Spaceship Aloha Shielding Your Mind From the Outdoors at JB’s Jan. 8

A non-stop onslaught of exotic island-flavored electronics, beats, and percussion are certain to lively up almost any situation. While music may not technically transport your body, it will temporarily shield your mind from the outdoors, rousing you to your feet in the process. The captain steering this dance-centric vessel, otherwise known as Spaceship Aloha, is Christopher Sean Powell (Man Man). Once your onboard, it may be difficult to pry yourself away from the energy-loaded omnipresent beats, with their light, effervescent grooves that keep spinning out anew. Tonight, a fellow member of the Data Garden collective, Telequanta, the experimental EDM moniker of J. Termini, opens the dance-generating spectacle. The eclectically smooth-flowing, humorously-flared work of Tim Fite connects the situation on this evening. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 8pm, $10, 21+ – Michael Colavita
