Sev Seveer Drops Shelfie Baps II

Beat Maker Sev Seveer has dropped his latest project, Shelfie Baps II, via Beats of All Nations. Below is the crazy winter-themed video for the track “Fah”.

This is Sev’s second LP and first since 2016. He is joined by Booda Blaou and Waterr on a track called “Daily Bread”, and it really leaves wondering what other talented Chicago emcees could do with these eclectic beats. However, these beats are enjoyable and exciting all on their own.

Bur “Sample Quincy”

Bur recently released their latest album, Sample Quincy, via the local label Dark Circles Records. This is the innovative rock sounds of Jeremy Kush (vocals/guitar) and Juan Jauregui (bass) along with Colin Burns (guitar), Anthony Vaccaro (drums) of Gal Gun.

Sonically, Bur brings a fierce and noisy guitar sound with catchy melodies and shoegaze undertone.

Great Deceivers have released the first single, “Checked Out Forever”, from their forthcoming LP, In Spirit. This is the band’s follow-up to 2017’s Some, and it will be officially released on January 19th.

This is the throwback Indie Rock sounds of Seth Engel (Drums), Russell Harrison (Vocals/Guitar), Ben Rudolph (Bass/Vocals), and Max Green (Guitar/Vocals).

Noiseferatu

Noiseferatu is the project of bedroom pop producer A.J. Hubbard. He released his debut album, You Must Get Discouraged!, on New Year’s Eve.

The album is filled with sadness, struggle, lo-fi beauty, and several surprising samples. On “What’s So Heavy?” Hubbard samples and alters “Quiet Storm” by Smokey Robinson. It adds an electronic element to what is primarily an acoustic album.

Flying Potion

Flying Potion released their self-titled debut album on January 1st. This is the Psych Rock band that has been together since 2015 and is fronted by the pedal steel playing Jam Cornelius. He is joined by Ross Tasch (bass), Joel Cornelius (drums), and Drew Suarez (guitar).

The album blends elements of Psych Rock with touch of Jam Band and the always present twang the pedal steel brings to the mix.

Smashed Plastic Pressing Grand Opening February 2nd

Smashed Plastic is a new vinyl pressing plant located at 4200 W. Diversey, and run by Stephen Polutnik, John Lombardo, and Andy Weber. They are kicking off their business in style with a Grand Opening event on February 2nd that will feature a diverse line-up that includes Bleach Party, Diagonal, Lawerence Peters Outfit and Serengeti.

Smashed will be the first vinyl pressing plant in Chicago in nearly 40 years, and hope to create a path for Chicago band’s, and artist’s from around the country, to get their music out in the beloved vinyl format. The plant will be utilizing a fairly new type of technology for making this vintage format, the Steamless WarmTone vinyl press. You can read more about the technique and Smashed Plastic here.
