Weekend Warrior, May 26 – 28

Posted on:

The Rotunda hosts a daylong hardcore/punk affair this Saturday; Break Free Fest hopes to shine a light on those that have been marginalized within the scene. Among the plethora of artists from near and far, the undeterred raw emotive eruption of Soul Glo holds nothing back, capturing an intensity soaked in sincerity. After recently releasing their new EP Modern MutantsComplex bombards the airwaves with the combination of Spanish-English that steadily rips at its core. Exposing the walls of injustice, the quick-hitting onslaught of S-21 tears at the foundation, while the murky, rumbling, noise-etching, pressure-building punk of Solarized and genre-melding, noise-filtered, dance-driven, sonic-concoctions of DJ Haram set off a day of excellence. – Michael Colavita

New Fire in the Radio Album Available for Streaming & Purchase

Posted on:

Fire in the Radio explores ominous personal interworkings with their recently released record, New Air. While consistently pushing the instrumental pace, the band lyrically explores themes of loneliness, personal loss, substance abuse, etc. Hitting on meaningful subject matter while maintaining a high-energy level, the songs take anthem-esque qualities of reflective relief. Fire in the Radio will be celebrating the album’s arrival this evening at Boot & Saddle, where they’ll be supported by Digger and Crossed Keys.

Berdmajik, a.k.a. Donnie Felton (of Grubby Little Hands), recently released his debut full-length album via Golden Brown. SPELLS is steeped in slinky, soulful R&B, as steamy electropop wafts over an island destination. In the midst of the hot and heavy air of intimacy, a funky get down is triggered. New Track: “Sulking” – Cameron Wayne

Posted on:

Lo-fi, garage-punk, Asheville, NC transplant Cameron Wayne sounds like he is ready to plug-in and let it rip anywhere and everywhere on his new full-length album. Turning the fuzz up to eleven, he’s teamed up Philly’s own Suicide Bong Tapes to release Spiral Mountain. We currently have the track, "Sulking," on repeat… And that piano melody instantly had us searching YouTube to revisit The Munsters’s theme song (which is classic – miss that show).

Debut Brave Face EP Available for Streaming & Download

Posted on:

In a composed mad-dash of melody, Today’s Mistakes, the new EP from Brave Face, is a mistake worth making. Including members of No Thank You, The Superweaks, In the Pines, and Narra, the band dishes out musically momentous and emotively open narratives, covering large instrumental expanses in the process. Splicing lyrical sincerity with an outpouring of energetic exuberance, the songs hit with immediacy, and then are gone in a flash.

New THANGS EP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Posted on:

We enjoy being turned on to new artists from the knowledgeable jurors in our annual year-end poll, which is where we first learned of the production collective, The THANGS (nearly half a decade ago – dang!). The mysterious trio of producers have teamed up with Mike Robinson, who lent his talents on vocals and with the writing of lyrics, whose themes were meant to "reflect the beauty and absurdity of our modern existence, with existential musings that walk the precipice of agnosticism and the ‘spirituality’ of nature." Breezy, the long-awaited follow-up to the group’s debut LP Correct, pulsates with palpable energy as textured sonic layers mesh beautifully with Robinson’s measured, baritone delivery, creating surprising, cerebral, dance-floor bangers that we hope will get you the Monday doldrums of this rainy, overcast day in Philly. You can also join them at the EP’s listening party, being held on Saturday, June 3 at Win Win Coffee Bar, where the tracks will be accompanied by visuals and a short documentary about the collaboration.
