Wilco “Dawned On Me”
Wilco’s latest video from their album "The Whole Love" for the track "Dawned On Me" is nothing short of amazing. It is the first hand-drawn Popeye cartoon in over 30 years. "The Whole Love" was nominated for two Grammy’s so they may be sited at the award’s show on Feb 12th.
Serengeti “Shazam”
Serengeti has new ep coming out this March called "Kenny Dennis" via Anticon. He recently unveiled the first single from the ep, a track called "Shazam". This is the follow-up to 2011 fantastic release "Friends & Family". Kenny Dennis is a full-blown, slightly twisted, and die-hard Chicago alter-ego of Serengeti. For those who don’t know the back story, Kenny Dennis (Kdz) and Tha Grimm Teachaz were signed to Jive Records in ’93. After a Teachaz performance at the label’s showcase in Philly (other performers included the Fu-Schnickens and Tevin Campbell), Shaq-Fu got brazen and mocked Kenny’s mustache live on-stage.
Ok Go “Needing/Getting”
So, as most of you may have been, I was watching the Super Bowl last night, and all of sudden there were four men in a little Chevy car in primary colored racing suits. I said to myself, "Self, was that Ok Go". I thought of hitting twitter to find out, but before I could I received an email from the PR firm of Ok Go saying "You may have just seen Ok Go during your Super Bowl Party, and you can check out their new video for their track "Needing/Getting" here". So I do check it out and you can too.

From Our Open Blog: David Safran feat. Genevieve Schatz

Two great Chicago musicians, Genevieve Schatz of Company of Thieves and the underrated, Gainsbourg-esque singer/songwriter David Safran, just released a fantastic duet. This is erotic lounge pop at its best – easy listening background music, a triumphant gospel-style chorus and a perfectly schmaltzy orchestra performed by Chicago-based violin virtuoso, Susan Voelz. (Poi Dog Pondering, Broken Social Scene, John Mellencamp, Alejandro Escovedo.) "Woman Astride, Facing Away" is the kind of song that, in a few months, will probably be everywhere.
Justinus Primitive
Justinus Primitive is the king of drone-hop in Chicago and he recently released his 3rd full-length album, Children of the Law of One through I Had An Accident Records. Primitive can flow, but what makes this release truly remarkable is the pulse and drone of Lungfish and La Monte Young. Below is the video for the first single from the album "City Dervish".
Blah Blah Blah New Video
Blah Blah Blah has released a new video for the second single from their latest ep, Thank You Thank You, called "Soon As I Get Home Tonight". The video was directed by Benjamin Fingerhut ("Breaking and Entering") and features a cameo from Chuck Inglish of The Cool Kids.
