, Pleasure Suck, is set for release on March 24 via Tiny Engines. As we lie in wait, Federico Casanova’s video for “Twenty First Road Trip" has emerged. A blitz of ever-morphing, creepy/nostalgic imagery is displayed as the song’s soothing, grunge-psych marriage charges ahead. You can catch the gang in the flesh tomorrow night at Underground Arts, before they head out next week on an extensive tour across the U.S. in support of Pleasure Suck. (Photo by Emily Burtner)

Incorporating beloved, traditional sounds of the past while continuing to push the boundaries of our pleasure sensories, the trio came to get down on its latest release Make Me Feel Again. Upon first listen, it’s pretty obvious to assume that a party is a brewin’ whenever these three gents come together for their groove-filled, expansive, improvisational live performances. New Track: “The Electric Step” – Ecstatic Vision

Posted on:

Raw Rock Fury, the new album from Ecstatic Vision, is slated for released on April 7 via Relapse. “The Electric Step” cultivates a heavy, hazy, rhythmic air of anticipation, before the guttural ooze of sorcerer-style vocals descend from the mountaintop. The long-form nature shifts you into the band’s fire-breathing, axe-wielding ferocity. And before the crew heads down to SXSW, catch them this Friday, March 10 at Underground Arts as part of an epic bill that also includes upcoming tourmates Creepoid as well as Purling Hiss and The Spirit of the Beehive!

New Port Arthur Album Available for Streaming & Download

Posted on:

Serene Americana welded within an experimental organ/synth-anchored platform, Fall of Man, the new EP from Port Arthur, toes the threshold between trippy and traditional. The Luke Shefsk-led ensemble crafts a union between a folk proximity marinated in inviting strings and sustaining backing vocals. However, that backyard bonfire vibe is contrasted by surging searches of outer auras.

New Track: “Waiting” – Evil Sword

Posted on:

Tortured, tormented, buried alive – a menacing but pleasant rhythm stomps on the ground above one’s head surrounded by bells and whistles in “Waiting”. It’s the first single from An Eerie Fire Eats The Brain, the forthcoming full-length album from Evil Sword, which will finally escape the experimental dungeon on March 10. Those haunting, suspenseful exchanges can be seen and heard in the flesh this Friday when Kate Ferencz, Ben Furgal & co. appear at PhilaMOCA for their tape release with local punk duo Ursula and Halloween Tres.

New The Vernes LP Available for Streaming & Download

Recorded in their basement during 2016, three sets of singles and an EP succinctly wrapped in a cohesive package, that’s The Vernes‘ self-titled debut album. The quintet locates a whimsical, drifting, lo-fi air that can scorch despite their penchant for breezy conditions. You can catch them performing next in Philly on Wednesday, March 22 at Boot & Saddle with American Trappist and Stef Chura. (Photo by Jamison Pinkert)

New Track: “Home (Where She Wanted To Be)” – Night Windows

Posted on:

“Home (Where She Wanted To Be),” the title track from Night Windows forthcoming EP, thrusts assertively forward, propelled by bass and the sly addition of synth. While the percussive, spacey thud sets the tone, harmonized vocals iron the production out. Home will be released on March 31 via Black Rd Records. However, the band’s release show is slated for Tuesday, March 28 at Boot & Saddle, and the bill will also include co-producer Fred Thomas as well as HLEP & Maxwell Stern.

Weekend Warrior, March 3 – 5

Dark-pop collective She Policeman will be celebrating the release of its debut self-titled LP tonight at Boot & Saddle. It will also mark the band’s debut live performance. Led by singer-songwriter Michelle Spano who is back by Barry Knob, Steve Quaranta, and Claire Quaranta, you’ll find the group of longtime Philly musicians transporting us back in time to what now seems like the carefree 80s compared to 2017our present day circumstances. Opening the festivities is Langor, indie pop from the oddball mind of Brian Langor (Needle Points, ex-Sw!ms), and Philly indie-rock elder statesmen, Purples, will be headlining this evening’s bill.

And if you can find your way to North Philly DIY space Trash House on Sunday, you’ll be treated to a rad lineup of Hello Shark, Power Animal, and The Goodbye Party, playing host to Brookyn’s Bellows. – H.M. Kauffman
