Posted on:

Got plans this weekend? Cancel them, because you belong at Mercy Lounge this Saturday night. This night consists of a double dose of Deli favorites: tribal noise hipsters Chalaxy are celebrating the release of their moody psychedelic single "Dizzy" and are premiering a newly revamped live set. Joining the night are Nashville standbys Blackfoot Gypsies, who have their own big excitements from a recent record deal with Plowboy Records and a new video for "Under my Skin" to boot (check it out below.) We’re stoked to see these two merry bands of hustlers in one night, and are equally excited to catch Matt Owen & Eclectic Tuba and Levi Ray for the first time. Saturday’s show kicks off at 9pm and will only set you back $5. -Terra James-Jura

Here’s mewithoutYou‘s second offering from their forthcoming album Pale Horses, entitled "D – Minor." On their latest, which premiered over at NPR, you find a more subdued outfit, in comparison to the group’s previous lead single "Red Cow"; however, the band’s usual intesity and insightful storytelling still remains prevalent throughout the track. Pale Horses will be officially available on June 16 via Run For Cover Records.

NYC Bluesman Johnny Azari returns with new double LP

Posted on:

A little over a year after releasing his album Road-Dog’s Teeth, New Orleans and Brooklyn based bluesman Johnny Azari returns with the double LP ‘God Damn Blues (The Newest Testament).’ As heard on the slide guitar-based, dusty single “God Damn Blues” (video streaming below), the Shiraz-born singer/multi-instrumentalist impressively conveys real-life hurt through his devilishly charming voice, effectively creating a portrait of a luckless man just trying to survive. It’s a seemingly classic blues story that Azari tells with obvious charisma and artful songwriting. – Zach Weg

Slow Animal Proves to Be Not So Harmless at A House Named Virtue May 28

Posted on:

Simply because an animal appears harmless doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t keep an eye out as it roams in the periphery. The duo of Slow Animal proves it by executing power-pop that shakes the status quo with emotive crashing waves of guitar and percussion smacking down in a reality-oriented awakening technique, establishing a setting for those personal contemplative lyrics to roam. After a recent run of dates with Hop Along, the trio of Thin Lips has returned home, and its latest EP Divorce Year finds Chrissy Tashijan delivering strong-willed, heartfelt vocals, reinforced by consistently catchy pop-punk instrumentation that steadily rolls clean, while hinting at a raw base. Former Deli Philly Featured Artist(s) Poll Winners Twiin continue to impress with their garage-punk aesthetic and their latest single “Anxiety.” The lineup at A House Named Virtue also includes emotive Baltimore rockers Phantom Lanterns, whom instrumentally embrace a well-oiled math-rock precision and the psych-pop combo of Toronto’s Blonde Elvis. WIN WIN’s Q&A about gear and the creative process

Posted on:

One may say that producers are like the chefs of the creative process (the studio being their kitchen), so it’s hard to conceive how a band like NYC’s WIN WIN – comprised of three electronic producers – can actually function without major and recurrent conflicts of ego. The secret is probably – as with most successful musical project involving more than one person – in the trust and bond built during a collaboration that’s now more than a decade long. WIN WIN’s music is as edgy as you would expect, which gives us the opportunity for a very interesting Q&A about gear and the creative process – you can read it in our sister blog about gear and recording Delicious Audio – link below. Check out the band’s latest single ‘Air" streaming below.

The Drafts

Posted on:

The Drafts released their debut LP, South of Somewhere Else, last week. The four-piece band, Ben Goldman, Mike Torpy, Jacob Driscoll, and Tommy Borders, have a echoing basement indie rock sound that is almost as compelling as their songwriting style. With songs called both "Half-Asleep" and "Half-Awake", and "Cure to Nausea" and "Cure to Nostalgia", you can see the band enjoys language as well as sonic exploration.

Posted on:

Ecstatic Vision have taken their previously demoed track "Astral Plane," and properly gave the jam the attention that it called for in the studio. The album is scheduled to drop on June 30 via Relapse Records, and Ecstatic Vision will be hosting a co-release celebration with Creepoid on Friday, June 26 at Johnny Brenda’s.

Pet Sun -Never Quit

Posted on:

These garage fellas from Hamilton have dropped the first tune from their upcoming album in video form! Pet Sun is all about the fuzz. Fuzzy guitars and now they’re eating fuzzy pudding. This video for "Never Quit" was directed by Billy Moon. It has some wild green screen action, trippy effects, the aforementioned fuzzy pudding, a band-eating witch and of course a badass headbanger of a song. This tune absolutely forces to move your head with the simple yet convincing guitar riffs. Their new record is due for release later this year and it’s going to bring the house down. For now you can download their EP "Feel Like I’m Going Away" but do yourself a favor and see them live on Thursday May 28 at This Ain’t Hollywood. They’re taking off down to the States after that and they may never come back. I hear the witch is still after them…-Kris "Big City"Gies

“Never apologize for being who you are” — The DIY ethos of Lawrence Lindell

Posted on:

An autodidact by way of KRS-One with a punk spirit blessed by Bane and the DIY patron saint Beats Antique, Lawrence Lindell is nothing short of a multi-genre musician. And with glitched out nods to Aphex Twin and Squarepusher, Lindell’s penchant for percussion takes IDM to the ground-level, serving up sounds of indiscriminate densities on a bed of beats.

Lindell began his electronic trek in 2009, taking on different identities (most recently as LAw) before settling down with himself and the home-grown label Noise Met Sound in 2013. With it, Lindell joined up with like-minded musicians like ambient noise artist Gypsy Eyes and experimental chamber group Inner Ecstasy. From empty backyard pools to the dA Center and the LA Fort, Lindell has been unapologetic in his art and vision. And slowly but surely, people are beginning to notice.

"The philosophy I stick with is "Never apologize for being who you are." Do things your own way and forget about what everyone else thinks or has to say about it. DIY is the basis of everything we do. If we can’t find someone to distribute for us or book us for shows, we do it ourselves."

Lawrence Lindell recently released two albums, Magic Megaphone and Cinema of Soul, which will be out as a two-disk set in June. Listen to "Ego Death" below, and stay tuned for more news on live shows. – Ryan Mo

Dead Stars announce sophomore LP with “Calm Punk” single + play 5 NYC shows in 10 days

Posted on:

With their new single "Calm Punk" (streaming), from upcoming sophomore LP, Brooklyn’s Dead Stars convincingly rides the nu-grunge wave that’s been sweeping Brooklyn in the past two years. Against what’s considered as "booking common sense," the band is going to push the new release through a series of local shows very close to each other (five in ten days!?!). But hey, rock’n’roll hates common sense, so we invite you to support the guys, who have a great live show and shared last year’s 4Knots stage with Dinosaur Jr., Mac DeMarco and Speedy Ortiz among others. New Synthpop from Brooklyn: Scam Avenue unveils video for “Mercury” + plays Cameo on 06.20

Posted on:

Scam Avenue is a very new synth pop trio out of Brooklyn. They just released their debut single/video entitled "Mercury" (streaming) and announced their debut EP, to be released on June 23rd. From the single, the band’s approach to the genre seems rather minimalistic, but not immune from the occasional tension building through noisier sections. However, Devery Doleman and Tara Chacón’s clean melodies always return things to a chilled and controlled sonic place. Kudos to band member Lawrence Kim for directing this stylish video. The band will be playing a free show at Passenger Bar on June 3rd, while the release party is scheduled for 06.20 at Cameo Gallery.
