Schoolly D Chillin’ at Tin Angel Sept. 4

Veteran rapper Schoolly D is bringin’ his versatile and seasoned flow to the intimate Tin Angel tonight. Schoolly is a native of Philly and has been name dropped as an influence by everyone from Ice-T to MC Chris and Chuck D. You might know Schoolly best these days by his occasional involvement in Aqua Teen Hunger Force providing narration and one of the better theme songs of current television shows. While his style has been noted as pre-gangster rap containing urban violence and dirty realism, Schoolly now has run the gambit of hip hop through eight studio albums over 15 years and has recently released his newest album and first in over a decade, International Supersport. On the topic of supersports, Schoolly also claims to have invented snowboarding in Philly. This venue is really tiny for such a legend, so make your way to the Tin Angel tonight to get your fill of some Funk N’ Pussy, probably more of the former than the latter. But I’m guessing that there will be plenty of the latter skankin’ up the streets of Old City. Good luck. Tin Angel, 20 S. 2nd St., 8pm, $12, 21+ – Adam G.
