New Data LP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Posted on:

Featuring members of both Palberta and Palm, Philly-based trio Data is comprised of Nina Ryser (keyboard/vocals), Eve Alpert (drums), and Gabe Adels (guitar/vocals). The group’s sound is distinct from their respective projects, while retaining the delight, jest, and talent that are present in their other ventures. Divine Creature is a sonic labyrinth, a savory fusion of no-wave and cocktail-lounge musical sensibilities – an album that sounds polished yet rough around the edges. It is cohesive and compelling, a collection of songs that amount to a very welcome addition to these artists’ musical canons, and is now available on cassette and in digital form via Single Girl, Married Girl.

New Music Video: “Plastic Impulse” – Tremellow

Posted on:

Tremellow, a.k.a. Keith Abrams (of Pine Barons), delves into the delightfully strange in the new music video for “Plastic Impulse”. The song, featured on Doom Paste, a split cohabitated with Haggert Mctaggert, ventures into a waking freshness before cascading in a deep thumping body. Loosening, psych-pop exploits are punctuated by a combination of booming percussion and guitar spikes. The video creeps into one’s awareness, piecing together a mysteriously intriguing sequence of images.

New Pretty Words EP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Posted on:

Free-flowing and, at times, funky, emotive rock radiates from Pretty Words recently released self-titled EP. Available on cassette via Melted Tapes, the EP embodies an earnest, gritty sonic texture, stewing in consciousness while retaining an ability to cut loose. Dueling stuck-in-your-own-head lyricism but looking-to-break-out instrumentation pull from both directions, and the listener wins. You can catch Pretty Words this Friday, April 14 at The Fat House with Good Looking Friends, Stay Inside, Midnight in Rome, and Michael Poggioli.

New Track: “You Are Not Your Mind” – Eric Slick

Posted on:

Palisades, the forthcoming album from Eric Slick (Dr. Dog, Lithuania), will be released via EggHunt Records on April 21. Concise pockets of percussion unite with keys, pacing the album’s latest single “You Are Not Your Mind”. The song’s pensive, open-air aesthetic rejuvenates, fitting the recent pleasant arrival of spring. Slick will be heading out on a slew of tour dates with Sinkane, starting next week.

Released via Lame-O Records and Father/Daughter Records, Big Day, the new album from Loose Tooth, will shake you out of your Monday zombie-like state. Consistently shifting gears, the band creates a brutally catchy record. On Saturday, April 29 at Cat House, Loose Tooth will be taking part in the recently announced, multi-venue showcases of Alright? Okay Fest, presented by Lockjaw Media.

New Poor Devils EP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Posted on:

Psych/surf/garage rockers Poor Devils sound like they are up to no good on their new EP Idaho. From the get-go, a dark cloud hovers over the outlaw tales strung together by the Philly four-piece. It’s a menacing yet mesmerizing batch of recordings that’s the perfect soundtrack for a good night of drinkin’, brawlin’, and even a little lovin’. Simply badass!

Weekend Warrior, April 7 – 9

Posted on:
The world continues its trend of being a chaotic and confusing place. So as the week reaches its tail end, the Pilam Human BBQ XXXIX will be offering a refreshing daylong reprieve this Saturday combining music, eats and whatever your debaucherous heart desires. The noon till midnight billing will include nearly 20 acts in all. Among them, the incisive lyricism of Sad13 delivered on an enthusiastic uplifting danceable platform and the emotive electro-pop/rock of Brandon Can’t Dance, who hovers between a solemn solitude and then swims in a sea of infectious grooves. With a new album Dark Nuclear Bogs set to arrive on April 28, the candy-coated psych-carnival of Laser Background will alter one’s perspective, while the reverberating, relatable melodies of Clique lock into your head as will the spellbinding narratives of this year’s Deli Philly Best Emerging Alt Rock Artists Poll winner, Curtis Cooper.  These are but a small sampling of the lineup, which can view in full HERE, so head over to Pilam for a day of sonic sustenance. – Michael Colavita

Dark Thoughts S/T LP Being Reissued via Get Better Records

Posted on:

Adrenalized, rowdy, instantly catchy punk that sprints from the start, Dark Thoughts‘ self-titled album doesn’t let up. About a year after its vinyl/digital release on Stupid Bag Records, the LP is scheduled to be reissued on cassette/digital via Get Better Records on April 20. The band finds a balance between ripping aggression and enthusiastic adhesion. Step out of that late week sleepwalking state, and kick things into high gear.

New Track: “Dark Times” – Commonwealth Choir

Posted on:

Know Hope Records recently issued a compilation to benefit the ACLU. Solidarity in Sounds features 22 songs from 22 bands, and "Dark Times" was contributed by Commonwealth Choir. The track serves as a gritty, bass-driven point of opposition, stepping forward when things aren’t right. It captures the band’s omnipresent ability to find a good hook; however, this message is delivered with a show of force and some snarl. Give it a spin, and stick together in supporting the ACLU.
