New Psychic Teens EP Available for Streaming

Posted on:

Gloomy melodies thrust forward with steel-cutting guitar and deep-tunneling backend, HEX, the new EP from Psychic Teens, immediately perks one’s ears. Officially due out this Friday, April 21 via Hex Records, you can now stream the record in its entirety at CLRVYNT. The five-song EP is electrified in a moody, noisy clash between bleak resignation and resilience. Hovering that threshold between despair and aggression, the band keeps moving. They’ll be celebrating its arrival at Boot & Saddle on Friday, May 5, with Tiny Vices and Dulls.

New Track: “Tiny Tethers” – OhBree

Posted on:

Exuberant, oddball troupe OhBree will release their forthcoming album, Burn Bridges, Burn Pies, on May 19. “Tiny Tethers” serves as our first look behind the musical curtain. Kicked into drive by omnipresent keys, the song flows as feverish horn blasts pop around twists of harmony-backed flashes of tongue-twisting lyrics. It’s a playful carnival of sound that brightens one’s day. You can catch OhBree as part of On The Water’s EP release show this Saturday, April 22 at Eris Temple Arts, with Dominic, Dear Rabbit, and Baby & Shylow. (Photo by Emily Dubin)

Weekend Warrior, April 14 – 16

Posted on:
Stinking Lizaveta commemorate their latest record, Journey to the Underworld (Translation Loss Records, with a release show this evening at Johnny Brenda’s. The well-oiled, musical machine of a trio reigns down on listeners with an adventurous heavy exactness. Under the shield of an ominous darkness, the band traverses the unknown obstacles that lie in its path. With a cold, calculated, white-hot laser tenacity, Stinking Lizaveta forge a route, trudging on the pace of the underlying heart-pumping instrumentation that is always ready to detonate. Sheena & Thee Nosebleeds and The Company Corvette will reinforce this hard-rocking, psych-tinged sonic stew.

Also, this Saturday evening, The Foundry hosts The MINKA Carnival. Insatiable, loose, funky grooves permeate from MINKA, it’s the type that dictates/demands one to slip subconsciously into the get down. Meanwhile, having recently uncorked their new EP New Age Psychedelic Experiment, The Mysteries implore a casual psych-pop framework, while the multi-genre-melding, seamless stream of beats from Attic Tapes, formerly known as Fishtown Beats, sets the night into motion. – Michael Colavita

New Track: “With Age Comes…” – MANIK|NETER

Posted on:

MANIK|NETER, the new minimalist side project from Carl Kavorkian, recently shared tracks from his a new EP Mannequin Eater. Leading off, “With Age Comes…” roughly rumbles with a static/fuzzed-out bass and percussion, setting up the underground platform of disenchantment. It’s a raw, roaring, line-by-line appeal to flip the script and aim toward a change. Kavorkian will be performing next in Philly on Friday, May 5 at The Fire.

New Meddlesome Meddlesome Meddlesome Bells Single Available for Streaming & Download

Posted on:

“Folding/Smokestack Lightnin’,” the latest single from Meddlesome Meddlesome Meddlesome Bells, was released via Bells Recording Company. Channeling a quicksilver-psych groove, cavernous vocals filter through the domain, before rapturous guitar riffs take the reins. Then, the band unleashes their hazy, stampeding take on the Howlin’ Wolf classic and Grateful Dead favorite, stirring the dust off them bones in the process.

Zoe Tanner and Jordan Dupree dropped out of a small conservative Christian college (ha…do you blame them!) to immerse themselves in the music that they were writing, which would eventually become songs found on Geisha Facade’s first full-length album, You Went To Space, Good Bye Dear. And as the duo “try and take over the world” with the help of their live drummer Dr. Yanitor, you can witness their attempts at world domination this month in Philly on Wednesday, April 19 at Boot & Saddle and Thursday, April 27 at Ortlieb’s. New Track: “Renovations” – Harmony Woods

Posted on:

Philly singer-songwriter Harmony Woods, a.k.a. Sofia Verbilla, creates a touching imagery of a love that might not be meant to last in her latest single, "Renovations," which premiered ealier today over at Stereogum. The lines – "I tried to be build a home in you, but the foundation was overlooked. The floorboards are shaking in the room we loved once. Is this the end for us? Is this the end for us?" – hit like a ton of bricks before the hopeful, upbeat realization that letting go might be best. You can find the lovely ditty on her forthcoming LP Nothing Special, due out May 5 via Honest Face Records. (Photo by Ashley Gellman)
