If you understand music from a technical and creative angle, Brooklyn/Long Island duo Bangladeafy will, in all likelihood, blow your mind. We praised them enough already in this very blog blog (they placed 2nd in our Best of NYC 2017 Yearly Poll for emerging artists, and their 2016 album ‘Narcopaloma’ was our NYC Record of the Month in September of 2016).

If you don’t know them yet, enjoy this little example of their instrumental prowess, and if you are into pedals, don’t miss this piece on Delicious Audio.

From the digital submissions: Humble Digs releases feel-good folk EP “A Love Song”

Posted on:

Amherst-based Humble Digs describe themselves as “a non-stop feel-good machine.” This is definitely true for their EP A Love Song, where they marry folk rock with psychedelic undertones. The band is unapologetically easy-listening, crafting songs with soft vocals and often jazzy instrumentals (especially in songs like “Better Game,” which has a substantial intro before any vocals come in). After a brief stay at Disc Jam Music Festival in Stephentown, NY, they will be returning to New England to play at the Radio Bean in VT on July 22nd.-Lily Milman

Baltimore alt-dance rockers The Milestones drop a couple demo tracks

Posted on:

Those talented rockers from Baltimore are back with a couple demo tracks in advance of an unannounced EP. The Milestones released "City of Soul" and "Have It All," working to hone the in-studio sound and tame the oft-wild and varied live versions. It’s definitely working: the quartet’s signature is to shift abruptly yet seamlessly from spacey, soothing melodies into hard licks that get audiences everywhere dancing. Both songs are richly layered with well-produced vocals, energetic drumming, and consistently dynamic guitar riffs, mind-blowing when taken holistically for the variety. Get excited for that EP to come out in the hopefully near future and catch them headlining at the 8×10 on 7/1, $12, with Luna June, Pocket Bells, The Fun Boys, and Far Future. -Jonathan Goodwin

Buzz Alert: Deem Spencer goes from Don Pedro to Friday show at The Knit (06.09)

Posted on:

Queens rapper Deem Spencer conveys a vibe both rare and compelling. Though the beats sometimes feel under-produced, his approach feels honest and similarly candid. Deem doesn’t rap so much as tell it how it is. He’s melodic and raw; in the single “soap” from his sunflower EP, he croons “If I cared about some money I’d be in college wasting it. Hate itself a sin and I hate sinnin.” It is juxtapositions like this that crack open truths only discernible through poetry. Deem Spencer is the freshest laureate. We first blogged about Deem in October 2016, promoting an upcoming show at dive bar Don Pedro. In just over six months, the man worked his way to playing at The Knit on a Northside Fest Friday night, which rightfully earns him a Deli NYC "Buzz Alert!" – BrokeMc

Q&A with The City and Horses, live at the Gateway on 07.19

Posted on:

Brooklyn indie-pop band The City and Horses makes music that’s both sensitive and urgent. Their records sound like a proverbial melting pot of influences, ranging from ’60s Britpop and disco to contemporary alt-rock. On "Shades," the opening track from their newest album, Ruins, verses comprised of ethereal, swelling synthesizers seamlessly merge into romping, major-key disco-esque choruses. On "Drag" (streaming below) the influence of Modest Mouse and Silver Jews can be heard in the song’s aura of twangy melancholy. The Deli recently spoke with lead songwriter Marc Cantone about the new album. You can catch TCAH on July 19th at the Gateway in Brooklyn. Listen to "Shades" here, and check out the Q&A they won thanks to The Music Building‘s Expose Yourself campaign, by following the link below! – Ethan Ames

Poppies have managed to gain a generous following with their introspective, melodic sound and singer May’s childlike, delicate vocals. On June 9th, they will be joined by BRNDA, Dougie Poole and Vas Deferens, for an exciting release party at The Glove, hosted by comedienne Gina Ginsberg. London Plane bring their dark indie-pop to Berlin on 6.17

Posted on:

In their debut EP, "Room City," (released in January), five-piece Brooklyn band London Plane manages to mix a variety of styles, blending ’80s alt-pop with the dreamy, synth driven atmospheres popular in today’s indie-pop. The ghost of Blondie and Grace Jones can almost be heard in single "Parting Days", where the slightly dark arrangement complements the sophisticated and warm vocals of lead singer, CiCi James. London Plane will be performing on June 17th, at Berlin NYC, alongside fellow local artists Controller and Tyger. – Tafari Lemma

Creative and technically superb teaser tracks on new Drewsif Stalin album

Posted on:

Drewsif Stalin‘s sophomore album “Anhedonia” sets its tone from the get-go with a spine tingling rage that seems like a pretty good interpretation of what anhedonia—the inability to feel pleasure—might sound like sonically. Behind a downright creepy vocal delivery of line “inching closer and closer” comes a snarling guitar lick which fits beautifully in the pocket of the groove. Just when the groove seems to get a little repetitive, Drewsif Stalin pulls out a new trick from his bag, transitioning first to a more energetic drum beat, then to a vocal section in a new register, and then even to an ambient dreamscape breakdown. In the end what carries both of the teaser tracks is the outstanding musicianship and very well thought out songwriting.

Check out Drewsif Stalin’s “Andhedonia”, dropping tomorrow, June 1st.

Solid tracks from DC producers bobmoekill

Posted on:

Bobmoekill‘s “All Good Things” starts out with a very promising introduction. The harmony builds wonderfully with the drum tracks tastefully added underneath. Gradually, the textures fill out, and at about 1 minute the buildup pays off with the tasteful drums turning into a deep groove.

The opening title track is a pretty good barometer of the bobmoekill style, which seems to alternate between R&B, pop electronica, ambient electronic.  Although sometimes the tracks felt a little derivative (boo synth horns), this is a great first release, and there is every indication that there are more good things to come from the duo.

Public Access T.V. head out on European tour

Posted on:

In their debut LP ‘Never Enough,’ NYC’s Public Access TV showcases the ability to re-elaborate several decades of rock’n’roll and pop music into something new and exciting. John Eatherly’s vocals perfectly adapt to each different atmosphere alternating between raucous (in garagey ‘Patty Peru – streaming) and bouncy (in ’80s influenced ‘End of an Era‘). This summer, they are heading back to London to play The Lexington and Hyde Park, stopping by Philly’s Made in America, and finally landing at The Meadows Festival at Citi Field. – Lilly Milman, photo by Jonah Freud
