Insert Bandname Here at DDG July2

Posted on:

North Philly three-piece Bandname is summer personified. Energized percussion with a side of garage rock charm, local favorites keep it DIY with tracks like the endearing “Excitable Boy” with its quasi-punk hooks and riffs. With an ironically iconic band name, Bandname’s stage presence is pure fun. Reminiscent of Tsunami Bomb, this dynamic trio is bound to please. Having opened for equally lo-fi acts like the lovely Vivian Girls, Bandname channels their inner Pavement for “Land War” while managing to mellow out for “Smile”. Add in laid back ballads by Philly/New York outfit Eskimeaux, and you’ve got a deadly concoction equivalent to a musical speedball. Danger Danger Gallery, 5013 Baltimore Ave., 9pm, $5 – $10 donation, All Ages – Dianca Potts

Radio Eris Host Multimedia Event at Tiberino Museum July 2

Posted on:

Radio Eris, Northern Liberties, and Da Comrade! are all no strangers to integrating multimedia, theatrics, art, and fan interaction into their sets. So when all three collide all of the above together for one truly madcap show within the confines of the suitably surreal courtyard of the Ellen Powell Tiberino Museum, they’ll be doing it within their element. This bold show will also feature video screenings from Jon F. Allen and others, live art creations to the beat of Blueberry Crush, a performance by Iris Senseless, body painting and so much more. Combine it with the ghost punk barrage of Northern Liberties, the psychedelic war paint tinged thrash of Da Comrade!, and the theatrical space rock of Radio Eris – art and music are destined to come together in ways that you haven’t seen before! Hosannas’ Last Performance as a Quartet FRIDAY JULY 2 at The Artistery

Posted on:

Friday night’s show at The Artistery marks the last performance of Hosannas as Portland loves and knows it. The band is not technically breaking up, but keyboardist Cristof Hendrickson and percussionist Lane Barrington have decided to leave the group to pursue other endeavors (Best of luck, boys!).

Although the brothers Brandon and Richard Laws will continue to play under the same moniker as a two-piece, Brandon made it clear that the music will change drastically in the future, and they will not be playing the same songs they played as a foursome.

Multi-Chamber American Future at Rontoms from hosannas portland on Vimeo.

So this, my friends, will be the last time an audience’s ears will be graced with the experimental pop masterpieces that comprise the quartet’s debut, Then & Now & Then.

Show starts at 8 p.m. $6. All ages, so bring the kiddies!

The Rex Complex is a power-house duo who got their start in Boston and Camberville playing a much loved weekly residency at Precinct. Self-described as roots-ruckus, The Rex Complex is one of the highest energy bands to come out of the city. They use a world of instruments from all over the world, from the gyil to the accordion. They will be supported by special guests Railbird and The Slowest Runner in all the World.

NYC artists on the rise: Mammal of Paradise

Posted on:

Our Phila-Deli editor just plugged these guys to us ("us" as in the NYC Deli editors, which is actually one person who likes to pretend to be two or three) and… we dig! Of course (as you may realize) this Mammal of Paradise might be even better appreciated in a "totally stoned" frame of mind, but even in our current "totally sober with a slight headache" situation they sound pretty friggin’ interesting – are they the new Spiritualized? The video, then, is appropriate – what’s the guy doing? A new drug using butterfly wings?? Hey, she is contaminating the water with it!!! It’s going to be a wild world!

Fang Island tour with The Flaming Lips + release Video

Posted on:

The first time I heard the song "Daisy" by Fang Island, after 15 seconds I though – gee, these guys sound totally like Animal Collective, c’mon! Then something happened, the song morphed into some kind of grandiose, super fast indie version of the Queen’s "Flash Gordon" soundtrack – that’s when I got confused – and amused. These guys have the ability to mix the coolest musical influences with the cheesiest ones, no wonder they ended up catching The Flaming Lips’ attention – hipster NYC bands are normally scared of cheese, but hey, that’s always an interesting ingredient, isn’t it?
Fang Island will surely have an exciting summer touring not only with Wayne Coyne’s Lips, but also with Stone Temple Pilots (this seems like a less than ideal pairing).

Admiral Radley begins Cali tour with free show at Hammer Museum July 8

Posted on:

Socal and Norcal unite as Admiral Radley—a symbiosis of members of Modesto’s Grandaddy and L.A.’s Earlimart. Mounting a tour through Central California’s Podunk truck stops, the band kicks it off with a free concert at the Hammer Museum in West L.A. on July 8, with sprightly locals Happy Hollows. Central Cali is a place of simultaneous desolation and abundance—in its desert and farmland, in its flatlands and its mountains. Some of the best crowds to play are in the Central Valley, and bands often build a faithful listening base there because—well, it’s the coolest thing to do there. Admiral Radley will undoubtedly be the talk of these small towns and midsize cities for the next month. The Deli wishes them a bountiful tour, as it’s a noble journey upon which they embark.
