Appleby “Lady Sunshine”

Appleby has released the first single, “Lady Sunshine”, from his forthcoming EP, "+ Happiness”, which will be released on July 20th via Haight Brand. The song is a beautiful pop mediation on the happiness that a sunny day can bring. According to Appleby, "Lady Sunshine" "is perfect for moments when the sun is shining and you’re outside enjoying the open air with your loved ones. It’s also fitting for that feeling of first time butterflies”.

Appleby has also released a curated playlist to help you feel the sunshine.

Burbank “always”

Young Beat Maker Burbank (aka Daniel Burbank) released a new EP, “always”, today (6/1). Burbank’s beats are heavily jazz influenced, downtempo, and LoFi. He is involved with The Cozy Collective, Most Qualified Collective, and Chapel Hill’s Grape Records. "always" is strikingly beautiful album filled with chopped-up horns, heavy but relaxed beats, and an array found sounds.

Jess Robbins @ Martyrs (6/2)

Jess Robbins has released the first two singles, “No Shore In Sight” and “Common Dark”, from her forthcoming LP, Lightfield. The album features contributions from several local musicians including Will Phalen (guitars, banjo, and pedal steel) who also recorded, mixed, and co-produced the album.

New Album from TV Pow

TV Pow is the experimental electronic trio of Todd Carter, Brent Gutzeit, and Michael Hartman. The has been creating soundscapes on laptops, samplers, self-invented instruments, synths, and more for the last two decades. Last week they released a new LP called Watch Like Nobody’s Dancing via Kuro Neko Music.

The album, their first since 2016, is an exploration in drone, ambient, field recordings, and so much more.

Cinchel @ High Concept Labs (6/21)

Ambient/Drone artist Cinchel has two album dropping this summer. The first is called Sustain/Sustain, out June 8th, and is a collections of tracks recorded over the last two years.

The second release, In Chaos, will be released on July 1st, and features 10 tracks that have moments that are beautifully, chilling, dark, and peaceful.

As with most of Cinchel’s music both albums were created using guitar, effects, and a laptop. Both album’s will be available on cassette, in addition to digital, in a limited quantity of 50.

Cinchel will be performing at High Concept Labs as part of Make Music Chicago on June 21st with Picosa and Sid Yiddish & His Candy Store Henchmen.

Matt Piet “City In A Garden”

Matt Piet is an Pianist that thrives on improvisation. His new album, City In A Garden, is a series of improvisations recorded with an array of talented musicians during “jam sessions” at Constellation’s Sound of the City workshop. Each piece is titled by the names the musicians Piet is performing with at the time of the recording. The album as a whole serves a a snapshot of the thriving local jazz and musical improvisation scene.

Jared Rabin @ SPACE (6/8)

Jared Rabin is back with a EP called “Wondering About The Weather”. This is the follow-up to his acclaimed 2015 debut LP, Something Left To Say. Rabin has a warm and slightly rock-tinged take on Americana.

“Wondering About The Weather” was released on May 11th and will be celebrated on June 8th at SPACE in Evanston with Ten Patrick.

Crime Nite

Crime Nite (F.K.A Time Machine Death Squad) is the Synth-Pop duo of Judah Dylan and Andy Mars. They have been together and working on their debut album, Can’t Kill The Beat, since 2014. The album is available now on most streaming platforms and will be officially released on June 4th.

Bonzo Terks

Experimental Free Jazz group Bonzo Terks are prepping to release a new cassette called We Bought A Boat. This is the follow-up to their 2014 LP, People You Should Know Vol. 1, and is their fourth studio album. The first track on the album is call “Blow My Job” and can be streamed below.

Bonzo Turks will be celebrating the release of their new tape on June 9th at aliveOne (2683 N Halsted St)with Hanging Hearts.

Mute Duo

Mute Duo released a new cassette/digital single earlier this month, via Chicago’s Lurker Bias label, called Axially Grasp. Mute Duo is the ambient and experimental sounds of Skyler Rowe (percussion) and Sam Wagster (pedal steel).

This is the duo’s first released since their self-titled debut LP which was released back in October 2017.

Skyler Rowe also released a solo cassette last month called Beat Work: Language of Battery on American Damage.
