With riffs that heat up in short explosive dashes meeting up with that rough-and-tumble backend and those vocals that ache and roar in a passionately committed display, that’s what Sheer Mag does. Tonight, as they prepare for a slate of tour dates, they’re at Second Empire, ready to unleash a tenacious, unrelenting brand of garage rock that rips, wails and stays with you for the long haul. A trio of Toronto-based punk bands are also on the docket, including the hardcore blitz of Mocoso, the garage-punk of Tonkapuma, and VCR, whom released a new EP 3D last week. Austin Latin-punk hybrid Detestados round out a lineup that’ll certainly curb that midweek attitude and gear you toward the week’s end.
