He is involved with The Cozy Collective, Most Qualified Collective, and Chapel Hill’s Grape Records. "always" is strikingly beautiful album filled with chopped-up horns, heavy but relaxed beats, and an array found sounds.

Amy León brings her individual poetic style to Baby’s All Right 06.05

Posted on:

NYC singer Amy León offers a unique and powerful blend of spoken word and soul, through a delivery that fuses singing and poetry. She tackles social inequality and celebrates blackness in her most poignant track, “Burning in Birmingham,” which starts as a soul ballad and turns to spoken word: “Didn’t I die for them? / Didn’t we do this already? / Who let Jim back in the White House?” Her voice is soothing, her lyrics stop-you-in-your-tracks striking, and her music builds to a point where it sounds as if it might burst. The way she reaches a chaotic, bustling climax in both “Burning in Birmingham” and “Child of the Sun” seems to express some sort of catharsis for León, a form of healing through art. Don’t miss the chance to see her unique style on June 5th at Baby’s All Right. -Lily Crandall

New Track: “Last I Heard” – Shinobi

Posted on:

“Last I Heard” is the standout track off Shinobi‘s new EP The World Is Mine. A mixture of riff and rhythm serve as the single’s fire-starter. Lyrically, the song appears directed at someone specific that fell off a personal grid or out of a social circle. Its snarly vocals capture a heady aggression, as electric guitars shred through its center with cantankerous fury. Lost connections can still sting.

Cherry Blaster – New Tune “Demo Reel” Soaked in Synth!

Posted on:

Cherry Blaster rolls on with a new tune just released titled “Demo Reel”. The track opens with deep synth and a carnival-like keyboard floating over top. There are some deeper thoughts in the lyrics though as she explains:

I’ve never been particularly good at taking initiative in social situations, and this has often allowed me to retreat behind walls of self-protection. Demo Reel paints a picture of what I initially feel from this vantage point”.
