While the name Recluse Raccoon may have the sheen of simple children’s programing, the Richmond-based three-piece is far from delivering clean, simplistic tunes. Billing themselves as a psychedellic-jazz-pop band, the group is certainly not too shy to serve up angular melodies, but Recluse Racoon’s tracks never stray too far from structure–they often root themselves with a soft, driving tom-tom–and create tracks that edge toward experimental, but never feel loose. Maybe what’s most striking about the band is the voices–gossamer vocals that border on ghostly create a distinct, ethereal, quality to their songs. With a sound that inspires introspection, the band is definitely our suggestion for your next grey, moody day. You can catch Recluse Raccoon playing The Camel 12/9 with Lightfields, The Wimps and Get in the Car, but in the meantime, stream them below.-Olivia Sisinni
Really Big Pinecone releases sophomore LP ‘What I Said About The Pinecone’
We somehow missed the excellent, almost self titled debut record by Brooklynites Really Big Pinecone, released in early 2015: it’s a math flavored psych-pop gem that made the Rolling Stone list of 15 Great Albums You Didn’t Hear in 2015. The group, which would be an ideal touring companion for Deli NYC favorites Celestial Shore, just released their sophomore album ‘What I Said About The Pinecone.’ The record, while being thoroughly enjoyable, fulfils the band’s promise to deliver music that’s "messy, but playful, abstract, as well as earnest and joyful." Check out single W.I.S.A.T.P. below, and follow the band’s bandcamp profile for updates about upcoming shows.

The Landing plays Baby’s All Right tonight (11.28) + talks about the creative process on Delicious Audio
Meditating about the universe is heavy stuff but, like much in life, you have the option of being consumed, or delighted by your surroundings. Brooklyn-based electronic artist, The Landing, does the latter. Producing synth-pop tracks that have their feet planted firmly on the ground, but their eyes to the sky, The Landing’s songs capture the bliss of infinity, but are packaged in a way that harkens back to pop hits of the early 60’s. The result is tunes that are spacey in scope, but still feel like home. The Landing will be performing tonight (11.28) at Baby’s All Right on a uber-cool all NYC electronic bill including also Salt Cathedral and Ela Minus. He also answered a few questions about his creative process in the interview below.
Q&A with The Landing about the creative process on Delicious Audio.
Thirdstory releases new single ‘G Train”, plays Baby’s All Right on 12/18
This could be the first and last time you read about NYC band Thirdstory on the pages of The Deli. It’s not like we have anything against the talented soul-folk band, rather, it’s that too many people are beginning to jam with their catchy, rugged sound. The latest of their newer legion of fans appears to be none other than critically-acclaimed emcee Pusha T. On the highlight of the trio’s recently released Searching EP, "G Train," they pair up with Pusha to deliver a hard-hitting track that embodies the gritty, resilent nature of New York and New Yorkers. Though T is from Virginia, he feels right at home on a song about the underside of The Big Apple. Thirdstory are on a world tour right now, but you can catch them back at home on 12/18 at Baby’s All Right. — Henry Solotaroff-Webber

Kodacrome releases track “Oh, You Two” + plays Rough Trade on 12/3
With their latest track "Oh, You Two", Brooklyn’s synth pop duo Kodacrome remains faithful to their name with a cinematic track that would play perfectly as a soundtrack of a noir movie. For it, they have crafted a cavernous, minimalistic soundscape bursting with sonically satisfying textures, a dreamy, steady pulse that almost beats along with our heart, while Elissa P.’s melodic, moody vocals surface only sporadically with somber strokes. You can experience Kodacrome live at Rough Trade on December 3rd. -Ashley Muniz
Goldenchild bring their cosmic country to BK Bazaar on 11.30
In 2015, the duo of Wiley Gaby & Jeffrey Doker, Goldenchild, released their debut LP ’Bridges’, a country-pop record with a peculiar cosmic aura. The album’s title track perfectly exemplifies this quality: a reverb-drenched guitar swells in, introducing a surreal atmosphere; soon enough, more traditional instruments join it, including also an airy string section. The main vocals and harmonies bring a worldly element to the track, but their evocative tone plays into the mysterious mood set by that initial, droney effect. Take a listen to the below and/or see the band live at Brooklyn Bazaar on November 30th with The Hollows. -Ashley Muniz
Show Me the Body announce multi-venue fall residency in NYC
In the summer of 2016, Show Me the Body released their debut album “Body War,” an electric banjo-driven sonic storm, blending post-hardcore, industrial, hip hop and math rock. That’s the record most NYC kids involved in the vital, seminal, local DIY scene – and in all likelihood, most rock critics too – will remember years from now.
The NYC born and bred trio just announced a New York show residency that will take place in five different venues across the city. This residency is presented as an extension of the spirit of their recent short film called "Ammunition", for which the band’s goal was to find and tell stories as compelling, disturbing and uplifting as they found in their own backyard of New York City. Dates can be found here, check out the video for album opener ‘Body War’ below. – photo by Dylan Johnson
Synth-Soul from Brooklyn: WASHA
WASHA is the name of Dwight Pendleton’s project, a one man, DIY synthpop act that interestingly blends (a very white version of) soul vocals with noisy backing tracks flirting with industrial and goth. WASHA is currently working on new music, but we really dig this song, entitled ‘Night / Day’ from his 2015 EP ‘The Bright, Part II.’
EZTV unveils new video for ‘Reason to Run,’ tours & plays Bowery on 12.07
Here’s something our many readers into dreamy music enjoy: EZTV’s new video for single ‘Reason to Run.’ The camera follows a cowboy lonesomely exploring New York City – is he a Trump voter? That’s not what the video is about (of course he is!), rather, it’s about looking at the city with new eyes. After touring for most of the fall (in Europe too!) the band is currently taking a deserved two week break before embarking on the final leg of their tour, which will culminate in a performance at the Bowery Ballroom on 12.07.
Buzz Alert: GYMSHORTS offer classic slacker punk vibes on latest release “Wet Willy”
With tracks like "Burrito" and "Browned Out," it’s clear that slacker punks, GYMSHORTS, are not taking themselves all that seriously–but that’s all part of the band’s charm. With mellowed punk riffs, surf rock beats, riotous vocals, and a cheeky sense of humor, the group is kind of hard to not immediately fall in love with. Check out "BURRITO" off the band’s latest release, Wet Willy, streaming below.-Olivia Sisinni
