Electro-pop duo Eight Bit Tiger have released a new single and video. "An Education" takes the Eight Bit Tiger’s version of EDM to next level, and despite relocating to Sweden last year you can still hear their Chicago roots.
Video Debut: Hemmingbirds “Toxic Noise”
The Deli Chicago is proud to be hosting the local debut of the new video from Hemmingbirds. "Toxic Noise" comes from the band’s latest album The Vines of Age. The video was directed by Kevin Larson and was filmed Maine West High School in Des Plaines.
You can catch Hemmingbirds with Brooklyn’s Les Racquet at The Whistler on April 8th.
Wild Belle “Happy Home”
Wild Belle’s debut album, Isles, was released last week by Columbia Records. Here is their latest video, "Happy Home".
duck. “Basement Family”
We were recently sent a track by former "Band of the Month" duck. The band used their studio time they won from the poll to record "Basement Tapes" at Catfish Studio with Wes Kosakowski.
Eleventh Dream Day “New Moodio”
Eleventh Dream Day have announced the release of their "new" album, New Moodio, via Comedy Minus One on May 14th. The album is a "lost album" of sorts and a parallel release to the band’s 1993 album El Moodio. The album was recorded in 1991, but never released. You can read the detail on the Comedy Minus One blog.
La Kaza and Divino Nino @ Empty Bottle
Two bands with a history and shared members are performing this Sunday, March 24th, at Empty Bottle.
Divino Nino is Camilo Medina (vox/guitar/percussion), Javier Forero (vox/bass), and Guillermo Rodriguez (vox/guitars). Camilo and Guillermo were formerly in a band called Continental Breakfast. They just released their debut album Pool Jealousy.
La Kaza is a project consisting of members of Ornery Little Darlings and Divino Nino, and their debut effort comes out this April. Somewhat fitting for Chicago these days, the band’s name is a play on the local street gang La Raza, and they claim that they have built a home base in the same abandoned auto garage that previously was the main cocaine stock house for the gang.
Below is the first single, "Carmelita y Rosalita", from La Kaza
Steph Yeager “Campfire Sessions”
Chicago native and constant traveler, Steph Yeager has released her debut album Campfire Sessions. Steph calls her her sound "Root Music", and in a way it does break down both song and life to its roots. Campfire Sessions is a collection of songs that she has written and perfected over several years, and Steph finally had the opportunity to compile and record. The album was recorded at 7 Sided Studios A & B in West Chicago, IL and Villa Park, IL by Chris Shern and Justin Birchard. Shern and Birchard also contributed various elements to the album.
Aptly titled, Campfire Sessions will make you long for Western Skies at sunset, campfires with old friends, and the ability to find yourself in a the smallest and most inviting corners of the country.
Michelle Cross & Joe Frawley
Dolls Come To Life is one of the most beautiful albums I’ve heard in a long time. Minnesota sound college artist Joe Frawley has been constructing amazingly complex pieces and detailed songs for several years, and has found a match and perhaps a muse in Chicago’s Michelle Cross.
Frawley’s approach to organic piano composition and textured sampling blends perfectly with Michelle Cross and her heavenly tones. Dolls Comes To Life is dark, playful, haunting, and beautiful.
Impulsive Hearts
Impulsive Hearts is fronted by Danielle Sines and have released two beautiful tracks so far this year. My favorite is their track "Young" which seems to take their sound in a slightly more psych-pop direction.
Adia & The 7 Eyes
Recent winners of Reggie’s Battle of the Bands, Adia & The 7 Eyes have only been playing live for three months. The band spent most 2012 composing and practicing a new set of songs, and the results have been very well received. Adia has a Master of Music degree is violin performance from DePaul, and has transformed that into the somewhat rare rock violinist title. The band’s overall sound is a combination of rock, soul, and funk.
You can catch Adia & The 7 Eyes at Martyrs’ on March 20th.
Wally Dogger @ Beat Kitchen
The local trio Wally Dogger is the pinnacle of garage rock and they have a new ep called Chose Your Own Adventure. Wally Dodger formed way back in 2005, and have cornered the market on playful power pop with an occasionally vulgar edge.
You can catch Wally Dogger at Beat Kitchen on March 21st with Quiet Company and The Webstirs.
Katie Got Bandz & King L “Pop Out”
Two of Chicago’s finest have teamed up on a new track and video called "Pop Out". King Louie and Katie Got Bandz trade bars and nearly end up behind them.
